good addition to skin routine
I started taking zinc gluconate tablets a couple of months ago now, they're not too expensive so I thought id give them a go instead of piling more products onto my skin. I live in the uk and got my tablets from Holland and Barrett , I have generally seen an improvement in my skin and the amount of breakouts I've been getting recently has reduced however its difficult for me to tell whether this is a result of the zinc or a combination of other factors as I've been altering my skincare routine a decent bit recently and introducing a few new products. overall I think it may have helped my skin at least a little and thats good enough for me. it might work better for you but since its not much of an investment ill probably keep taking them.

Pros:

Cheap
Breakouts heal/go down faster
Better immune system

Cons:

Horrible nausea (even when taken with meals)
No significant changes in frequency of breakouts

The bottom line is that this product is in no way a cure for acne. I think at best it is something to be incorporated into a topical regimen in order to give it a little extra push. Purchase with caution. Oh, and bring a barf bag for the nausea that is sure to come.

Pros:

Inexpensive.

Cons:

Didn't do anything.

Took 2x50mg daily for 2 months, noticed no difference. I doubt I was deficient to begin with but I thought I would give it a go anyway. Only made me feel nauseous if I left the pill on my tounge for a little while before swallowing and this feeling would only last a few seconds anyway.

Asking for help?
I need your help! Can Zinc cause an increase in DHT? I read that it boosts testosterone naturally. I've been taking 50 mgs of Zinc for months, and I dont think it helps... My acne is hormonal, I also take Saw Palmetto and I feel like that really helps. But I recently came across an article about testosterone and Zinc. And I'm confused. Was út a mistake to take the two supplements together? Did I boost my testosterone levels with mega doses of Zinc? (50 mgs daily, I'm a 50 kg girl). I stopped taking Zinc for a few days, but I'm really confused, and I havent found information on the internet that would help. Can you guys help me? My acne came back more severe after stopping birth control pills after 2,5 years. Input down the pill last June. Thank you for your help!

Zinc is supposed to balance the testosterone levels in your body but in excess it'll only increase the amount of testosterone your body produces. Homeopaths will usually recommend you take no more than 20mg of Zinc a day.

Pros:

I haven't had any luck with this at all. I've read so many good things about zinc but after a month of taking 50mg twice daily I've had no change in my acne.

Cons:

Losing hair

It hasn't worked for me, I guess I thought it would be some kinda miracle pill the way people have described it.

Well...

Pros:

Helps a little

I haven't taken it for THAT long but I believe it does help tame my acne. But definitely not just on it's own. You should still be using other things to help with your acne.

Pros:

+Less oily skin
+Brighter eyes.
+Acne and scars heal quickly.

Cons:

-Dry, sensitive hair.
-Sensitive skin.
-No significant change in acne.

I've been taking zinc 50mg for a while now, 4-5 times a week. I've noticed my eyes has a nice gleam now and my skin is less oily. However, my hair is drier and cannot be washed every day or else it will get frizzy throughout the day. I have not noticed a great change in my acne.

Pros:

IT DOES HELP WITH ACNE

Cons:

IT MAKES ME EXTREMELY NAUSEOUS EVERY TIME I USE IT. I HAVE TAKEN IT ON A FULL STOMACH AFTER DINNER AND I FEEL AS IF I AM GOING TO THROW UP. IT DID WORK FOR ME BUT I AM NOT GOING TO USE IT BECAUSE IT MAKES ME FEEL VERY SICK.

ITS GOOD, BUT NOT FOR ME.

Pros:

Seemed to help with acne, at least it did not break me out more

Cons:

Was still getting cysts / pustules back at the time, but this might have to do with my soap / hydrating cream.

Will give it another go now that I have changed my regimen.
