Pros:

cleared up face to an extent (blackheads, 1-2 whiteheads, around 3-4 really bad breakouts during the year)

Cons:

long-term problems (liver)
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE breakouts once you're off!!!

if you're willing to risk your longterm health for clear skin that won't last, take it!!

Pros:

Cleared up my skin which has mild everything: white heads, black heads, cysts, etc.

Cons:

Not sure of it's safety long term, and you HAVE to be consistent

I took Bactrim DS twice a day for six years and my skin looked perfect! Maybe a small pimple once a week or month, but nothing major. I definitely noticed if I missed even one pill I'd break out every time though. I decided to stop because I was worried about being on it too long and I'm breaking out like crazy. :( Oh well, guess my time for clear skin is up!

Pros:

It clears up my skim pretty well. I still get a few pimples here and there, but the meds do kick my break outs in the butt.

Cons:

If you stop taking this med the break outs will worsen. Its a med you have to keep up on.

It works!

Pros:

My face was 1/2 clear.

Cons:

After 1 month, the dang stuff gave me a rash!!!

I had a little bit of nausea, fatigue.

My face wouldn't clear up all the way because my acne is HORMONAL. Once I got on some hormonal balancing cream, half my acne disappeared which explains why Bactrim was only able to help with some of my acne. What is not cool is the blue, spotty rash I've have on both my arms since 1-2 months ago when I stopped taking this stuff.

Pros:

clear up acne a little

Cons:

got hives!!

this worked well at first I think (although the clear up may simply have been a good time of the month hormone wise) but after 10 days of no side effects, I broke out into hives that took 4 days to go away.

Pros:

Clears everythinnnng up nicely
Cheap
Loss of appetite! ha

Cons:

Need to take 2 pills a day
Can have serious side effects due to allergic reactions
Takes about a month to see significant results

I've been on trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, Duac benzoyl peroxide, and Differin adapalene gel for a little over a month and I'm finally starting to see improvement. At first the acne flared up quite a bit which always has to happen anyway to heal unforseen lesions. I had mild acne on my back and chest, which cleared up right away and I haven't seen anything since I started the medication. My face is now the last to clear up, but it is clearing up soo nicely I'm actually excited.

Pros:

Clears face and keeps it that way.

Cons:

Makes my skin super-sensitive, especially to the sun. Also makes areas of my skin look slightly red and splotchy.

Works well and keeps you acne free, though there are side affects that people taking septra should know about.

Monocycline vs Ceptra

Pros:

fast acting
didn't make me sick!

Cons:

headaches
larger pill

I will be 30yrs old this Nov. & I've been dealing with acne my entire life. 2wks ago I mentioned to my doc that I can't stand it anymore. My face is always broke out, they leave horrible scars & to make it worse.. When it would start to clear up, It would only break out again. Also, I was getting horrible & painful ingrown hairs all over my legs. Being its now summer, I couldn't stand wearing pants all summer. So my doc said "let's try this medication called Monocycline for a week & if it works, we'll go from there." First few days were fine & noticed my face & legs starting to heal up. But then I started waking up in the morning, my hands & arms were tingling & swollen. At first thought maybe I slept wrong & had a pinched nerve. So had my husband rub my shoulders, it got a little better that day. But then the next few days the tingling got worst. One day when I was at work, (at Lowes) watering & attending to my plants & flowers as normal. I started sweating profusely, got dizzy, had a headache, my arms were tingling worse than the last few days. I just did NOT feel good at all. So I went home, went online & looked up symptoms of the medication. Sure enough, everything that was listed as serious, I was experiencing. After talking with my doc, we decided to start something new in a week. I've been on Septra for 3 days & already I can tell my acne & ingrown hairs diminishing. I have had a few headaches & joint pain, but that's something I'm used to. So, so far so good! Good luck to everyone & remember, not everyones body is the same! So for someone who had a horrible reaction, it could work great for another.

Pros:

Stopped getting larger sized pimples around the face. Pretty much controlled the big breakouts.

Cons:

The very small white pimples did not go away. Blemishes took forever to clear up. When I went from taking 2 to 1 a day my acne came back.

Age 22 - I took Bactrim twice daily for 2 months, definitely controlled the breakouts. However, I still had many very small pimples around my forehead and upper cheeks that did not go away. I went from taking 2 a day to 1 a day, and my breakouts came back. It was a good medicine, just stopped working after dropping the dose to once a day. Blemishes were harder to go away as well. I workout, drink plenty of water, and have a high protein diet. Not sure if its related to the medicine. Overall I would recommend it if you have an important in the coming months to get a clear face. Its also a pain to take it at the exact same time everyday. or every 10+ hrs.
