Pros:

Great product, Not pricey, One tube lasts 4-6 months, Clears up acne, Improves skin tone, May help with scarring in long term

Cons:

Redness, Itchiness, Flakiness, Initial breakout

Started this product in February. Broke out on it for 2-4 weeks. Acne was moderate to a couple more severe cysts. Used .1% Gel which was recommended because helps more with scarring. Overall acne is much better, however I also used benzaclin in the mornings followed by Olay oil Free moisturizer with spf 15. In the beginnign I used the moisturizer also prior to Taz at nights. Deal with the harsness for 4-6 weeks of the product and you will see improvement. Easy to get discouraged. Apparently you need to use it 1-2 years to help with scar remodeling/photodamage. We'll see how that goes. Good product overall if you can deal with the initial side effects. Just smooth it out nicely over the entire skin and be tough for a couple months even though you'll look crappy and you should be okay down the line.

Pros:

not yet

Cons:

burning

My dermatologist prescribed it for some brown spots that appeared in my cheeckbones during my pregnancy but all I am reading is that is for acne! My skin feels very sensible and a little burning. I think is beginning to peel and I have just used for two nights. Does anybody knows if it works for spots? By the way, I am using the cream.. not the gel..

Pros:

Reduces acne, makes skin very smooth

Cons:

Takes a while to work, a lot of peeling and burning in the beginning

I have been using tazorac for a little over a year now, when I first got it, I misunderstood the derm. and only used it on the specific pimple. So make sure to put about a pea size amt. all over your face, I also use duac topical gel on top of that - rec. by my derm. together they work very well. The routine that I have found to work (I have very sensitive skin) is to take a wash cloth, and dove sensitive skin bar soap and lather that onto your face, scrubbing moderately. Then make sure ALL soap is off, and dry off your face. Then take a pea size amt. of tazorac and put little dots all over your face, then rub all in. Then I use duac topical gel on top of that as well, and you do the same thing, just a pea size amt. and little dots and rub in. I have noticed if I, personally use more than that, it makes me break out more. So do not be too generous with the amt. just a pea size amount. In the morning I usually feel a little dry so I use a light moisturizer to have a fresh feeling.

I've just started to use this medication 4 days ago and my skin is peeling off, and it's starting to hurt a lot...Is that suppose to happen? will the pain go away later if I continue this medication?

Pros:

My skin is so much smoother than what it was before!

Cons:

It made my face red the first couple of weeks and oh yea, my face peeled off! It happened right away and was awful. I've now been using for two months and can see the results.

It was frustrating at first and I am still dealing with black heads but it seems to be working and my dermi said that it will keep getting better.

Pros:

After applying Taz only three times, my skin was smoother than I ever remembered it being. After the moisturizer, it seems to have that healthy glow that I thought you only saw on airbrushed photos. I have not had more breakouts since I started Taz

Cons:

My skin is a little more pink now and definitely dry and a flaky. Now I moisturize at night and in the morning so the peeling is kept under control.

This gives you super smooth skin and although I've only been using it for a week, it's impressed me so far. I know that you have to wait around three months to see acne disappear. It's very important to apply a moisturizer and make sure your skin is Completely dry before applying the Taz. It's normal for your skin to feel more sensitive and for it to sting a bit when you apply moisturizer but your skin will get used to it over time. It works wonders for lightening recent scars I've also noticed. This product works by sloughing off the top layer(s) of skin and speeding up skin renewal. I'm looking forward to seeing what my skin will look like in a couple months; it's already baby soft! Also, it's $30 with my copay but is horribly expensive ($400+) without insurance. You can ask for the generic prescription which costs about $60 and I imagine would be worth it.

Pros:

Saw results within the first NIGHT of using it. I was so suprised. When I looked in the mirror, my skin appeared to be very smooth, and calmed down. When I washed my face, I was also a little suprised to see that the top layer of my skin peeled off.

Cons:

Within two more days of using it, my skin became very irritated, and I couldn't go to school. I had to stay home and moisturize my face, because it was very tight and dry. But it did help clear most of the blemishes.

I was prescribed Cetaphil gentle face wash with the cetaphil SPF 15 moisturizer along with the Tazorac and aczone. I was told to use the Tazorac starting out every other night, until my skin got used to it. Then I would use it every night. Also, I was supposed to use aczone every morning. This combination is alright, so far. The cetaphil is pretty good with the Taz, except I'm having problems with the moisturizer burning very badly after spreading it on my face.. Not sure if the tazorac is doing this or not. DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF USING THIS AS A SPOT TREATMENT. You must apply it evenly over the affected area. I tried using it just on the blemishes on the second night, and it made my skin very blotchy. It is now peeling in only certain places, and it looks bad.

Pros:

i DO NOT have acne anymore. i can go out without makeup.

Cons:

the initial breakout was horrible, peeling before my skin got used to it. i had a case of eczema on my face & my derm told me to stop using the taz for a few days so that i could apply eczema medication & i got two cysts, so you can't stop using it.

STICK WITH THIS STUFF! my IB was so bad i would cry in the shower but now my skin is smooth & gorgeous! i also use a very gentle regimen along with it: AM wash with an aloe cleanser, apply shea butter, PM oil cleansing method, apply coconut oil, apply tazorac

Pros:

Begining to see clearer skin after about 6 months. Nothing left on my cheeks and not nearly as red as before.

Cons:

Begining was intense irritation. Flaky skin did NOT want to leave the house. that was done within a week. made skin a little more oily for a couple months. made skin irritable and sensative for the first few weeks

Useful product if you have the patience to wait for results and have no big events occuring within the first few weeks of treatment. Its starting to clear my skin and you to could have the same results! :D

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
