yeah WTF guys...how did this go from B5 hair loss to debate about IS.

You can chat about that shit in PM but it doesn't help with our hair loss.

On a more useful note, I have to say my hair really is growing back somewhat. I looked at pictures I took over a year ago and my hairline has improved. Maybe I will post some pics another time.

This is just through minoxidil and nizoral. In fact I started nizoral first and noticed slight hairs popping up straight away.

Other factors that may help is that I eat healthy (I've been living in Vietnam, the food is fresh, natural and amazing), I meditate and exercise each day (including swimming in the sea).

Yes guys, lets stick to the topic here, we need everyone (especially the most knowledgable ones) to work together and engage in a rational discussion. Lets put the egos aside and not make it personal.

Congratulations. Awesome man, regrowth! Glad using FDA approved medication is helping you. How many days a week do you use the nizoral and minoxidil?

Has anyone found any positive regimens that have helped?

One thing I've noticed by looking through these posts is it seems to be men who are experiencing this hair loss... I'm a girl and have been on B5 for about 2-3 years, and while I had some shedding, it was never thinning my hair until now. In the last month I've dropped down to 1.5 g B5 a day and I'm shedding horrendously. Clumps of hair of my waist-length hair. It's absolutely devastating.

I want to save my hair before I have to chop it off and buy a wig...

A lot of my loss seems to be from the sides/temples/back.

I started taking 1:1 ratio of NAC and B5 about a week ago with no results thus far.

I also read that iron deficiency can cause hair loss, and I'm anemic, so I started taking a woman's multivitamin with 100% daily iron.

In case DHT is a factor, I added in Saw Palmetto.

So right now I'm on:

1.5g B5

1.8g NAC

1.8g Saw Palmetto

Daily Multivitamin

1,000mg MSM

Is this a good plan? I'm so exhausted from this... If I could go back in time I would; I'd rather be the girl with acne than the girl without hair.

Also, I was on a high dosage of B5 for so long and didn't have horrible loss. I'm considering upping my dosage again, in case that's the trigger? But I don't know. Please help :(

For the people getting blood tests, the last test u need to do is vitamin e...Per the below link, if u check the very top half page u can see pantothenic acid causes an effect on liver vitamin e and they both have an antagonistic relationship...Pantothenic acid is impossible to have a permanent effect as the hair loss comes in different doses and time periods for people meaning that something other than the panto itself decides when the hair loss sets it, in my opinion this is the prestatus of the vitamin or mineral getting depleted from the panto...vitamin e is a vitamin found in very low quantities in food and i doubt any1 is getting more than 30% of the daily value so its impossible the stores got rebuild when the panto depletes it...The symptpms of vit e deficiency is hair loss as well and it is involved in lipid metabolism for the sick racist to know, what im offering tho is actual handy possible cures by identifyin the minerals or vitamins getting depleted instead of coming up with theories every few months...Im doing the dirty work and getting u the possible scenarios on a gold plate and i swear im not expecting anything in return except to know that i made peoples lives better, maybe god chose to make me suffer hair loss to be able to gain this knowledge and see if i will share it with others or be selfish when i cure myself...My journey with u have come to an end on public posting, what was said to me last night was something i would never had expected anywhere and it showed the true colours of a very sick man filled with hatred and racism...I have identified the vitamins to be tested, red blood cell folate, b12 ,ceruloplasmin(not a vitamin) and vitamin e...Ur cure will be found within those and i have shared with u all nutrient interactions i know through years of reading studies to cure myself...Goodluck, i will be checking my messages frequently if help is needed...

Okay so I talked to my doctor. My previous blood tests did not include folate, b12 ,ceruloplasmin or vitamin e. However, I could not convince him that I needed these done. So if anyone else had these tests done or has the possibility to get them done, it would be good to hear from you.

If i were i would start a vitamin e supplement (d-alpha tocopherol,NOT dL-alpha tocopherol). Get any brand and i will tell u how much to take...Also get a folic acid supplement and start it after u experiment with the Vit E. first...It wont cost u much...

I have just been reading through this entire thread and I have felt compelled to reply due to experiencing a similar journey to members who have posted in relation to vitamin b5.

Firstly, the comment regarding 'arabs' and the 'United Kingdom' is evidently pathetic and does not even necessitate a response from the recipient to that post.

What an asinine member- I expected more acumen and intelligence from this individual especially considering they have contributed a large proportion of content within this thread. I didn't expect to be subjected to such classless ignorance.

Anyhow, moving swiftly on:

I have delved with Pantothenic Acid usage over the past 2 years and have also experienced symptoms of hair loss.

