Whether hypo or hyper you still need your iodine. Especially if you eat things like broccoli or kale, which are good for you but need to be in balance with plenty of iodine so they don't jack up your thyroid.
I didn't know vegetables could do this, do you have a link for more info that I could send/paraphrase for me mum?
If it was an allergy you would probably have hives or other characteristic symptoms. I'm guessing the supplement you are taking has 150mcg, not mg. 150 mg is way too high. Look back at the bromide detox we talked about before.
I don't get hives or any of the other classic type II allergic responses when I have citrus. I just get cysts the next day.

Yes but true Iodine allergies are different since it is an element. People who are allergic to Iodine are always extremely sensitive to it and would know immediately.
How could one be allergic to iodine? Wouldn't they just be set up to die? Our bodies fail without iodine so I don't see how you could live very long without it. That would be like being allergic to water...or air. How sad.
I knew someone in high school that was allergic to water. Our municipal water, anyway. And someone allergic to grass.
------
I've decided to try this detox thing, sort of. I just don't feel as sharp as I should. I just had my first cup of salt water. I have kelp flakes that I add to broth and other foods, And I add a piece of kombu when i make broth and soups. I plan to watch my blood pressure though as some people are more sensitive to salt and a few years ago when I was brushing my teeth with baking soda, my blood pressure went up. Unless we can find info on reducing this sensitivity. I know about potassium, but I eat plant foods all day long.
I also have chlorophyll supps and will step up the greens even more.

Glad to know we are in good company! I should be getting my supplements this week.
hey guys, I'm keen to supplement iodine as well as salt load, about to go to the health shop here but just curious,
actually more regarding the salt loading (with sea salt).
How safe is constant intake of that much salt on the stomach? would it cause stomach ulcers? Is it safe to intake that much salt every day for weeks-months?
Also just a physical concern..doesn't salt retain water and therefore one might gain weight?
One more question, will iodine/salt loading affect medications, I'm not too worried about the pill as im not sexually active at the moment but I'm actually taking 25mg of spironolactone about every 2 or so days as it does help I think, but that's also a potassium sparing drug so im a little worried in general regarding potassium etc. dont want a build up :/
I actually read someone supplemented potassium to avoid hair loss or something during detox so im a little confused with everything. at the moment im also taking zinc that has magnesium and might further supplement magnesium that but yeah could someone please help me with my concerns?
more so as from what im aware the salt loading is what helps the 'detox' symptoms of the iodine so knowing me I might be the paranoide about breaking out more that I'll possibly go slow on the iodine and made sure to salt load (not wanting to over do it though not sure of the ratios).
whats the plan for others? how long do you plan to take iodine/salt load?
also curious to know how others are going with it
Salt doesn't cause stomach ulcers. It really isn't very much salt when you do the salt loading. I probably eat more salt than that in any given meal. If you're worried about it being too much, just eat less with your food. I'm not sure about the medication thing, as I've not been on any medications, sorry! The people over at the iodine forums on curezone could probably help you out with that question.
okay cool thanks for that
i tried to find some iodine at the health store but the lady said they can order stuff in but usually dont due to iodine being 'too risky' said im better off going to a nuritionist first but i dont have the money for one and im definitely not dumb, i plan to do this extra slow just on the side type thing, kinda like how people buy multivitamins for the hell of it.
the only thing containing iodine that i could find was something called 'kelp powder' - source of organic iodine and other minerals so i guess thats a start. im also using sea salt.
curious if you know anything on the weight side of things, would salt retain water in the body/make one gain weight?
also, sorry just another question. how long should one do this for? the iodine intake and salt load. is everyday too much to salt load?
for example, if you take iodine and then feel symptoms, then you salt load..do you do that every day or every few days. and even so, could you take iodine one day and to be sure, salt load for 2 days (without the iodine) then do it again until..whenever?
just a bit unsure if you do this for weeks, when i read someone someone said not to salt load for more than a week...yet i also read people had to do this for months before they noticed a change

Iodine hasn't done anything for me so far... No good, no bad. Don't spend your money on it. Just heal your gut. I'm going to a GI doctor next week to convince them to give me a hydrogen/methane breath test. I can't digest fats properly and have a lot of flatulence when I eat starches or high sugar fruits. There's a condition called Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) that is related. I think it has a connection to all my food allergies and acne, though I don't really have acne now other than some non-inflamed. siboinfo.com is a good site to look at. Basically the treatment is to reset your gut bacteria. You take Rifaximin and Neomycin- antibiotics that only work in the digestive system and do not enter the bloodstream- for about two weeks. Some people recommend using probiotics afterwards, and some don't.

