Pros:

My skin was darn close to completely clear within two days

Cons:

I had a horrible allergic reaction to this medication in the beginning everything was perfect, but about after a week and a half i had a sore throat, extreme itching all over my body you name it i itched from head to toe, swollen rashes on my faceetc

This medication was great in the beginning until i had an horrific allergic reaction about a week and a half of useing it. Which is strange because i have never had an allergic reaction to anything. So i would be very careful about that.

Pros:

Bad, bad cystic acne. After week of usage, acne began to "dry" up, but sores still raised from skin. Starting to see a change for the positive though.

Cons:

Trouble sleeping at night -- restless

Try it!! The combination of using Bactrim twice a day and then washing face at night with a soap-free wash and applying a prescription topical cream at night seems to be doing the trick. I have already received compliments of how my face seems to be clearing up. I hope this continues to work as my next step would be Accutane, which doesn't thrill me since that is quite an involved process.

Pros:

Worked better than anything I've ever used! Cleared up acne on face, neck, chest, and back within days.

Cons:

As soon as I stopped taking it, I broke out worse than before. I also think it gave me headaches.

It's good for some time with clear skin, and works well. But I don't think its safe to take for too long, and as soon as you stop taking it your acne gets worse.

Pros:

cleared up my acne a lot better than any other product i've tried

Cons:

i havent noticed too many side effects and i've been taking it for 7 months. my skin seems to be very oily.

i've tried many products the past 5 years that i've had moderate acne, and septra is by far the best that has worked. and ive tried everything except accutane. this product works very well most of the time, but certian weeks i will break out if i dont take it regularly. i also use klaron with it, which helps clear my skin. i was depressed for months because of my breakouts, but it has improved my skin and confidence a lot, and besides very small pimples and scars my skin is basically clear. my derm. said about 5 % have an allergic reaction, but i never had any side effects from this medicine. it just depends on the person, but i definately recommend it.

Pros:

Cleared me up after 2 weeks of treatment. After that, 1 pill a week for a year kept me clear.

Cons:

Acne returned after stopping treatment. Lots of potential side effects. I sunburned my shoulders while on Bactrim, 3 years later they have bad psoriasis(?).

For a quick fix for something important (wedding?), it might be worth trying. I won't use it again because of all the side effects. Even though I didn't notice many, staying on Bactrim permanently will do bad things to your body.

I have been on bactrim for almost 3 weeks now and my cystic breakouts have stopped. I started noticing the breakouts subsiding within a week. I was taking minocycline for about four weeks prior to bactrim and my acne just kept getting worse. Bactrim has done wonders so far. I had my third baby 4 months ago and I noticed I started having breakouts 8 weeks after giving birth. I am sure some of the causes of my acne could be due to my hormones trying to get back in balance from after having a baby, sleepless nights from getting up with baby, and just the overwhelmness of now being a mom to three versus two(My other two kids are 4 and 2 years of age). I have also been on Ortho-tricyclen bcp and spironolactone for 2 months now. I heard the combination of bcp and spironolactone has helped with acne and after I finish the bactrim, I hope that my acne doesn't come back as badly since I will still be on ortho-tri and spironolactone.

Effective short term solution
Before Accutane it reduced my problem from having nodules to a milder acne that was still over most of my face. After having taken Accutane twice, it essentially got rid of any acne that I had if I took when I got a nodule or started breaking out. However, it cannot be taken long term and one is advised to be very carful about UV exposure. I never experienced side effects although there are some potentially serious ones to worry about. It is an effective short term solution for me.
