Pros:

didn't work for me

i was using this for 3 months and it didn't work for me it just made things worse :( it made my skin peel and it looked really bad and red. my derm prescribed me spironolactone and doxycycline & i stopped using the topicals and wow my skin looks so clear after 1 week!! so if your a girl and topical medications are not working for you it could be hormonal acne like mine, so give spironolactone a try it also makes you less oily :)

Pros:

Got rid of cystic acne, reduced pores, makes skin glow!

Cons:

Initial breakout and redness.

I am on my sixth month of using Tretinoin, and it has completely cleared my skin. I have not had a single pimple for 2 months. My skin is absolutely glowing. It has changed my life. Just be patient and give the product 4 months because the initial breakout/drying/redness can be frustrating, but I am telling you the end result is fantastic.

Pros:

-Skin clearing after about 2 months
-Any acne clears up relatively quickly
-Still get some break outs during pms
-Red marks are fading

Cons:

-peeling all over face and neck especially during the first month
-can't use it on more sensitive areas like cheeks and chin
-red blotchy marks on skin (usually clears up after a few days

I had moderate acne on my forehead and blackheads on nose. The tretinoin made my face hell the first month but it's now the 2nd month and I only get a few pimple but the black heads aren't really going away. The red marks from past acne is definitely clearing up. I found that if you're getting irritation and flaking on the areas where you don't apply the tretinoin, try applying it in the morning a 1/2 hour after you wash your face. If you use it at night, the medicine may be rubbing off onto your pillow case and getting on the other areas of your face. In my case it was my cheeks that were affected.

Pros:

Just started, only on day 3 of use, i'm very hopeful that it will treat my blackheads and fine lines.

Cons:

Slight redness and peeling, not major, feels like a minor sunburn.

I know I have to stick with it to eventually see results, even with the slight redness I already feel like my skin has a healthier glow, excited to see my skin in 3 months!

Pros:

red marks fading!
skin looks AMAZING compared to before the cream
acne is noticeably going away almost daily

Cons:

still smelly
get occasional pimples still, nothing unmanageable

I posted a few weeks ago. Well, now it's been a little over a month and I have to say I am in LOVE with this stuff! Blemishes are gone, and now I only get one or two small pimples that go away very quickly. Tonight, after washing my face, I noticed that my red marks are starting to vanish! My skin is well on its way to being acne-free. I still have a couple small pimples and red marks especially on my cheeks, but wow. This stuff really worked for me. I am infinitely glad I used it. My advice for those who are discouraged: stick with it!! It may not be an instant miracle, but with time and patience this stuff is awesome. Don't be discouraged if you get irritation or IB, that means it's doing its job! **side note: I still think the Nizoral shampoo (as a cleanser) has helped my skin tremendously also! If you haven't yet, give it a try too! Good luck :)

Pros:

clears up chest, shoulder, back acne!

Cons:

reeeaally irritated my face. itchy, red, painful..the acne seemed to get worse.

i used this for 2 weeks. my face huurt and itched and was super red. i DO NOT reccomend it for your face..but maybe i just have very sensitive skin. who knows. BUT, works great for back, shoulder, chest acne. now i am using aloe with some lavendar oil mixed in for my face and it was such a relief.

Pros:

Its ok didn't do much of a difference.

Cons:

peels skin really bad can cause the skin to become red.

It worked at first with benzaclin, my skin was flawless but after using it and changing from benzclin to benzamycin my skin was no longer the same since then retinA does not seem to work the same. Not that good turns the skin red and dark in some areas and can make skin patchy.

Pros:

-No nightmarish IB for me like everyone is saying
-I have only been using this for ten days, and my red marks are fading quickly.
-I'm not developing any new pimples at the moment
-When used consistently, it prevents wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation, and skin aging! I plan on using this as long as I can

Cons:

-Drying, some inevitable peeling on sensitive areas
-Leaves skin a little raw for a while
-Takes patience, though it's healing your skin extremely rapidly

If you actually stick to this, it can really make your skin gorgeous in the long term. It's cell regenerating properties make this an ideal cream for so many skin conditions. Though, I would not recommend this to someone with light acne; only someone with moderate or higher, and maybe not severe.

Pros:

-easy to use
-shrinks appearance of pores
-erased nasolabial line on the right side from smirking all the time
-shorter breakouts
-made existing scars more shallow

Cons:

-initial breakout is devastating
-takes time
-doesn't help much with oil control

This is my 3rd week on this regimen and I'm completely frustrated. I know that the product is working because all the impurities that is has drawn out disappear within 2-4 days. The surrounding skin is AMAZING in comparison to day 1 on this, so I know it's doing it's magic. I have read for some it takes as long as 6+ months to reap the full benefits. It may seem like a long time, but otherwise you'd still be breaking out doing nothing proactive about it. I say give it a go if you're as desperate as I am. What's another few months of zits? They'll be gone and take away the little reminders with them :) BTW I am 23, have super fair, oily, and sensitive skin, dark blonde hair, and hazel eyes... strange combo I know. I blame genetics. Oh, it's already gotten rid of about half a dozen scars, the kind that look like you've poked a needle in your skin or something. Also, when I used to tug at my damaged skin it looked crepey(sp)? Now it looks like it's a lot more plump and ALIVE. Ahh, I'm stoked to see how my face will look at the end of this tube :)

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
