Pros:

miraculous results, my skin cleared in 2 months on this drug!! The diuretic effect was great for PMT bloating and general water retention.

Cons:

Nothing, I did not experience any side effects on this drug and started on 100mg a day.

After having terrible congested skin for 15 years (I am now 30)my skin was so battle scarred and I was at my wits end thinking nothing was ever going to work. Over the years I have tried every acne medication, top brand glycolic cleansers, paid a fortune for micro dermabrasion to no avail. I tried the BC pill Yasmin and saw effects after 3 weeks but unfortunately had to go off it as it turned me into a complete raving lunatic. I went to the best dermatolagist in Sydney who specialises in Acne, she told me my type of acne comes from the INSIDE as it is hormonal and that is where you must treat it. She prescribed Spiro and I must say I am absolutely shocked at how well it works this stuff is a GODSEND!!!!! at last acne free skin.

I am 30 and have had "bad" skin since I was 15.I have been on the BCP for 15 years now and three moths ago I decide to take a break from them.Well"BAD" misteak. My face has been pimple zone for the last month. All I want to do is stay home and my self esteem has gone down the tubes!I went to see a great derm and he suggested I get a procedue done using levulan(sp)and light therapy. As well he prescribed me Yasmine and Spironolactone 100mg,and clindoxyl gel.For the last month I have been following his orders.Well I have seen no results. My face has these big under the surface pimples.I found this website and started reading to see if anyone has been going through the same.Anyhoo, =)Canada suggested using CLEARASIL ULTRA daily cleaner and CETAPHIL moisturizer.Today I see the results.I have started taking 200 mg of spironolactone every morning and in the evening wash with CLEARASIL, then CETAPHIL(wait for it to dry) and apply clindoxyl. I pray this is going to work.Thank-you =) Canada!!!

Pros:

Few side effects, amazing results!

Cons:

I'm afraid it'll stop working!
Diuretic affect in combo with yasmin sucks, but it's manageable and diminishes with time.

Spiro saved my skin! After a half-course of accutane (side effects made me stop), countless prescription/over the counter meds, and increasingly terrible cystic acne, research led me to discover spiro. My acne started at age 21 when I went from high-hormone bc pills/no period for 4 yrs to lower hormone pills and started having my period. Yasmin by itself did nothing for me, unfortunately, but when the doc added 100mg spiro/day to the regimen, in combination with benzaclin morning and tazorac/benzaclin pm, my skin cleared perfectly. Now people ask why my skin's so clear! I still get blackheads/zits, but overall it's amazing how the cysts and pimples vanished within less than two months (it's been a year now).

Pros:

affordable

Cons:

This product is a miracle!!I highly recommeded it. I have been suffering from severe acne for over 15 years and nothing worked. I have been to several different dermatologists, until finally one day I met one who perscribed me sprionolactone. This answered my prayers. 50mg of Sprionlolactone in conjuction with a Birth Control pill is highly effective. It takes at least 6weeks to see a significant improvement. But it is definitely worth the wait. Ever since i started taking it i have not had a pimple in two months. Ance is an internal problem not external. The topical meds make help acne but it will not cure it. Spironolactone will cure your acne. Trust me!!! and it's safe to take!!! and affordable!!! you don't have anything to lose. I wanted to share this helpful advice with anyone who is suffering from chronic acne!!

Pros:

I'm 49 yrs old, been on Spiro 50 mg 2xday for about 6 yrs. A godsend! I couldn't tolerate BC pills so that was out. No other treatment or RX worked. Spiro is magic for me. I occasionally stop to see if I've finally 'outgrown' it but not yet.

Spiro is a lifesaver and I'm THRILLED. People often comment on my lovely complexion--those words were NEVER heard in my life before using Spiro!!!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
