Pros:

None

Cons:

Have stopped using it and still have scars

It made me breakout really bad and was supposedly supposed to get better within 8-12 weeks, but I had reached 12 weeks and it just left my skin with red blotchy spots and some scars. Avoid this item at all costs. Try benzoyl peroxide or tea tree oil products, especially dessert essence. They have helped me a lot but I still have scars.

Pros:

I don't see any pros. Other than the fact that it is affordable

Cons:

I had 3 bumps, mild acne and after I started using differin gel that was just the beginning of my depression. it made me brake out so bad and scared my face. I literally have pizza face now and it seem like it is getting worst

dont waste your time or money this is a horrible product. it will make you face worst and make you so depressed so if you love you self and confidence stay away from differin it sucks, and you will be stuck with bad skin using it

Pros:

Eventually gets rid of facial acne if used properly.

Cons:

Takes a long time to work. The first few weeks of using this product, it seemed like it caused me to breakout more. In time the breakouts stopped, but I still get one or two every now and then.

I had moderate facial acne. Initially dried the heck out of my skin and took forever to work. I am currently taking Doxycylin twice a day so I am not sure which treatment is more effective. Been on this for about 2 1/2 months now. I think I may want to switch to a stronger dose of this gel.

Pros:

Works like a charm; gets rid of every last spot.

Cons:

You have to use it moderately at first so that you don't peel.

So so so incredibly worth it. It was the only thing that worked for me AND several friends. Also, one tube lasts FOREVER. I have been using it for a year and haven't even gone through one tube.

Pros:

none

Cons:

made things much much worse.

I'm 8 weeks into using differin/benzamycin and my mild/moderate acne has turned into a bunch of nasty cystic acne getting worse every day. Supposedly it gets better if you use it for even longer but serisouly, 6 months for results on some people? thats just ridiculous. I would only recommend trying this if you really have tried almost everythning else. You're almost guaranteed a horrible experience for a few weeks (EVERY week since using it for me), with a slight chance of hope at the end (if you're lucky).... not a good call in my book

since everything else irritate my skin so much that i have to discontinue using this is the only product that has not, i will contiune to use it. im happy.

September 27, 2007

Pros:

Easily applied, no side effects

Cons:

Minimal if any clearing of the skin, doesn't feel or seem like its working

I have very oily skin and mild acne. This product hasn't done too much for me at all. I recently went to the dermatologist and am going on Accutane within the month, apparently since the Differin didn't work. It affects everyone differnently but my results weren't anywhere near my expectations. If you do decide to take this, use minimal gel. Good Luck!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
