Pros:

my skin looks tighter (usually my pores are so open that it looks really bad)

Cons:

itchy, a little red, not so bad

i am not sure. i started a couple days ago. i am just sick and tired of my acne. i have tried everything. i mean everything. my skin is horrible, and i cannot bare it anymore. i hope this stuff works. i have reached the it gets worse before it gets better phase. my doctor put me on this at night, another cream in the morning and a pill 2 times a day for a month. he also told me to put on cetaphil cream, and so far, i have not had any drying. i just hoope this stuff works. i see people with perfect skin and it breaks my heart because i just want to be one of those people. i have had bad acne since the age of 13.

Pros:

skin is noticeably smoother, fewer pimples, marks from old acne is fading as skin peels

Cons:

acne gets worse in first three weeks of starting, peeling is bothersome.

i was somewhat discouraged when i first started and worried about having new marks to deal with after the product cleared old and existing pimples, but the peeling helped this and my face is noticeably smoother and clearer. it is worth the aggravation at the start for the results it produces later on. it can be hard to deal with your face being worse but although i doubted others, it really does get worse before it gets better. i do not use it every day though, when i see a new pimple forming, i apply it and it reduces the healing time for it significantly. my suggestion is that it may not work for everyone but given all the over the counter products we may have all tried, this one should not be any worse to try and hope for the best. after trying retin A, differin, antibiotics, gels, every salycic acid product i could find, i think tazorac has given me the best results.

Pros:

At first, my skin was red and peeled often. I've been on the cream for 2.5 months now and can say that it has approved my skin for the better. It took away bumps, blackheads, and cysts.

Cons:

I still struggle with scars and dryness and get a few whiteheads. I'm hoping that these will stop down the line Also, don't put it on around your lip area! it will dry your lips.

I recommend it to anyone with moderate acne.

Pros:

Doesnt make face dry or peel. Goes on smooth. Results are great!

Cons:

It took about 2 months to see results. The addition of Benzaclin made my face dry, burn and peel. TAkes a little getting used to.

I had underlying acne for about 2 years and finally went to see a derm. I was on taz and doxy for 8 weeks and saw very few results and my skin was painfully sore from the acne coming up to the surface. Went back to see derm and he gave me Benzaclin to put on in the morning and in 1 week I saw results. It dried out the surface of my skin while the taz pulled it up to the surface at night. So far its working great. The only problem I have is the scars but they seem to be fading away. I was beginning to lose hope until I got the benzaclin added to my regiment. Stick with it b/c with time it will work. It goes underneath to pull out all the junk so it takes time. The tube I have lasts forever too.

Pros:

really works

Cons:

takes a loooong time (2 months, in my case); must use product every day. if you skip a day, acne is a bit worse the next day. also, i suffered from the awful initial breakout for a month.

tazorac will work eventually, but it takes time. my skin looked worse for the first month, but began to gradually clear during the second month, though i still suffered from occasional breakouts (less and less severe each time). i have also noticed that my acne clears much faster now (within three days) as opposed to the week or two that it used to take to clear. as i approach the two month mark, i am almost completely clear, with the exception of a few comedones on one of my cheeks, but they get smaller each day and are easily covered by makeup. the tazorac website claims that you will not see full results until the end of the third month. i have insurance so it didn't cost that much, and after two months i still have 75% of the tube left. i didn't have any of the redness or peeling that other users describe, but i applied moisturizer a few minutes after each application and i used a gentle cleanser.

Pros:

My cystic acne reduced in size after the first application. Brings all of the white heads to the surface. And it's inexpensive.

Cons:

It makes the blemishes really red.

I had a chemical peel done 4 days before I started Taz, I think it helped get the peeling out of the way. My skin actually feels comfortable. Also on Benzaclin and Doryx.....this is my third round on those. I use Cetafil as my cleanser and apply Clinque's Gel Moisturizer before I apply Taz in the PM only. My skin was really oily before and now I don't have to constantly wipe the oil off of my face. Seems to be making a difference. I'm only a week in. Time will tell. Also, I found a $15 mail in rebate on the web. It's not much but it makes a difference. I paid $25 before the rebate.....my insurance covered a lot of the cost.

Just got this scipt, I am reading a lot of dry skin comments. The best way to get your skin used to this med and get the full benefit of it is as followed: 2x's a wk for 2 wks., 3x's a wk. for 3 wks. 4x's a wk. for 4 wks., 5x's a wk. for 5 wks. then continue the 5x's a week as long as prescribed by Dr. If done slowly like noted, you will not go through the drastic red, dry peeling, ect. stage. Hope this helps!

Pros:

it cleared my acne on all over my face, faded my scars, got rid of my cystic acne.

Cons:

took a whole, about 6 weeks for it to start really working. i got really red for like 2 weeks and my skin would peel a bunch. but my skin got used to it and now im fine.

this stuff is amazing. i had almost every type of acne: blackheads, whiteheads, cysts, puss filled, nodules, everything. and my skin was terrible. i even had scars all over my face that made it look like i still had acne even when i didnt. after 4 months of using this, my skin was COMPLETELY flawless. i had minimal side effects, red skin was my worst side effect. i really like how tazorac draws all the acne i had UNDER my skin out and now i dont have any deep pimples or anything like that. just stick with it because it is extremely worth it.

Pros:

THIS STUFF IS AMAZING!! It makes your skin feel and looks smooth, helps with scars after using it for a while

Cons:

YOU WILL BREAK OUT BADLY in the first month/two months ( it makes your skin worse before it gets better), thins skin out, kind of expensive (but WORTH IT!!)

I started using this about a year ago, and at first my skin got TERRIBLE, but it said that this would happen so I kept using it. After about three months my skin was beautiful! I could actually go out without makeup which was a first for me, and my doctor said if I continued using it, it would eventually fade scars. The only thing I didn't like was it thinned my skin out, so if I was embarrassed my face would turn bright red, but this was worth acne free skin. Then, I felt like I didn't need to use it anymore; bad idea because a year later I am breaking out again. I recently started using it again though. BOTTOM LINE: Your acne will get worse first but KEEP USING IT!! And don't stop once your skin is clear, just keep using it and you will love your skin!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