But cutting a long story short - I noticed a complete reversal and actual growth of hair by using 3 particular supplements. I am more inclined to believe that personally, long term B5 usage had disrupted/caused an effect on my thyroid gland and my adrenals. After much trial and testing using a vast array of supplements, including B12, I noticed a huge dramatic effect when I incorporated:

- Raw Thyroid/Adrenal Cortex/Liver

- Potassium Iodide

- Colostrum

^ Into my supplement regime after a friends recommendation. I noticed dramatic effects after around 3 weeks whereby my hair grew thicker, more full bodied and a complete halt in shredding.

I personally am of the opinion that B5 unfortunately slows or alters the thyroid gland/adrenals. I am not certain of the scientific basis for this as presently it is only my anecdotal experience, but I thought I'd share to be of help to other individuals inflicted by B5 side effects.

The raw glandular (bovine) supplements that I purchased DO contain hormones that assist in facilitating the body's ability to regulate the thyroid/adrenal glands.

Here where I presently reside (within the United Kingdom) - Access to any raw glandular supplements especially thyroid glands are unfortunately regulated due to current legislation on thyroid hormones only being offered via prescriptions. But products containing thyroid glandular can be imported (at present) without any difficulty.

It has been around 7 months since I started this particular supplement regime and I can honestly vehemently state that my hair is in fantastic condition - though I have experienced the odd breakout which is unfortunate as Pantothenic Acid was absolutely fabulous for my skin. I introduced a very low dose Pantothenic Acid supplement during late May, at 100mg per day. The effects on my skin are not as pronounced as it were when I had been administering a 1gram dose this time last year, but due to the loss of hair I had to cease its usage.

I would be interested to hear from anybody who has tried or would be wiling to try these supplements to see if it helps halt their hair loss - as I understand that every persons bio chemistry is unique and supplement benefits can be individual/case dependent.

Thanks for that post hermetic. Are there any tests that can show the potential deficiancies in those three? And from where did you get the supplements you take?

Thanks Elessarx for being a guinea pig again! :)

I'll be leaving the UK again soon, back to Asia where I'm sure I can pick up a glandular supplement from the pharmacy if I need.

Hermetic, can you post your dose of these supplements please.

I have a thorough thyroid check up in 3 weeks after my blood test confirmed my TSH was high, which would make your theory about B5 slowing down the thyroid interesting. I am not sure how the B5 would permamently alter the thyroid as it is not stored in the body

Imo it makes a little sense that maybe b5 could cause problems with the adrenals.

If you google b5+adrenals you can see it is one of the most if not the most important vitamin for the adrenals.

But megadosing might cause them to go into overdrive and then just shut down, i have no idea this is just speculation. If i recall correctly none in this thread had a cortisol test Done.

And the adrenals and thyroid work together so a problem with one of them might lead to a problem with the other.

Well im not a pro at all in this subject, just have to wait and see if the supps will make any difference.

When I spoke to my doctor about cortisol being the issue he dismissed it straight away and said it would of showed up in the renal blood test. I still think it's the adrenals tho sadly not much you can do to help them, I've bought adrenal support before and it made no difference.

I would like to apologise with the delay in responding to some questions that have been placed forth.

In relation to the supplements - i purchased the glandular's and potassium iodide from iherb (who ship to the UK) and the colostrum via amazon.

Dosage: The potassium iodide I only take once per week, every Monday.

Iodine is known to benefit and regulate the thyroid gland, but excessive iodine usage (according to certain research papers) is known to overstimulate the thyroid which can negate the positive effects. I am not entirely sure about this as I have read conflicting information, especially if you factor in the Japanese population, who consume Iodine in the form of fish and seaweed ten times above the RDA.. but that discussion/dispute is a different topic entirely.

The Glandular supplements - this was challenging to find a pure form of glandular's without any additional vitamins added. The majority of the Liver supplements for example, contain B12 in addition to the naturally occurring B12 in the liver, but unfortunately, for me, any form of B12 causes my skin to react and I immediately break out within 24 hours. I am still mystified as to why B12 has this reaction on me.

The adrenal cortex glandular's and the thyroid glandular's are usually in their pure form without any added vitamins but specific manufacturers do add additional nutrients so it is best to read and examine beforehand the product label. I have made a personal choice in avoiding all the Thyroid glandular's that state they are thyroxin free. This basically means that the hormone thyroxin has been removed. I believe this defeats the purpose of a thyroid glandular supplement as thyroxin is the main hormone known to benefit the thyroid gland. The removal could be due to many countries placing regulations on hormones and their supplemental usage. So if possible, try to seek out a thyroid glandular product that has not been processed or tampered with regarding hormone removal. These are the ones that usually don't state 'thyroxin free'.

The brands for the glandular's I am currently using are by Nutri-meds and the Liver glandular is from nutricology. (Iherb have just recently notified me that they will be discontinuing this liver supplement soon) ;(

I take one liver capsule, 1 adrenal cortex capsule and 3 thyroid capsules on an empty stomach, usually first thing in the morning. (these are the dosages stated on the bottles). In America, there are many manufacturers of glandular supplements, so everybody on that part of the world has many options. There was a supplier I have recently come across but unfortunately there website has not stated if they ship to the UK. The supplier is Dr Ron's Glandular's. I may invest and attempt to try their products once my current stack is complete.

