Pros:

Cleared up my acne without drying my face

Cons:

Took about 6 months to clear on my acne

This is very effective in clearing up acne, especially if you get acne which is triggered from whiteheads. I used to get large cystic pimples on my t-zone and chin. You have to be patient as it took 6 months to clear up my acne. Also I used Benzac during the day on the problem areas. I still get acne (as I have severe oily skin - oily after 1 hour of washing my face) but only 1 pimple at a time now and it goes away very quickly.

Pros:

I can't believe it but my skin is clear, my scaring (red marks/purple) are gone! No more cysts or whiteheads!!

Cons:

It does take 3 months for it to work..please use this!!!!!! Still get some blackheads...

I have had moderate acne with periods of severe breaksouts. My acne consisted of cysts, whiteheads, blackheads. After a period of 6 months when 3 or more cysts were on my face a week, my derm signed me up for accutane. To maintain my skin before accutane the derm put me on clindamycin phosphate in the morning w/ BP 5% wash, at night differin .3 with DDF BP scrub. All my acne magically cleared got better in 3-4 weeks. Please try this before starting accutane, with the BP stuff too!!!!!

I used Differin Gel as prescribed by our Doctor for my multiple small pimples on my forehead and some on my cheeks. I applied even less than a week, my pimples have dried up and gone. Since then I always recommemded it to my friends and it really works.

Pros:

I just started using this product..so far so good!

Cons:

no cons as of yet.

I have been reading some of the other reviews. There are a few bad reviews where people have had painful skin or redness and peeling. My doctor advised me to gradually start using this product. For the first week I apply it for an hour befoer bed then wash it off. Second week 2 hours before bed then wash it off. Third week 3 hours befoer bed then wash off. Fourth week 4 hours befoer bed then wash off. By the 5th week your skin should be used to it enough to leave on while you sleep. I will let you know how it goes. Anyways if people are having bad reactiosn with it I think this method of slowly increasing the time it is on your skin is better than leaving it on your skin for the full time you sleep iniitially.

Pros:

I don't have a lot of acne all over. I get the huge, under-the-skin painful cysts on my chin at least once a month. I have very sensitive skin so I started using the 1% cream 6 months ago and I haven't had even 1 of those pimples since.

Cons:

It's very expensive. My insurance won't cover it, and it runs about $200 a tube. A tube has lasted me 6 months.

I would recommend this for anyone with an acne problem. I'm very happy with it.

Pros:

None!

Cons:

Expensive, so very expensive! Not worth the price at all. Does not work. Made my breakouts worse initially, as expected, but that's it. So I was left with worse acne than I had when I started Differin.

Save your money for BP. It might bleach your clothing, but it works better and it's cheaper! With the money you save, you can afford to invest in a top of the line moisturiser.

Pros:

clearing up my skin, more even

Cons:

Burns,

I have stress acne. My skin has become horrible due to pharmacy school. Red, broken out! I have very sensitive, dry skin. I started using it two weeks ago and my skin is more even. I do have some new break outs, redness, peeling but it is normal. It will go away with time. This product takes a long time to work but is worth it in the end. As a pharmacist I stand by this product. For people with moderate or worse acne you need to give it a long time (up to six months) and it will get worse before it gets better. I think this product works well when used properly and reading some of these reviews many are not using it correct hence the lack of results...

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
