Won't work without L-Cysteine & Vitamin C
Everytime I start taking B5 again, my acne worsens at first, that is until I add the the supplement L-Cysteine. Then it magically improves by 90%! L-Cysteine is an essential sulfur-containing amino acid which Vitamin B5 actually depletes. This is counterproductive towards fixing acne because Cysteine is the rate-limiting nutrient needed to produce Glutathione. Look up "low glutathione and acne" and start reading. Glutathione one of the body's master antioxidants and necessary for proper skin health. If anyone does not succeed at first, please try adding this supplement, they need to be taken together. It is important that L-cysteine is taken on an empty stomach because it competes for absorption with other amino acids (protein in foods). I take 750mg of B5 2x daily with at the minimum 3 grams of L-Cysteine. Also I recommend taking Vitamin C at the same time at L-cysteine, this also boosts glutathione and supports the Acetylation cycle, its great for your skin!

Pros:

Fast Results
No side effects
Cysts clear quickly
No new cyst formation
less Oil

Cons:

12 500mg capsules/day

My teenage daughter has suffered for acne for the last 4 years. Long term trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole therapy failed. My daughter started to suffer from nodulocystic acne. With a severity such that touching her face caused pain from nodules (everywhere, cheeks, chin, nose crease, forehead, even eyebrows and eyelids). Minocycline didn't help even after 1 month. We were considering accutane but concerned about IBS and Crohn's. Saw clinical studies about Patothenic Acid (B5). After 1 week at 4.5 grams daily (1.5g 3 times daily) improvement was evident. After the next week at 6g (2g 3 times daily) her face is remarkable. You would not believe it is the same girl. It may not work for everyone -- but it has for her. It is like a miracle. To keep surface acne down and keep comedones from forming, and also for scar remediation she is using BP and mild dermabrasion.

Pros:

Clear skin, less oil

Cons:

Tingly hands and feet

After three years on two grams of B5 per day I now have tingly hands and feet. More so the feet. Need to dowse then in cold water at night before I can sleep. This corresponds with what I have seen on other blogs after long term use. This was truly the magic bullet for me. All antibiotics over time decrease ones health level (mouth thrush etc...) and accutane was pure bloody poison (joint problems from three courses 15 years ago continue to get worse!!!!!!). I noticed the brilliant effects B5 after four months. I am glad I stuck with it. I lowered the dosage to what gave me a skin I could live with. Not perfect but I did not want to pop more pills. However, due to the tingly extremities I am now searching for a new treatment. Wish me luck!

Pros:

i only take 2 grams a day, so it is easy to take. (4 pills, two in AM, two in PM)

Cons:

nothing

i bought B in 500mg. 500mg+500mg=1000mg =1gram. so i take 2 pills, one gram, in the morning after breakfast & again at night after dinner or sometimes after mid day snack. it's pretty convenient. no side effects, no stomach weirdness or anything. i take B complex & antioxidant once every few days or when i remember. i also take 25mg of zinc with the B5 once or twice a day. it's super small, so it's easy too. i have been washing my face with eucerin gentle cleanser, then i use burt's bees herbal blemish stick all over my face & then i use an oil free moisturizer. my face had not been this clear for this long without anitbiotics & accutane. i feel happy & myself. i'll never take any antibiotics or crazy meds like accutane ever again.

best treatment I ever tried
I have never made a review about any acne product. I never even heard about B5 until a month ago so I decided to try it and It was the best treatment I ever tried by far. I had just tried retin-a and it was awful. I always only had mild acne but after trying retin-a I had the worst acne I ever had in my life. After 8 weeks of retin-a I gave up. It just never got any better and seemed to get even worse every week. I then switched to Pantothenic acid and it was the best thing I ever did. After 1 month, my skin is clearer than it's ever been. I'm amazed. After 20 years of trying every topical treatment you can think of, B5 is the first oral treatment I tried and so far it's the only thing that ever worked. I had a bump on the side of my face that had been there for years. It was just a bump, it was never red or all that noticeable but if I squeezed it some sebum would come out. It was pretty benign so I ignored it. After 2 weeks on B5, i squeezed it and a ton of sebum came out and it's now 2 weeks later and it's completely gone for the first time in probably 5 years. I take 7-8 grams of B5 a day and also take 50 mg of zinc. That's all I have done the last month and my skin is clearer than it's ever been. The B5 regimen should be the first thing you try. And I know some people worry about hair loss but I'm a guy and I have had no hair loss at all. In fact, there has been no side effects at all, even on the days when I tried 10-12 grams

For anyone reading this, please do not ignore spots or red marks etc that last for weeks and months, let alone years. Go to the doctor as some skin cancers can just look like spots. If it's not going away or bleeding and stuff then either make it go away or at least have the GP look at it. Acne should clear up (only to be replaced by another spot...sigh...)

