Pros:

cheap and works!

Cons:

I never experienced any negative side effects. I certainly didn't notice any less facial hair.

I will continue taking it! I has worked better for me than all the anti-biotics, topicals and even the accutane.

Pros:

Takes 2 months to even begin to start working and during that time terrible breakouts. Stick it out.
weight loss

Cons:

The side effects are nothing compared to the other acne medications. There's slight dehydration and dizziness but that's about it.

It's not "Jesus Christ" that has cleared your skin, you know, it's a MEDICATION developed by SCIENTISTS. You know, do to with Science, the arch enemy of Religion. Haha, delusion is funny.

Pros:

I remember feeling totally helpless about my skin, too. Thank you, Lord Jesus, this med. has been miracle. No more pain and cystic acne. Clear Skin. I take 2 50 mg. pills in a.m. and that's it. You have got to try this! HAVE HOPE!

Cons:

NONE!!!!!I never worry about what my skin looks like anymore. No more obsessing, crying, frustration. Only thing that worked for me.

God loves you--he sees your tears and frustration and he wants you to have hope for your skin.

Pros:

Clear skin finally after trying Proactive, Murad, antibiotics - you name it.

Cons:

a little tired/ dehydrated

Try it! If you have hormonal acne; if you are a woman who has heavy or irregular periods and has had acne for awhile. You may be like me and have PCOS and this stuff works wonders for the acne. I feel like I have different skin. I swear people don't want you to know about this because they want to keep making money off you trying to find a cure for your acne, when this medicine is cheap and works very well.

Pros:

Seems to be working FAST and it is affordable

Cons:

Need to get a blood test every 6 weeks. A little dryness

THIS IS AMAZING!! I have spent thousands of $$ trying to get my Acne under control. I have tried EVERYTHING from antibiotics to Accutane, to laser peels and NOTHING has worked. In 1 week (5 days before my period when my acne is at its worse) NOT A SINGLE PIMPLE ON MY FACE!! Just scars. I am a bit angry with the doctors who have SUCKED so much money out of me leading up to this. I hope it continues to work this well. I need to ask if my daughter can use it. She is 14. Does anybody know if she would be able to use it?

Pros:

Less oiliness and clear skin (for the most part)

Cons:

Dizzyness

I have been on Spironolactone for a little over a month. I have definitely seen an improvement in oiliness. I am mostly clear now. I get a few small zits here and there... it seem usually around my period. I am only taking 50mg a day. I may go back to the derm. and up the dosage to 75mg, which may completely clear me up. I didn't experience any side effects but dizziness. It only happened a few times and hasn't happened in a long time now. So I think it was just my body adjusting to the medication. All n all I have had a great experience so far on Spironolactone. I definitely recommend giving it a try!

Pros:

Overall clearer skin, no real breakouts, maybe some weight loss too.

Cons:

Hasn't helped yet with coarse facial hair.

My doctor presribed spiro to help with both hormonal acne and some coarse hair growth in my chin area. The acne on face, neck, and back has pretty much disappeared. I've been on it for over a year now and have had none of the negative side affects others mention like thirst or excessive urination. But I haven't seen a decrease in the number of several coarse dark hairs on my chin area. Still plucking away...

Pros:

Works!! I'm pissed off at my doctor for not giving me this right off the bat.

Cons:

None. I dropped a lot of weight because adderall takes away my appetite and this dehydrates me, which is a bad thing for me because I'm too small. If you're a little person, this might make you feel sick sometimes.

This stuff is incredible. My acne went away and I've only had a few little bumps along my hairline, tiny, like little grains of sand that brush away and don't come back. I've been on this stuff for three months, I had a 90 day supply, and when I had only 9 pills left I ordered my refill. Well, it's been two weeks and my order's gotten lost in the mail or something, so I've missed my doses for about four or five days now. The meds cleared my skin up beautifully, with zero negative side effects. I love the stuff. The weird thing is that I thought I was breaking out a tiny tiny bit when I finally ran out of it completely, and since I've been off it the mini break-out vanished. I thought you were supposed to break out awfully if you stopped taking it? Weird. I'm expecting to wake up with awful skin very soon, but that's the mail-people's fault, not the meds. (It also tastes yummy and minty.)

Pros:

Clearer more beautiful skin!!

Cons:

urinating more frequently, couple of headaches.

I have only been on this medication for 3 weeks and I have already seen an imporovement. I'm on 25mg and I go in a week to get a stronger dose (50mg). I'm also currently using retin-A, and finecia. The combination of all 3 and cleansing my face every morning and night seems to really be helping. I do have old acne scars on my face and I'm looking into microdermabrasion! I even bought bare minerals (make-up) as a treat when I complete this process of clearer skin! I can't wait for this summer to have beautiful skin and not coat my face in make-up to hide myself!

Pros:

It worked for me when nothing else did. Cleared up my face, chest and back acne and drastically reduced the oiliness of my skin. This is better than anything I've ever taken for my acne.

Cons:

I urinate a little more than usual.

Nothing has worked for my like this! I had TERRIBLE acne on my face and back and this is the only thing that got rid of it. I still get the occasional breakout during that time of the month but it is completely tolerable. In response to ANRsays, I am also on Yaz and yes, if you take Spiro and Yaz together for a few months, you will have great skin!!!!!!!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
