Pros:

Worked very well in conjunction with a daily regimen of Benzaclin.

Cons:

My skin became slightly more photosensitive during treatment, but no big deal. As with any other topical treatment I've tried, my skin eventually became acclimated to this product and it lost its effectiveness.

Worth a try!

Pros:

make skin smooth

Cons:

Brings out all the hidden acne to the surface. I have been on differin for 8 weeks and it has brought out acne that I never had on my forehead and cheeks and chin. I must say after 8 weeks the right side of my face is clear. Just waiting for the rest

Hang in there. It does get worse before it gets better. Just think the extra bumps are temporary and clear smooth skin is about to emerge.

Pros:

Made my skin smooth when I used a cleanser with it. Most of my acne is gone, and I've been using this product for a month. Cleared most of my acne on my forhead which was biggest insecurity! Removed blemishes, smooth complextion.

Cons:

Differin gave me dry skin and peeling. I knew this before because the first time I used it,it was during school and my face peeled badly so i stopped using it. I'm using Differin now because it's the summer time and it's easier healing.

Bottom line, it's worth it even though the side affects aren't great. If you read the back of the box it says that for the next 2-4 weeks you will see redness, dryness, peeling etc. It's not as bad as what the comments above say and you should use it for 8 weeks to see significant results. (DO NOT WAX FACE) biggest regret, because a few minutes after waxing I saw this rash ..2 days later I have a reaaal noticable burn ..not fun.

Pros:

draws out impurities, gentle, don-drying, no smell, one tube lasts forever, reduces inflammation, lesser and smaller acne than before, can be put under or over other creams/topicals/spot treatments, easy to apply and remember to apply

Cons:

expensive i believe (i forget) hasn't gotten rid of all my acne, gets oily--only use at night, is not a spot treatment (doesn't treat existing acne), takes a while to work, doesn't work fantasically on its own

use it every night or else it won't work... it doesn't treat acne really, it brings things to the surface fast and clears them fast (shortens life span) and the zits are not red at all use with other stuff for full benefit has cleared me 85% without irritation
July 21, 2008

Pros:

It didn't cost me a lot of money. It cleared up a few pimples, but not a lot of them.

Cons:

My face was really red for about 2 weeks, i broke out in hives from the antibiotics that i took with it. Also it made my skin really dry.

I wouldn't use it, especially if it is summer because it can make your skin photosensitive. It did not work well

Pros:

It really does work! Trust me xD
My dermo gave me benzaderm to use it along with differin.

Cons:

Makes your face look HORRIBLE for the 1-3 months. Makes your skin peel moderately and sometimes skin will sting when applying moisturizers.

OK, people lets be real. When I first when to the dermatologist I was skeptical about this product didn't really think it would make much of a difference. Especially, the first 8 weeks into the treatment, Oh God, I wanted to cry. I looked so bad I had bumps ALL OVER my face =[ But when the 3rd month came around... My face became 90% clear!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it. Now for all of you just starting the treatment {JUST HANG IN THERE PLEASE} it takes time... It will all be over sooner than you know it. Think about the joy you'll feel when you wake up that morning and your face is clear! ::Smiles Brightly:: You'll feel like a new person ;D

Pros:

It seems to be working so far. Makes my skin a nice texture.

Cons:

First few weeks suck majorly, you have to keep it up though. My skin was really red and since its summer, I had to be in the sun, so it got really irritated. It got a little worse, but mainly just red and peely. It lasted like a week and a half.

I think its a good product. I'm using the differin gel .3% and thats it, I wash using Cetaphil. I can't wait to see how it looks in a few more months. I still got period pimples, but they went away in like 3-5 days, so its not bad. Just keep it up and use it every night, DONT use more than a pea size! Most of the people who are saying its bad probably didnt use it right. Do EACTLY as they say and it should be okay. Oh and its not very expensive at all and you get alot in one tube. But without insurance its too expensive.

Pros:

Works great for mu acne. The zits dry up faster and dont leave black scars like benzoyle peroxide.

Cons:

none

great product
July 3, 2008

Pros:

Cleared my skin better than any other medication has. Completely reduced all redness within about 3-4 days.

Cons:

I have very durable skin, that generally never scars or peels, however this has made my skin peel worse than it ever has. Make sure not use chemical sunscreen, but apply moisturizer throughout the day.

Probably the best thing to use if you has skin that has been resistant to all other over the counter products. I use Benzaclyn (check spelling) during the day, and differin at night, and its worked great for me. I did experience a small breakout when i first started using it, but not nearly as bad as past breakouts I've had without being on any medication. Make sure you only use an extremely small amount (ex. pea size amount on each cheek/forehead) and definitely stay out of the sunlight. So far I'm only a couple of weeks in and my skin has improved dramatically, however I'm guessing from other reviews that this greatly varies from person to person. Check with your doctor to get samples, before filing a prescription (they last a very long time) as if you don't have insurance it's going to be rather expensive.

Pros:

it works!

Cons:

took time to work..... got worse before it got better

my doctor prescribed differin, soldyn, and a benzoyl peroxide wash to clear my mild to moderate acne. during the first two weeks it worked really well with clearing up the pimples that i already had and prevented new ones from forming. However on the third week things took a turn for the worst, my face developed HUGE cysts that i never had before. to be fair, i had grown lax with the treatment b/c it had worked so well in the begining. however, i began using it religiously for the next few weeks and i am happy with the results. however my doc took me off the differin cream and put me on the gel... its stronger so i cant wait to see the results!!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
