Pros:

Prevents new pimples from forming, helps current pimples heal very quickly, and flatten out. Makes skin on your face smoother and red acne scars less noticeable.

Cons:

None!

Ironically, I started taking 50 mg of zinc once/day about 2 weeks ago to strengthen my immune system and I noticed that.....lo and behold, my face was clearing up! Coincidence? I think not! I've struggled with hormonal acne for the past couple of years. I get those giant cysts that last for months and are very painful, along with various whiteheads. I noticed that recently, I haven't had ANY new pimples form! I was shocked, because I've been breaking out continuously. I think that this was a great accident. If you have hormonal acne, zinc is definitely something worth looking into.

Pros:

Not only good for skin but great for the immune system

Cons:

can be upsetting to stomach

For those who get sick after zinc or other vitamins, try taking with food; many vitamins and minerals are fat-soluble and having food in the stomach will make all the difference

This really works! I started taking this about two weeks ago after finding out about it on the Internet. I was at the end of my rope. My cystic acne was so bad around my mouth that I didn't want to leave the house. I was so embarrassed. I would say towards the end of the first week, I could see a drastic difference. My acne cleared up and I could tell my skin was a lot less oily. Right now, I do have 2 pimples, but it is that time of the month and 2 is a lot better than 10! Also, when they do come, they don't stay very long. I will wake up and they will have shrunk considerably over night. I take 50mg/ day after dinner. No nausea at all. Like others, I wish I had found this years ago. I am 35 and have been struggling with acne since I was a teenager. If you are struggling with acne, try this! You don't have anything to lose.

Pros:

Helps acne heal quicker
Reduces oil production
Got rid of eczema as well
Helps with dandruff
Raises libido
Cheap

Cons:

Makes me nauseous
Have to take with food

I've used zinc for the last few months. I've read a lot of reports of people saying that they have gotten clear in just a few days. Even though I don't say that their statements aren't true, it has not worked for me that way. I saw results after a few weeks of using zinc. As far as I've been told, it will take new spots a month before they come up. So it is natural for zinc not to clear you in just a few days, as any acne treatment for that matter. I did try taking zinc before and usually I quit after a week or so, not seeing results and the zinc making me nauseous. For all those people that are experiencing the same, hang in there for just a few more weeks. My acne has gotten a whole lot better, especially on my back. I've noticed that the oiliness in my face is also greatly reduced. It has given me other benefits as well, helping my eczema and dandruff, and I've noticed an increased libido. The one thing I don't like about zinc is that is makes me nauseous every time, even a little bit if I take it with food. But for me, the benefits outweigh the nausea. I began taking 60 mg of Now Foods L-Optizinc (30 mg in the morning and 30mg in the evening), and after a few weeks I've lowered the dose to 30 mg, which is fine. I've tried other types of zinc in the past but they didn't seem to work as well as the Optizinc one. The cheapest I've found so far is on iHerb, the code UPU014 gives you a 5 dollar discount.

Pros:

Works!!

Cons:

Can be KILLER on an empty stomach- Take with food!

I have cystic acne and have since I was 18. I have been doing acne treatments for over year per the dermatologist to rid of my acne but it only seemed to get worse. The last visit I had they said they didn't know what to do & they suggested get on birth control and accutane (which I refused to go on accutane due to it's risks). I was at my wits end. I started taking zinc when my mom mentioned it to mentioned it worked on acne few weeks ago... within a week my acne was almost gone. My large bumps on my chins, jaw and cheeks started to decrease. They didn't even hurt!! I can't understand it or explain it. I am still taking the prescribed antibiotic and topicals until they run out but wow do see a difference with Zinc. I take 50 mg a day with a multi vitamin! I wish they had thought to checked my blood for how deficient I was in minerals and vitamins, instead of put me a thousand different topical creams and antibiotics. I am so happy and not nearly as embarrassed to go in public.

Pros:

when taken in doses of 30 mg twice daily in combo with birth control and 50 mg/day spironolactone, has cleared or significantly reduced the size of active pimples overnight or within a couple of days, ultimately clearing them within three days, max

Cons:

not sure if it is enough on its own to clear acne; also, not sure how effective zinc is on cystic acne, but likely will help due to anti-inflammatory properties

initially, I was able to control my moderate cystic acne with birth control; then, when I went off b.c. (not realizing it had been keeping my skin clear), the acne came back and would not respond to b.c., alone; next, i eradicated my acne using a combo of b.c. & antibiotics (Bactrim), but decided I should go off the a.b.'s after 5 months had passed to avoid possible damage to my immune system/liver/kidneys; before discontinuing the a.b.'s, though, I obtained an Rx for spironolactone (anti-androgen drug for hormonal acne), and after a cpl mo.s of both, I went off the antibiotics and was able to maintain 100% clear skin for almost 3 mo.s; around the end of the 3rd mo., began getting small pimples here and there and took a.b.'s (Bactrim) for 1 wk to clear them; then read about zinc and decided to increase my 30 mg daily dosage to 60 mg whenever i saw a new zit. this worked very well on the little pimples that were appearing on occasion. thus, instead of increasing my spiro dosage (which was not preferable due to diuretic and other more serious potential side effects) or continuing harmful antibiotics, i have been able to prevent/effectively treat any zits I now get with increased intake of zinc. : ) i do not suggest taking more than 60 mg (one 30 mg capsule of Twin Lab chelated zinc twice) daily, as it can be toxic to humans if taken in higher quantities. also, do not take it on an empty stomach, or you may make yourself nauseous

Pros:

- smaller pimples vanish
- redness goes away
- better complexion
- less pimples overall

Cons:

- do not overdose on zinc

Zinc is not the miracle cure for acne, but it sure does help!! I used to have a least a couple pimples on my face and right now I have none. I have been taking 50mg zinc daily for A MONTH and it has really helped so much! I feel better going outside now that my skin looks sooo much better! It really helps with the smaller pimples. I had some on my forehead, but they are all gone! My forehead is smooth and beautiful. If I do get a pimple, its like one and its not very big like they used to get.

Pros:

Reduces breakouts

Cons:

Its advised to take with food but I still get nausua for an hour after taking

I take a 50mg tablet once a day with food. Been taking on and off for the past couple months. When I started taking zinc I was seeing less breakouts within a week, but I was doing other treatments at the same time so I wasnt sure if it was the zinc, once I stopped taking the zinc I broke out more so I am back on it and have been seeing improvement. :)

Pros:

Very Cheap, seems to work, and Doesn't seem to carry much/any risk of negative side affects like making your acne worse.

Cons:

MUST take with food or you will start to feel really dizzy and sick to your stomach

I take half a 50mg pill in the morning and half at night before bed. I didn't really see instant results or anything but after a few months I am confident my acne is no where near as bad as it was before. I can't tell you with 100% certainty that it will work. But I will say it is definitely worth trying. paid $4.00 for 200 caplets