Update us as your treatment progresses, please. I'd like to know how it goes. 🙂

As everybody's body is different, I don't see how you can make such a sweeping statement.
Iodine DOES have a positive effect on many people. Just because it didn't work for you dosen't mean it won't work for others!
I have nothing against healing the gut, in fact I will probably order some water keifer on ebay soon. However my problems range far beyond acne. My mother has thyroid disease and I suffer many of the same symptoms. Iodine isn't just for acne. It's a necessary nutrient that we don't get enough of in our modern western diets, period.
I'm trying to say don't go out of your way to buy a high dose iodine supplement unless you've exhausted many other important things first. Unfortunately, I am allergic to fish, so it is hard for me to find a daily iodine source. Obviously I would look to iodine for my own health. I'll still take the supp because it is my only source of iodine. In other people's cases, Iodine sources may be eaten more frequently, but not for everyone, of course. Eating seafood is a much better way to get iodine than through a supp.
Gut health is closely related to thyroid health. People with poor gut health have many of the same symptoms as people with hypothyroid. Vitamins K, E, D, and calcium, zinc, iron, and magnesium levels are all effected by gut health.
If you have a limited budget, which most of us do, it is more important to try and cross out the more obvious causes first. I've been around the random supplement buying block many times myself.
Though everyone is different, we all have digestive systems and bacteria. For those of us with acne and/or food allergies, I think a bacterial imbalance and food allergy avoidance are the two most important things to deal with. Spend your money on things that correct those such as a good diet and probiotics.
In my opinion, water kefir tastes good, but is a little on the yeasty side. It didn't seem to help me. Milk kefir made me regular, but did not improve bloating, flatulence, etc. I have read that people who do not respond well to certain kinds of probiotics can have an overgrowth of some "beneficial" bacteria such as bifidobacterium.
BTW - I mentioned earlier that I had hypothyroid symptoms, along with a family history of the disease. I also have hashimoto's antibodies and an elevated (but not enough) TSH. Iodine supplementation has still done nothing. Iodine supplementation at first seemed like a logical cure all, but it seems that it is something completely larger.
i dont think my 'supplement' is even a supplement haha. its like kelp powder.. tastes gross as hell and i dont think its even strong enough to have any affects (it says 3 spoons a day with means..im doing one and it took me half an hour to drink).
I keep reading everywhere of the negative affects of iodine on acne, people saying they break out just when eating seafood so i admit i am a bit worried. kinda like i wont do enough to clear my system but doing just enough to cause more acne.
i am also salt loading. definitely easier than i thought...
i was really confident in this, but i actually think im convincing myself im things that im not. i doubt im heavy metal toxic. much like i dont have a problem with my gut or functions. tests prove that. so i guess im just convincing myself im ill in some way to then put hope in a new treatment that might help my acne. i'll keep taking the salt and iodine but i think im already predicting it wont have an effect on me much like everything else >.>
I understand where you guys are coming from, and I'm sorry it didn't work for you.
But being an incredibly skeptical person, I'll never be dissuaded of it's efficacy until I try it for myself. And really, why would I cheat myself out of an opportunity for better health, just because it didn't work for one person? That's silly. As .orgers, we know better than anyone that different bodies react differently to similar compounds, supplements, foods, etc.
I'm convinced halogenation is something that is having a serious detrimental effect on my overall health, regardless if it's causing my acne, or any other outward problem. The dangerous nature of these chemicals are real and documented.
I'm going to be hitting this issue head on from all fronts. I've been drinking nothing but distilled water for four days now. I've given up fluorinated toothpaste in exchange for baking soda. (Baking soda actually makes my teeth feel cleaner than toothpaste ever did. I highly recommend it.) I'm going to be using a slightly different supplement than both FASA and Borie88 (Lugols). Similar to Borie's Idoral, it is a combination of Potassium Iodide and elemental Iodine in liquid form.
I'm not certain why cost is such an issue. On amazon I ordered Lugols for 9 dollars a bottle which contains 250 drops. Even at a dosage of 4 drops a day, it only equates to 3 dollars a month. Hardly worth mentioning. Idoral pills are considerably more expensive for whatever reason.
I will post an update after the first week of supplementation to report any changes. I should get my package very soon.
Oh, as an aside... my experience drinking distilled water has already yielded interesting results. Overall I feel... different. Not necessarily better or worse. Just different. Last night I felt amazing, and I slept better than I have in months. Could certainly be a placebo effect, but what isn't a placebo effect is how utterly smooth and hydrated my skin feels when I wash it with distilled water vs tap water. (Right after a shower to clean off the tap water) Try it, you won't be disappointed.
Iodine is working for you. Just because you aren't experiencing any positive results that are noticeable doesn't mean it doesn't work or that people shouldn't spend money on it, It's an essential nutrient. That'd be like eating a bunch of vitamin C and saying well, i didn't notice anything it isn't working! It's essential. You need it anyway, I'd defintiely keep taking it. Just be glad you aren't having any terrible detox. That means your ahead of the game!
I've begun my iodine detox journey!
12.5mg Lugol's per day + drinking / washing face with distilled water + avoiding halogens wherever possible.
It would be great if this was my solution... a guy can dream anyways...

awesome let us know what happens 🙂
I've broken out with annoying chin/jaw/forehead acne more so worse now than months ago. this acne is so very hormonal so its frustrating becuase its like whatever im doing isnt even detox, its just more obvious hormonal acne. im not even taking a lot of iodine and its not really just iodine its kelp powder because the shops i know wont sell me iodine >.>
also the salt is making me bloating has anyone else experienced this? and as i feared, i believe i might be gaining water weight *sigh.
not sure how to combat this whilst gulping down sea salt. :/
