Pros:

Been using 1 month plus 3 days. It costs 35 for me with insurance, Am about 1 third through the Tube so roughly will last 3-4 Months per tube which isn't bad. Longer if your acne isn't severe. Skin beginning to lighten, No cysts since I've started.

Cons:

Made me break out around my face in small pustules, but wasn't as bad. There will be an initial Breakout.

I am using .1% nightly. When I started I would use Olay Complete for Sensitive skin moisturizer. When you first start it is key to use a good moisturizer. First wash your face. Let dry then moisturize Then 30 Mins later put on Tazorac, light layer all around your face. I am also on Minocycline once a day, and Benzaclin in the mornings. I put on moisturizer after benzaclin also. I think the benzaclin and the minocycline may have aided in less of initial breakout although I still experienced some. I think in 2 months from now I will no longer need the Mino or the benza. So I finally stopped being scared of Taz and started it. It is one month later, the initial breakout is finally starting to subside and skin is slowly improving. Emphasis on Slowly. My scars seem a little better, although I think it will take 6 months to really improve. This is a LONG term thing. If your acne is really bad I recommend using Benzaclin in Mornings, get a good moisturizer and antibiotic.

Pros:

None

Cons:

Everything

This is one of the worst products I have ever used. It tells you that your face may get worst for the first couple of weeks, but my face got so bad that I can't even get it back to the way it was before I started using Tazorac. It has done nothing good for my skin, and now I don't even know how to fix the damage it has done.

Pros:

Clearing up of the acne that the TAXORAC caused itself

Cons:

Literally, the peeling of your skin while your going about your day, burn marks on your skin, the itchy breakouts it causes and the the redness

I have used this product for 3 months now. I have researched myself to death about my symptons. The peeling of the skin that I read from several reviews is SOOO true as is the burning and scarring of the skin. It does cause severe breakouts in the beginning. I went back to my doctor for my 6 week check-up and my face was actually worse. He said that is common. My acne was no where near this bad when i started but he keeps telling me to hang in there because it will give the results i want. He says right now it the only product that can minimize your pores. He also prescribed DORYX (which was ridiculously expensive).

Pros:

Renewed skin, no blackheads on treated area. I had some old acne scars for a few years that I thought I would have to have lasered off, this removed them in about 2 weeks!

Cons:

Horrible initial breakout period, redness and peeling of treated area

I have been using this about 6 weeks. 31yrs old, had acne issues my whole life, went away for many years, recently back. The first few weeks, your skin will get worse. However, the blemishes I did get were different than before and healed differently. This breakout period is over and the new skin looks great. You must stick with this and give it time to work, and use it correctly. I suggest using Cetaphil, but use the thicker cream that comes in a tube,This has completely offset the dry skin. a light exfoliation with a washcloth daily also hopes to remove the dead skin. For someone who is not a teenager using this product, I am happy with the results so far. The new skin is smooth, and a different texture than I have ever had. I will continue to use this product and post my updates.

Pros:

Smoothing of skin, less whiteheads, heals popped blemishes faster.

Cons:

Initial breakout, dryness, some peeling. (Small price to pay for clear skin.)

MY STORY: 17, had acne since I was 12. Got sick of having to wear foundation to cover up my skin while most girls ran around with pretty, clear faces. I get blackheads on my nose and chin, whiteheads and little bumps along my cheeks and jawline, occasional whiteheads on my forehead. Went to my derm a year ago and he gave me samples to try. Gave up when I got the initial breakout. I struggled with various drugstore washes, treatments, scrubs and Proactive, I found my Taz samples and tried again. *** Anyone who has used Taz less than a month SHOULD NOT BE REVIEWING TAZ! Every night since one month ago I've been putting on Tazorac. The first two weeks were frustrating as Taz did it's job bringing all those under-the-skin clogged pores to surface. Taz healed those pimples I popped quickly and now I only have scars that are fading. Morning: Clean & Clear Morning Burst Scrub. Evening: Clearasil Wash & Lotion, then after face is fully dry, Taz. IT WORKS! Keep using

Pros:

For most people it will clear up any acne, photodamage, wrinkles, and psforiasis. You should see a significant difference in your skin. (You must stick with it for atleast three months unless severe side effects occur, consult your dermatologist)

Cons:

Redness, flaking, peeling, dry lips and itchy skin, increase in sensitivity to the sun and while washing your face. You will most likely have an initinal breakout that is severe. The price can be expensive depending on your insurance or health care.

I'm specifically talking about the 30mg Tazorac cream with 0.01% Tazarotene, too be used every other night. You must gently exfoliate your skin atleast two nights of the week to remove the peeling skin, moisturizer should be used after you cleanse your face and before you apply the Taz, and you must use a very thin layer of the Taz. Using a generous amount will only give you worse side effects. Taz will cause a sever breakout in the first month (approx.) of using it. I recommend you visit your dermatologist after a month of use to check that the Taz is having the desired effect. You must always apply Taz according to your doctor's orders (every other night in my case), if you miss a dose return to your schedule and do not apply two doses to make up for the missed one. Any severe side effect should be consulted with a dermatologist immediately. Taz shouldn't be used with other topical medicine and face should not be cleansed with soap or alcohol based products. Good luck.

Pros:

None!

Cons:

Hated it! Made my face break out even more.

I tried this for 3 weeks. My face just kept getting worse and worse. I originally had light acne, but by the time I quit using this I had moderate and was well on my way to severe. Even their website only promises 50% reduction of pimples in 3 months. That puts you back where you started. Total waste of money! Destructive to your self image!

Pros:

See results in bumps going away and smaller pores.

Cons:

Drying and breakouts before getting better but it does as my pores look so much smaller and breakouts are gone. My boyfriend told me last night how much better skin is looking.

Now in my 40's I've started getting acne again, painful sores under the skin like in my teens. I also had little persistent bumps that I could not get rid of. Derm gave me Tazorac, Solodine and Aczone. I can already see my pores getting smaller but first it had to kill bacteria in the pores thus causing breakout in begining as impurties only have one way out. At the moment I do have drying going on but I've always had drying with any meds in the begining. Doc says give it all two month and will see amazing results and I'm all ready happy after two weeks. The drying does stink at the moment but worth seeing smaller pores that I haven't had before plus smoother skin. I was on accutane years ago and it worked well but this seems to be doing the same at the moment. Best wishes to all.....and remember it's got to get worse before it gets better.

Pros:

After 6 weeks my skin is beautiful! I am not completely acne free yet but I can sincerely say my face is glowing!

Cons:

The acne got so much worse before it got better.

My dermatologist warned me that I shouldn't judge the product until I have used it for at least 12 weeks but that I should start to see results in 6 weeks. During the first 2 weeks of use my skin broke out so bad that I wanted to cry. As a women in my 30's I was mortified. Slowly I noticed that the pimples began to heal extremely quickly, sometimes overnight and the new pimples occurred less and less. I've notice only mild redness and dryness. My Dermatologist has helped me experiment with all 4 levels of Tazorac to find the right dosing for me. Currently I switch off between the 1% cream and .5% gel, and use the 1% gel on any tough break outs.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
