Pros:

Cheap, effective, and easy to use.

Cons:

Mild dry skin/redness.

This is a good product! I've only been using it for 2 weeks, every other day and it has completely cleared my acne. I have some scarring but it seems to be clearing much faster than normal. Before using Retin-A I was concerned about my acne getting worse before it got better. From my first application my skin felt softer and looked brighter. In all I have had around 5 spots in the past two weeks. Some have been big however they cleared within a matter of days. I am still using it every other day and think I will continue doing so. I should add that if you use too much it causes massive dryness and redness. If you used a small amount, the negative effects people mention are very minimal. I apply a thin streak of the cream directly from the tube to my face, across my cheeks and forehead, and then proceed to massage it over my whole face. I also took anti-inflammatory ibuprofen just after application - helps reduce redness and progression of acne into larger lesions.

Pros:

Works, Fades everything, tones, can eat what i want now, ONE step, clear skin

Cons:

had a bad breakout initially(one week in) but soooo worth it.

was skeptical but sh*t works. I had bad breakout from it but then it works reallll well and quickly after breakout. Can eat what I want now and stick with it. Start off with every other day or w.e and then after a couple weeks use every night and u will be so amazed how well it works

Pros:

Less and less break outs as time goes by (and its only the 4th week). I've tried proactiv, and all those other systems, but they don't work as well as Retin A.

Cons:

It takes time to start seeing results, but these results last longer (and I hope it does). It dried up my skin a lot when I began, but now I'm used to it and I can use it every night. Costly too...

Retin A is very effective in treating Acne. It takes a lot of patience, but it's definitely worth using. At last, I've found an answer to my acne problem. But...it requires a prescription from a doctor...

Pros:

Works well. You will seriously have no acne in 3 months.Smooth skin. Heals scars and shrinks pores.

Cons:

You will break out for about 2-3 months or so and obviously feel horrible. Dry skin very badly. You should use Cetaphil no b.p. or s.a.. You can't really go in the sun unless you want a red sunburned face.

Use it, it works.. I had BAD acne and now I'm completely clear.

Pros:

Clearing of the skin after 6 weeks. Best it has looked in the last 10 years

Cons:

Red with lots of flakes after moving up to the .1%

I started out with the .05% and used it for about 4 weeks with okay results, no major flaking and no redness. After moving up to the .1% the last couple of weeks I have noticed red, irritated, and very flaky skin esp around the chin/nose area. I am using a washcloth in the morning after to remove the flakes. I have only had one cyst popup but it is quickly fading. I am very happy with the results so far, my skin is very smooth, its amazing stuff. I have tried everything else, all over the counter "systems" even laser treatments and this is the only thing that has helped. I am looking forward to the next month or so.

Pros:

I use this topical treatment for superficial scars and to mantain my skin clear!

Cons:

dry skin, redness, peeling and burning

For the first 3 weeks, it made me break out, and made my skin burn, get dry, red and irritated. But that's only because it's cleansing the pores, and at the same time making the top layer of the skin peel off. Every day after 3 weeks my skin gets really smooth and clear. I have something come up every now and then, but it's definitely worth it. Be patient and you will see great results... :) For acne I use Clearogen, is the best!

Pros:

Skin glows, reduced pore size, less breakouts, less blackheads.

Cons:

Sensitivity. Putting some make-ups on is irritating and can sting.

Well worth it. Broke out the first two weeks I used it. Skin probably needed to clear out! Complextion is MUCH better, reduced appearance of large pores, freckles and old scaring. Significant drop in breakouts, although nothing is perfect. :P

Pros:

EVERYTHING!

Cons:

Redness

I have very oily skin and had terrible breakouts before using Retin A. I frequently went to the dermatologist and nothing helped. I hate seeing those "get your money" scams on tv for acne. This stuff ACTUALLY works! Despite the peeling of the first week or so, once you use it in months time, skin is gorgeous. I love it! Absolutely love it!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
