Lightens red marks from previous pimples. Less oily skin. Clears up acne slowly. I used it when I was 19 and had a really bad break out. Now I'm 23 and using it again. I have been using it for three weeks now and seeing some results.

Cons:

Redness to skin. Breakouts in the beginning. I m still getting 1-2 new pimples a week. But have only used this for three weeks.

Doxy 100mg twice a day Eucerine toner clindamycin solution once a day RetinA at night. week1 retina mixed with lotion every 3 days week2 retina mixed with lotion every other day week3 retina mixed with lotion every day

Pros:

CLEARS REDNESS

Cons:

MAKES SKIN PEEL LIKE CRAZY!!!!!!!!

MY DOCTOR HAD ME TRY THIS AFTER ANTI-BIOTICS DIDN'T WORK...AND SADLY NEITHER DID THIS PRODUCT. IT DID CLEAR UP REDNESS FROM BREAK OUTS BUT DIDN'T HELP ME ACTUALLY STOP BREAKING OUT AND I COULDN'T GET OVER MY SKIN PEELING. THEY SAY YOU SHOULD STOP PEELING AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS BUT BY WEEK 6 I HAD HAD ENOUGH!!! I COULDN'T EVEN TOUCH MY FACE WITHOUT FLAKES OF SKIN COMING OFF!! ICK!!! PERSONALLY I'D RATHER COVER UP REDNESS THEN HAVE PATCHES OF SKIN MISSING.

Pros:

Clears acne up better than any other treatment I know of.

Cons:

takes a while to start working, the first few weeks you get major breakouts, the first few weeks you peel around the mouth and the skin can look red for the first few weeks.

I think it's funny that most people are writting reviews after using it for only a few weeks, if not less. Tretinoin is designed in a way so that it can take MONTHS to take effect. The instructions mine came with said to expect positive results in 3 MONTHS. So anyways, after a few weeks of using it, I broke out terrible. After a month or two more, the acne started coming less and less. I have been using it for nearly 5 months now, and my face is pretty much clear of ance now, and don't get many new pimples anymore. I tried proactive, all the Rite Aid stuff, 10% BP, etc etc. Nothing worked that well. Tretinoin DOES work. It it's NOT a miracle, next-day cure though. This stuff takes time. It's worth the wait though. Don't give up on it, give it a few months and you WILL see your face transform. Don't JUSt use it though, also make sure to wash your face twice a day, and put on antibacterial treatment in the morning (tretinoin at night). This regimen has changed my face completely.

Pros:

Works great. Seeing improvment of skin already. A few of my acne scars are fading. No cost to me!

Cons:

Some areas are breaking out more than usual, like around my chin area. Have to be patient to use the product.

If used consistently and by following physician's recommendations, great results will show. I have had little flaking. I use it at bedtime and use a facial moisturizer with 15 SPF in the morning.

Pros:

Got rid of spots the 2.5% Ben could not fast. Using Retin-A Micro.

Cons:

Will dry and make red if not use to large amounts of chemicals on skin.

Works well and fast. Becafeful of the type because prescription plans don't like to but the really like to put the Micro on their list of"normal coverage" and might be on an "Extended coverage" meaning higher copays

Pros:

Worked very fast, inexpensive, easy to use, and doesn't leave an oily look at all. Got rid of 90% of her acne after just a few weeks as well as blackheads too. Her scars are fading too.

Cons:

She complains of burning.
Very little sun will cause a massive sunburn.
The first week and a half the extreme redness and peeling was awful. But now she is only a little red, and instead of peeling has more of a dry look.

I will keep getting it for her to use only at bedtime due to the photosensitivity. I'm actually pleased with this med.

Pros:

keeps my skin very mild and clear. evened out my skin tone and smoothed it out a lot.

Cons:

takes awhile to start working. little breakout and peeling at the beginning.

my doctor prescribed me .025% tretinion cream after i was done with accutane for about a year. iv been using it the last couple months. after a tiny breakout and flackiness my skin is now so smooth and even. i dont really get any zits so thats nice too. i think its a good product to use if you have redmarks or have just finished accutane.

Pros:

Speeds up regeneration of skin surface.

Cons:

Achieves the above by causing cells to scale; therefore, it's a lot of work to not look like a fish.

I have dry, quite fine, acne prone skin, and this stuff at .025% strength is too much for my face to handle on a regular basis. I wind up scrubbing away the profuse flakiness, and that only makes things worse; my spots tend to bleed. I suppose if you had the patience/opportunity to live a flaky life for a month, your skin condition could balance itself out. In the end, I can only use it as an occasional 2 day treatment when I have no new acne; it's not worth it for the price.

Pros:

works great

Cons:

flaking of the skin

I have mild acne and I saw a difference after my first week of use. I have a lot of comedones but not too many inflammatory pimples. I've been on it for a few weeks, some of my blackheads are still there but my skin has improved. The PA at my dermasurgeons office gave me free samples so I'm not sure if my insurance is going to cover this or not. She said it costs $100.

Pros:

Has made me completely clear with an overall smooth and even skin tone.

Cons:

Takes a long time and you have to be very patient. Towards the beginning you will experience extreme redness and flakiness -- not fun!

The first time I went on Retin-A I was 15 and it worked wonderful. Although I didn't use it as consistently (or religiously!) as I use it now I obtained really good results. I stayed on it until I turned 18 and went away to college where I got too lazy to apply Retin-A every night. After the first couple months off Retin-A my skin was still perfectly clear so I had thought that I no longer needed it, but I was so WRONG. After a few months off it my skin was the worst it has ever been! So I went back to my derm who put me back on it. Best decision ever. Although this time, it took me a lot longer to see improvements. The first couple of months I was so upset with the appearance of my skin, but I stuck with it. I didn't see any major improvements until about month 4 which was really frustrating, but I am glad I stuck with it. It has now been a little over a year since I restarted Retin-A and I am 100% clear with very little red marks that are still fading day by day.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
