Pros:

Most effective treatment used. 48 yrs. old and have had acne since 17 yrs. old. Skin looks much better. One tube lasts almost 4 to 5 months.

Cons:

Cost for 0.05% Tretonin was $62.00 for a tube without insurance coverage. The low payments everyone else had must have been insurance co-pays.

Took a couple of months to notice a difference. Not much initial outbreak. My instructions say to wait 20 to 30 minutes for face to dry before application. Diet has always been a factor in my breakouts. Don't believe the hype that it doesn't have an effect. Greasy hamburgers, french fries, potato chips, fried foods and greasy pizza will always make me break out within 2 days after eating. Also, just about any moisturizer (some even oil free) make me get pimples.

Pros:

Prevents breakouts, gets rid of freckles, evens out skin tone, makes skin smooth, makes skin look really really nice, like you have the best skin in the world.

Cons:

Initial breakouts bothered me really badly and this product took a while to work, around 7 weeks.

OK, if you really hate acne than use this product it will make your skin look beautiful. I used Retin-A 0.025% and used an amount of about 3 pea's for my whole face. Use a Salicylic Acid face wash like Garnier Pure A twice a day.

Pros:

It really exfoliates the skin well. It kills pimples quickly.

Cons:

It takes a long time to work. I've been on it for close to 2 months and my forehead still has blackheads and pimples. You have to be patient since you will break out at first. It's bringing up all of your toxins onto the surface.

If you aren't patient, don't take Retin-A. You'll just be complaining and you'll most likely stop using it, therefore, you'll never see the great results. Acne is caused by the foods we eat and our diet. Don't believe otherwise. If you eat crap, expect your skin to look like crap. Try fasting to rid your body of all of your toxic waste. It also helps with clearing up skin. Just don't go back to eating crap or else acne will come back.

Pros:

my skin is completely clear now! I use to have cystic acne and now I get very few breakouts (tiny ones that go away in 3 days if i ever get any)

Cons:

at first my skin was peeling but that went away in 2 weeks. It took about 7 weeks until I was completely acne free. Acne got worse before it got better.

It worked for me! Since I was always having a problem with cystic acne (esp. my chin) I feel ok about not wearing makeup and show my face more in public instead of hiding like i use to. I had been prescribed Differin + an antibiotic before this and that did absolutely nothing for me. My Derm prescribed me this and i'm also on the antibiotic Doryx. I have been using this since Mid December '07

Pros:

reduces scar, minimizes redness, control acne breakout

Cons:

can cause dryness

worth buying (especially if you have ins. coverage) need to be used 3-4 weeks for a notable difference, and it may cause breakouts in the beginning (its how it works to clear it up) but skin is improved dramatically. best if used with a good acne facial cleanser, i used aveeno clear complexion foam.

Pros:

Amazing results.....IN 8 WEEKS!

Cons:

Gets worse before you see results

Bottom line is that this medication is one of the smartest technologies I have come across! I hate how people are saying they hated it and they only used it for a week or even a couple weeks. This product takes patience. And if you had acne like I did, it is very much worth every second of it. AMAZING! USE it.

Pros:

I dried up my acne really well and continues to do so

Cons:

dry itchy, painful skin, skin peels, redness

I have had acne since I was thirteen, and I have tried eveything I can think of under the sun, both over the counter and prescribed. Iactually got tired of all the prescriptions and reccommend to my dermatalogist that I try Retin-A. After the first few week, I almost gave up, but then he told me to keep using it. After six weeks or so I started seeing improvements. I have never been so happy to get rid of those acne. An it keeps them from coming back. Great product.

Pros:

This acne medicine completely cleared my face. My skin is nearly flawless, and it was all thanks to this. I have to admit, that I had a microderm procedure done. If you don't have it done, it'll take longer for the medicine to work. Try microderm too

Cons:

Try using it every 2 or 3 nights. Not every night. It'll burn your face and make it red. Your skin will probably peel. Wet your face and kinda rub the dead skin off for best results.

If your not too worried about peeling skin or anything, this medicine is perfect. It works, and it will help your skin look great. It even helps wrinkles and scars. You should have the mircroderm procedure done at your dermatoligist office first. It helps the medicine work better and faster. If you don't have insurance, the procedure can be very expensive, and so can the medicine. I hope this helps someone.

Pros:

really clears up all kinds of acne and makes skin smooth, clears blemishes quicker than just naturally getting rid of them

Cons:

dry and red at first, pretty flaky, gets worse before better, took 3 and a half to 4 months for it to work for me

i am totally satisfied with what it has done. it took a while and had a few rough times but definitely worth it in the end just be patient and stay positive. the main bad part is getting worse before it gets better, but when it is better you won't even remember the times when it was bad, and you will be happy you stuck with it!

Pros:

Clears up acne, Fades acne scars

Cons:

Initial breakout, sensitivity to sun, Initial redness in face

This stuff works the best for my acne. I was completely clear from using 0.025%. Went thru three weeks of an initial breakout, but it was worth it. It really cut down the life of a pimple. And it helpes with acne scarring. And I think some people should wait to judge this product until they have actually used it for the 3 month duration.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
