TERRIBLE!!! USE WITH CAUTION
After having flawless skin throughout my entire life, I became plagued with sudden adult acne at 23. I didn't know what was happening, but most likely hormones were to blame in my case since the acne seemed to flair around the time of my period. I came across a blog written by a girl who cured her adult acne by taking 30 mg of zinc for three months. Went ahead and got on a chelated form of zinc which is the most absorabed, worked fast in clearing the acne. However that honeymoon phase ended fairly early. After 1 month on 30 mg of zinc, I started losing my long thick hair, I began noticing tiny hairs on my chin and my skin and hair became extremely oily!! not to mention extreme fatigue and BONE PAIN!! turns out zinc deplet4es your body from iron and copper leaving you anemic. Without copper you cannot maintain strong bones and connective tissues, you can now hear my bone snapping every time I took a step. This stuff has ruined my life and messed up my hormones even worse. It also increases testosterone which is a major culprit for acne/oily skin and hirsutism. NEVER TAKE A MINERAL SUPPLEMENT without consulting a doctor first. I couldve never imagined the disastrous results from taking something that sounds as a simple mineral supplement. It has ruined my life.

Didn't work for me :-(

Pros:

Didn't experience any negative side effects

I began taking 25mg of chelated zinc gluconate for nearly two months & saw no difference in the improvement of my skin. I wanted it to help some of the back/chest acne I have after coming off the pill as it supposedly balances hormones, but I didn't want to take excessive amounts - unsure whether I should have taken 2 a day or it just wasn't effective for my hormonal skin?!

Worse time of my life

Cons:

Broke Out in Cysts

Broke out in places that I didnt had before using this for a few months. Made me very weak and sick. Large quarter sized bumps drooling off my face because of zinc. Zinc was bad for my skin and ruined skin more.

Pros:

None.

Cons:

I took chelated zinc supplements for 6 weeks, having read in a book ('the clear skin diet') that it helps acne. I didn't see any improvements in my skin, though, and ended up with a fairly severe iron deficiency at the end of 6 weeks. I later found out that zinc inhibits the absorption of iron, which explains why I started getting headaches, fatigued etc. whilst on these supplements.

Be very careful not to give yourself an iron deficiency by taking zinc. I personally think a multivitamin is the best option, as this ensures you're getting everything you need - zinc included.

Pros:

Not expensive. Must be good for other things but acne.

Cons:

Did not do anything for my acne.

When I was using this, I had severe acne. It did not do anything in the one month I used this. I think some of these holistic medications are overrated.

Pros:

None

Cons:

Makes your nauseous

I took Zinc for a few weeks and noticed no difference what so ever. Be careful because as everyone says, it makes your stomach turn, especially if you take it on empty!

Pros:

helps popped pimples heal faster

Cons:

doesn't seem to help prevent new pimples

I have not had a huge in improvement but I have just bought clearzine pills. Has anyone used these and know the results?

Pros:

may prevent other problems related to low zinc intake

Cons:

didn't help at all maybe made it worse and you have to take a pill every day

its probably not going to work so try something else first but i guess if you are out of options try this it didn't work for me but nothing else does either so maybe i'm just immune to almost any type of remedy