Now regarding the colostrum.. There are many brands and each one offers their own level of marketing spin. The first initial brand I purchased (immune tree colostrum) is the same one I have stuck with these last few months.

I also take this colostrum upon rising in the early hours before breakfast. I sometimes take it during the evening too as it helps me sleep. The colostrum I am taking contains naturally occurring lactoferrin which is a supplement that has some anecdotal reports of mediating acne. I take around 2/3 heaped tablespoons a day some days, and other days I reduce the dosage to around 2 tablespoon fulls.

This regime has not been cheap, it has actually proved to be extremely costly. especially due to the shipping charges and the duty charges I have to sometimes pay, which is a pain. But because I am seeing results, I haven't yet had the courage to taper off these supplements. I may do after the one year mark and see how I get on regarding the state of my hair.

Now let me clarify, this worked for me and it worked in halting the shredding of my hair, but also improved the condition of my hair. I did not expect it to have this effect, but it became quite noticeable after around 3 weeks. I am also a very firm believer that everybody is different and everybody's bodies are different and everybody will react to certain herbs/supplements/vitamins differently, so you may or may not experience the same success as I have. But I also believe you will never know until you try, as you have nothing to lose.

Listen to your body, if you feel something is not right after taking these supplements, discontinue its usage, especially if you react in a negative way. Hopefully you wont though. fingers crossed.

I have unfortunately made a huge error. I took all of these supplements together at the same time, so I am unaware specifically as to which particular supplement is actually improving the hair condition, as it could just be one of the supplements, or I could be wrong and it could be due to incorporating them all. Your guess is as good as mine. But due to my anxious nature, I have stuck to this particular regime and for me, it seems to have displayed results.

I still get irritated concerning B5. I responded fantastically to this vitamin, and the state of my skin improved ten fold, but I paid a cost and that was with my hair. It is so unfortunate. The lowest dosage I have found in the UK is by solgar - pantothenic acid 200mg. I bite the tablet in half each time so I am still getting around 100mg a day. I wish I could push myself up to 1g a day again and this completely eliminated acne for me. But I have too much fear. I think I already suffer from issues with low self esteem due to adult acne, I could not handle losing my hair at the same time, as the ounce of esteem I do have would probably dry out.

I sincerely hope that those of you who do try these supplements do experience results, and please do post and keep me updated on your progression. Hair loss in any form can sometimes be very damaging to an individuals self image, and I feel that we all share a common denominator with our trials and tribulations facing the battle against acne, it can become unbearable and uncomprehending having to face a battle with hair loss in the same breath.

Thanks for all the info hermetic. Regarding acne, I have had pretty decent results with green tea. I try to drink 4-5 cups a day. It also has some good reviews here on acne.org ( http://www.acne.org/green-tea-reviews-207/ ). Right now my acne is pretty bad again, but I haven't been drinking it as consistently during the summer as usual. And just to get it straight, the colostrum is not for the hair loss, but for the acne? And yes the double acne/hairloss fight is a real bitch.

I had a cortisol and adrenal check done in my blood test, nothing unusual

And yeah, the double acne/hair loss fight really sucks. Right now it's funny, after months of my skin being perfectly clear and my hair getting worse, my hair is now getting better and I am breaking out with big cysts all over my face.

I am seeing thicker hair and regrowth so I might be cured but I am still shedding a bit

We should organize ourselfs.. Hermetic started taking all three supplements at once... and hasent dared (I dont blame him) change it since it made his hair thicker, shedding stopped and he got regrowth...

So.. if three of us take Raw Thyroid/Adrenal Cortex/Liver

and another three take Potassium Iodide

an another three take Colostrum

for four weeks we will most likley know wich one is the soulutions to our b5 disaster

(ofcourse there is a risk/chance that all three supplements work together or maybe taking two of them is the solution.. so the ultimate test would be groups testing taking all three.. and other groups (three is needed for all combinations) taking two supplements.. BUT I dont think we have enough people..

So what do you guys say? Do we have nine people ready for this?

I originally took Atomidine when I thought my hairless was cured, which is the non-ionized version of Iodide. Helped more then I thought.

Anyone know what happened to Mikelev and his progesterone?

Hair shedding slowly after a few weeks on fin, planning to up the dosage next month.

So it's been a few days here with no activity.. what's up guys?

itsoveroveriknowiknow, you are right we should organize ourselves if we do it. However, it would be nice with some answers from Hermetic first. I hope we will hear from him again. Personally I have a hard time seeing how supplementing with Thyroid tissue can do anything, but I am in no way an expert and pretty much want to believe in anything right now.
