A more dangerous way of using benzoyl peroxide that studies show works a bit better than benzoyl peroxide alone. However, when used properly, benzoyl peroxide on its own can completely clear the skin without the addition of antibiotics.

Pros:

Really helps stop acne!!
I haven't had any new spots since I started using it a few weeks ago

Cons:

Price (even though my dermatologist gave me a card so I don't pay more than 25 dollars)
it dries out your skin (but benzoyl peroxide is famous for that)

Great product if benzoyl peroxide works for you, and I will happily keep lotion companies in business if it means being break out free.

Pros:

Prevents breakouts, you dont need to use a lot, gets rid of acne scars, actually works if you give it time, teaches you patients.

Cons:

it feels a little sticky on my skin, takes time, it works different for different people, makes my skin very dry.

Me and my brother have been using the clindoxyl gel for about a month and a half. It is improving my brothers acne a bit better then it is mine, but I can tell that its working. I like how it goes on easily and you don't need a lot of it so it will last a long time. And I like how you only need to use it once a day. It takes a little while to see the improvments but its worth waiting for.

Works Great!
It took about 5-6 months for Clindoxyl to start working, but after this initial period, it has been working wonders! I started the cream at the end of October, and by March by skin was absolutely perfect. During the first month or two, my skin was so irritated and super dry and red, but don't give up! You have to wait through that period and stick with it, because it'll be worth it. I used to have horrible acne on my chin and around my mouth, and I haven't had a pimple in months. Not even one. You can even skip a day or two of Clindoxyl and you'll still be fine. I suffer from food intolerance, and my skin was always super sensitive to food/alcohol, sweat, etc. but now it no longer is. I use this cream in the morning, paired with Differin cream in the evening (both prescriptions), and the combination is awesome. It makes my face feel a little bit dry, and it makes my skin a bit oilier, but nothing some moisturizer and powder can't fix. Would totally recommend! Don't give up if your skin isn't great in the first few months.

Pros:

-Cleared up acne
-Didn't break out at all since I started using it

Cons:

- Skin was so dry the first month, but not anymore
-Expensive
-Can bleach bedding/clothing (I let it dry for at least half an hour, so I didn't have any problem)

I have been using this product along with Differin for 6 months (still on my first tubes), and they are amazing! I've had maybe 2 pimples in that time frame, (it was my fault for missing a night) but was gone the next day. If you start using it, your skin will most likely get dry, and your acne could get worse. But that's because it's cleaning out what's in your pores. If you keep at it, the results will be worth it.

Pros:

Clears up acne
Less is more
Not too drying
Cost depending on insurance

Cons:

Bleaches fabrics
Takes a few weeks for skin to adjust

Acanya has been my little miracle when mixed with other acne fighting medications. I have suffered from acne for about 10 years now and nothing helped me get 99% clear. When putting Acanya with .05% tazorac gel and birth control, my acne has cleared up to basically 100%. I usually have persistant acne with at least one new break out everyday and with using Acanya I don't get new break outs. The 2.5% bp is subtle enough that it doesn't dry the skin out so much it's always chapped and the clindimyacin helps to fight p.acne bacteria. *If you are going to be put on Acanya be patient because it takes a few weeks for your skin to not be so red and irritated. Once it acclimates your skin will be flawless. Ask your derm. about gradually going onto it like every other day for the first 2 weeks and then use it every day!! I highly reccomend this product :]

Pros:

-worked very fastb within 2 days pimples shrunk to almost nothing.
-did not burn at all and will not rub off on pillow cases

Cons:

a little drying. that is why it is for spot treatment only! I only apply it to the actual visible pimples.

This product is for sot treatment I repeat DO NOT RUB ALL OVER THE FACE in areas where there is no pimple..Apply directly on the pimple and let it stay on there. Do not rub in other areas just dap on the pimples and leave on and you will get wonderful results :) anymore info contact cerine221@[link removed]

Pros:

~clears skin!

Cons:

~very drying
~a little irritating at first!

my dermatologist told me to use this as a spot treatment only in the mornings. it really helps a lot! when I first used this, my skin was red and irritated. I got used to it, and it doesn't bother me anymore! it does make your skin quite dry, so you'll need to get a good moisturizer. my dermatologist suggested Cetaphil daily facial moistuizer with SPF 15. I love it! (=

Pros:

Cleans problem areas fast
Reduces appearance of scarring
Reduces oil on skin surface
Deep cleans pores

Cons:

Contains a bleach product

I used it on my back, and the acne began to clear up very fast. There was a huge reduction in the spots where the most acne was (small of the back, shoulders, back of neck) and had little signs of peeling. Though the price was exorbitant for me, (MSP didn't cover it) it was well worth it. I am not afraid to show my back anymore.

Pros:

-Clears acne
-Prevents most breakouts
-'Zaps' zits away within a few days

Cons:

-Can be dry, I always use a moisturizer after putting on the gel
-Bleaches towels
-Can't be worn under makeup usually

This product works! It has done a great job of clearing up my problem areas. Seems to dry up and zap away zits within a few days. I rarely ever get blind pimples, but I got one a month ago or so and it even worked on that, it was gone in less than a week! You have to make sure you don't try popping or picking any pimples (which is hard for me) but if you can do that it DEFINITELY makes your skin look way better!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