Pros:

- Works quickly
- Effective
- Clears skin
- No side effects (for me)

Cons:

- High dosage required
- Expensive

I'm 16 years old and started developing acne when I was around 12. It started on my forehead but then moved down to my chin and cheeks as I grew older. The acne on my forehead disappeared due to diet, but the amount of acne on my chin and cheeks was embarrassing. My mum found Vitamin B5 and told me to take it, I mean why not - it was worth a shot. Within days the amount of acne I had went down and I felt so much better! I took around 4 x 500 mg and its stopped almost all my breakouts! Definitely recommend this :)

Pros:

- reduces oil
- reduces breakouts
- skin healing
- confidence booster

Cons:

- lots of pills to take
- expense

Got the 1000mg pills from Swiss, think I got 90 for 15$, so not to bad. Started taking these a week before frosh week and noticed minor break outs after a day or two. Nothing that serious but still little more then usual. Stuck it out. These went away after about a week. The next week was frosh week, and me and my friends went out drinking every night, eating terrible food, sweating, raging, and passed out every night without a shower, something that would normally break me out badly, but every morning I woke up amazed at how unfazed my skin was. I have also been smoking weed almost daily for the past two weeks, something that would also cause my skin to break out badly, but nothing. I'm going to chill out and eat healthy, get more than 3 hours of sleep a night and cut back on the drinking. Considering how good my skin is doing it will look amazing if I do all that. Basically, if my skin made it through these past 2 weeks with minimal break outs, this stuff is magic, and definitely a buy. Highly recommended by yours truly.

Pros:

subcutaneous cysts are flattened
blackheads are falling out
my skin looks fresh
special price for 3 bottles

Cons:

lots of capsules to swallow

It's a miracle that I never thought I would ever find! The only other time my skin was clean was during a round of accutane. This is unbelievable to me, I keep looking at my skin in the magnifying mirror and feeling the subcutaneous cysts. It has only been one week so I am thrilled to keep going and see how much everything will improve.

Pros:

My acne has cleared
My skin is less oily

Cons:

A lot of pills
A lot of trips to GNC

I love B5! I have had cystic acne since i was 13, I'm 24 now so its been a long, rough journey. I've used everything, but nothing worked except accutane which made me very depressed, enough to scare me away from it. I read the reviews on this website and decided to give B5 a try. My results weren't as immediate as most of the other reviewers, but after about a month i was completely clear. I have one zit right now, one! I've never been able to say that! It's so small and on my hairline i don't even think its noticeable. I also take 2 zinc pills a day, I originally tried zinc which reduced my oil but did nothing for the acne, i don't know if it's the zinc alone that's controlled the oil so I'm not going to stop taking them. I also take a multivitamin....a Flintstones chewable because they're yummy haha. I heard if you take too much zinc and don't take copper it can mess you up, so if you take zinc take a multivitamin too. I didn't experience any gas or diarrhea while taking this, i do mega dose, i take 12 B5 a day. The only thing left to deal with is the scarring, which is fading and concealer is fantastic when you don't have an actual bump to cover. I highly recommend this, with a gold card at GNC the cost isn't too bad. I' hope you guys have as much success with this as i did, because acne destroyed my confidence and i finally have it back. Good luck!

Vitamin B5 does work for acne.
I started supplementing/taking Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid) on the 17/03/2015 last month in March, and I can really see the visible difference in my skin so far - It looks calmer, smoother and more manageable. I am using the 500MG Time Release version from Holland and Barrett (Vitamin Health Shop in the UK). I have currently been taking this supplement for 36 days, and I can tell you that it does work, but you've got to take it for a while to see the full benefits of taking this vitamin for your acne. I'm going to stick with taking this vitamin for a few months, and I will update my progress with taking it on this forum. I'm proud to say that Vitamin B5 has worked for me.
