Pros:

Proactiv clears up my skin a little bit and makes my skin smooth within a week of use.

Cons:

You have to use it a couple times for your skin to get use to it I tred it for the first week only once a night.Try it that way too!

You have to be consistent! It dries out your skin so getting help from any moisturizer is helpful. i also see a dermatologist she gave me some pills (monocycline). It's good to talk to your doctor before starting any product he/she may give you a medication to work well with you proativ solution.GOOD LUCK!!

I love My Benzac gel!! It's so amazing I have mild acne along my t-zone. If I put it on any spots overnight they are almost gone by the morning! and i use an oil free moisturiser after so have no problems with peeling/dryness.

Buyer Beware!
I used proactive many years ago and had terrible experiences with their shady business practices, as well as their outdated methods, and lack of sophistication in resolving customer dissatisfaction. Many times I had called to cancel any further shipments (since you know they automatically send you tons of the product whether you need another shipment or not), and they would still bill my card and sometimes not even ship me the product. It became such a hassle I decided that I was done ordering from them. The product was fine, but the customer service was enough to send me in the opposite direction. Having recently moved to a new area my skin has changed, and I had just received a flyer in the mail for a special $14.95 for the whole system with free shipping, and you could send a check. I thought, uhoh, this is a great offer, and at least I have the peace of mind that if I send a check they cannot continue to charge money to a credit card. Even though my senses said DO NOT order from them. They are a company with no financial integrity... I sent the check in anyway to place the order. This was in January and I still have not received my order. (2 months later) I want to make it VERY clear that they had already cashed my check 3 days after I had mailed the check. I tried calling multiple people through customer service and well after being passed around to at least 5 people, including "managers". All Promised that someone would research this issue of the "lost check", and being told that someone would call me back. (which no body ever did). I was also told that there is no way to track check payments, and that they are sure that one day soon I will get a check reimbursed to me because Proactiv would never just keep somebody's money. I just laughed at that because if they couldn't ship me my product properly, how would they ever send me a check?. Ridiculous. Anyhow they basically told me that if I want to resolve this that ME, the CUSTOMER, who has already paid for a product I have not received, needs to do my own leg work. I need to get copies of the check, fax it in and hope that it gets resolved. I asked for the phone number to the billing department since I already have the check image on my online banking and I can email them or give all of the necessary information. To that I was told that there is NOT a phone number to call the billing department. What a fraud! I am not mad at the phone rep. as he is trained how to evade actually helping the customer get their money back. To me, it is NOT about the money, as I really don't care very much about $15. However it is simply the principle of the matter that you cannot deal straight with a company as disorganized as this one.

Worst Company Ever to deal with
I ordered a $19.95 offer from them and for some reason they used my same card and rebilled me for another month for $29.95 and I did not even receive the second order. When I contacted the company and I told them that i dont like the product and I want a refund, they said that your second order is on the way just go ahead and return it back to us and we will refund the money back in your account. they had sent me prepaid labels so I went ahead and returned the product back. I waited for a refund for a month but nothing came in my account, I called customer service and they said that we have not received anything back and that they will not return my money. I asked them to use the tracking from the shipping labels they mailed out to me, they said they dont track their returns, they simply send out return labels. Never received a refund and instead got another bill from them for $59.00 asking me to pay it. Dont buy this product, it does not work and if you give them your card number then you will be billed over and over again.

Pros:

None

Cons:

Makes your face VERY red.
Dries it out
Stings
Cost way too much money
After stoping use, acne got WAY worse.

Probably the worst decision I've ever made. It wasn't /that/ bad while using it, though certainly not nice. After two months, I saw no change, my face burned, peeled so bad I was more embarrassed then ever to go out in public, and made my face VERY red. So I stoped... Then my face got worse. Worse then it had ever been. I went from having, on average, about 5 pimples on my face, to having about 10, and far too many small ones to count. It's been two years now, and my face has still not recovered. If you're still going to take a shot with this product, just AVOID the Proactiv website. Everything bad you're heard about it is true, and you have no chance of being "the luck one" and not going thru it. Take my word, daily showers, lots of water, keeping your hair out of your face, and just a little bit of sun each day will do you much more good then this product can.

Pros:

None! This horrible product destroyed my skin.

Cons:

- Makes acne 1000000x WORSE than it already is.
Causes you to break out in a million painful white heads.
Makes skin inflamed and irritated.
Ruins skin tone
Makes skin flaky and blotchy

Thanks Proactive! I PAID $70 FOR THE SET AND NOW LOOK LIKE A LEPER. RIP OFF SCAM, STAY AWAY. Do not buy this product, it is a scam and only makes your acne worse and even harder to treat. I used to have frequent break outs and thought that this product would put an end to that. Instead it made my skin SO BAD that I look like a leper. After two days of using it (using it following all of this crap companies instructions) my face broke out in hundreds of tiny painful white heads that looked disgusting and hurt so much. Proactive has made my skin so bad that I never want to leave the house again. I have no idea how long it will take to clear up the damage proactive is done. It is better to have pimples than let that awful Proactive crap near your face because it makes your skin look so much worse than it did before.

Pros:

Inexpensive, very easy to use, works on face and body acne.

Cons:

wash is slightly runny.

I am 40 year old adult acne sufferer. I have had adult acne for 8 years and my face has not been completely clear in all that time. I have tried everything from proactive to retin-A, Glytone, clearasil, neutrogena, etc. Carly's really works for me and the soap is great. I also began using a knock off clarisonic brush with the soap after the treatment and that really works the blackheads up on chin and nose.

Pros:

It works for me with adult acne and for my kids with teen acne. It is easy to use and affordable. Love the free samples too.

Ever since I had acne as a teen-ager I have had to wear heavy make-up re-applied several times per day to try to hide the lumps and bumps of on-going adult acne continuing into my 40's. What a difference the scrub (and natural soap) have made for my skin. If I do not use them, I start to break-out. Thankful to have the product for my kids so they do not have to live with acne and can have "clear and smooth" skin.

Not harsh

This is my third post to acne.org for Carleys and my opinion has not changed whatsoever. I am a female construction worker and my skin takes a beating. From dirt/sweat buildup to excessive sun exposure and Carley's handles them all. I am an older female (50 yo) and I regularly developed acne cysts. After using many other products unsuccessfully I found Carleys and no more cysts, large pores or excessive dryness. Carleys is the best and I will 'NEVER' change from using this product to another.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
