A way of using benzoyl peroxide in combination with the topical retinoid, adapalene, that studies show works a bit better than benzoyl peroxide alone. Comes with side effects for the first weeks and can bleach fabric. Note: When used correctly, benzoyl peroxide on its own can completely clear the skin.

Pros:

The best thing about Epiduo is its a gel. This makes it really EASY to APPLY and ABSORB thus it works well on the skin. Epiduo just works. It's a new product and thus represents the best research (which accounts for the effectiveness of the benzoyl peroxide/adapalene combination).
Lastly, it has the perfect amount of active ingredients- 2.5% bp, .01% adapalene, so it dosen't irritate and actually heals acne. Not only does it cure future acne, the current stuff looks better too.

Cons:

When you begin Epiduo, start slow and use moisturixer. The benzoyl peroxide may otherwise dry or irritate, but this is only because Epiduo absorbs well and works.

I have used a lot of stuff, but non have been more effective or easy than Epiduo.

Pros:

Cleared my acne
Exfoliated my skin
It was free because my derm gave me a bunch of samples

Cons:

Made my skin look flaky
Initial breakout sucks!!

I want to say I'm also on doxycycline which together with the epiduo has Completly cleared my skin of acne ( I get a pimple or two a week before my period but nothing like before) my skin was clear up until march if 2012 then it went crazy and started popping up all over my face forehead, cheaks, chin, and they were NOT SMALL!! They where big ugly and painful, it's been 11 weeks since I started the epiduo and 13 weeks for the doxy and I am so relieved. You just gotta get though that initial breakout and you will get great results, I used ( and am still using)Cera Ve foaming facial cleanser Cera Ve day and night facial moisturizing lotion, I put the epiduo on before my Cera Ve night lotion and it's never stung or burnt bad at all. I do think acne treatment benefits from antibiotics like doxy or minocycline (solodyn) so you treat from the inside and out, I'm also an aesthetician and I definitely needed presciption meds for my skin, I could not deal with it myself, thanks, and don't stop it because of the initial breakout be patient and you will see results!!

Pros:

-Works great
-Gentle
-No pimples for 2 months

Cons:

-Must use at night (increases risk of skin cancer with skin exposure!)

When I turned 15, my skin got really bad. But after a year and a half of going through different products, I decided it was time to bring it up with my doctor. I wish I did it sooner. He prescribed me Epiduo and Duac. I had no dryness, and a couple months later, my scars are healing, and I haven't have a pimple in ages. It completely changed my life, and I have my old confidence back again.

Pros:

-Clears acne
-Also clears the acne fast
-Fades scars

Cons:

-Burning
-Dryness
-Peeling

I had horrible acne for YEARS. On my forehead, shoulders, cheeks and chin. I tried everything from Proactiv to Skin ID to Clean & Clear and NOTHING worked. I tried alot of topicals but they all just made my acne worse. I also tried antibiotics but one of them ended up compromising my liver which resulted in me not being able to take antibiotics and I did NOT want to go on accutane because I've heard it clears up acne but has problems with body organs. Anyways, in December my Dermatologist gave me 3 different topicals to try and I was hesitant because they all had bad initial break outs and I was breaking out bad as it was so more breakouts was like NOOOO! and For about a month I used nothing, just some random facewash. I then realized that something HAS to work. and I looked up reviews for Epiduo and I saw all these amazing reviews and thought, "I can get through the initial breakout. I can do this." I'm that girl who cakes on the coverup and hates going swimming because it washes off my coverup and I never sleepover peoples houses because I'm afraid they will be grossed out when we wake up because my acne was so bad. But I've been using Epiduo for a few weeks now and my scars are fading and my breakouts are going down and I'm THRILLED. My moms seeing changes and people at school are telling me how amazing my skin looks. I know this sounds like a cheesy proactiv commerical but I recommend Epiduo. Everyones skin type is different but I really believe that Epiduo will change your life. Espcially after loosing so much self esteem after being around my friends who have flawless skin, I can finally stop feeling so sorry for my self because of my skin and I can start feeling happy. :)

Pros:

clears up everything
evens out skin texture
reduces or removes redness

Cons:

dryness
flakiness
bit of burning
bleaches fabrics you might touch

MIRACLE WORKER!!! I have tried everything from Apple Cider Vinegar, Borax, to most prescription meds. I used to always have perfect skin up until a few years ago I got adult acne. Finally I just got a new family doctor who thought maybe it could be hormonal acne or acne rosacea and recommended tactuo (Canadian name for Epiduo) ... 3 days in and pretty much 90% of my face has cleared up and redness from acne spots are gone ... I dont care about the flakiness just needs to get rid of the skin around the acne spots the burning can be dealt with as well. I have switched to Cetaphil Daily Moisturizer SPF 15, and Bobbi Brown foundation and concealer as both are non-comedogenic and wont cause ance NOTE:::: LAY A WHITE TOWEL UNDER YOUR FACE WHEN YOU SLEEP AT NIGHT ... IT IS BLEACHING AND WILL RUIN YOUR SHEETS IF YOU DO NOT ... SAME WITH TOWELS USE ONLY WHITE ONE UNLESS YOU WANT COLOR REMOVED so far so good ... I will come and do another review to talk about its long term effectiveness

Pros:

-Got rid of my breakout
-Dried my acne up
-Easy to apply
-No stinging or burning sensation

Cons:

Nothing that I can think of.

I had a very bad breakout a month and a half ago. There wasn't a clear spot on my face at the time. I went to my primary doctor because appointments to the dermatologist takes forever and I needed some recommendations fast. She prescribed Epiduo, along with minocycline. I always had acne on my forehead, like it will never disappear. While on this medication, it completely cleared up, and I never thought it would but it did, as well for my cheeks. All that is left is some scars here and there. It took 3 weeks. You have to be patient with it, if not, you won't be able to see the final results. I do get a pimple here and there, but no major breakouts anymore, and I'll take that any day.

Pros:

BEST acne product I've EVER tried! My skin is flawless!

Cons:

It takes FOREVER to work but soooo worth it...it took about a good 6 months before my skin was flawless and it has stayed that way ever since! NO breakouts AT ALL! Also, in the beginning for the first couple of weeks be ready for some pretty intense redness and burning...but endure it...in the end it's worth it!

BEST acne product I have EVER used! I have tried EVERYTHING from Accutane, to Duac, to over the counter products, to Proactiv. Nothing has ever worked for me and I have never had completely clear skin until now! I am 28 and my skin is flawless! I will never be without this product! Ever!

Pros:

-cleared up most acne with doxy
-very effective

Cons:

-dried out my skin very badly
-hurt when had to apply
-made skin red
-still left behind red marks

It worked very well with the doxycycline I was taking but it didnt get rid of the red marks after the pimple. It had so maaany side effects but what I did was this: I took it for 2 weeks every day. Made acne worse. I stopped for 2 weeks and took natural stuff. Began applying very small amounts every second day. Its been working very well and has cleared up most of my acne within 2 weeks.

None yet.

I just started using this, along with Doxy and Aczone. So far, so good. My forehead is nearly clear with a little tiny bumps. Hopefully i don't go through those horrifying stories of "becoming great the first week," then, "worse than ever the third week." T.T Btw, I'm a 15/f

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
