Pros:

-Destroyed all my acne
-Helped with oily skin

Cons:

-Anxiety
-Depression
-Stomach pain
-Mild sun sensitivity

After about 2 weeks or so, I started to get some mood swings time to time and some frequent anxiety attacks. I went to my doctor and she told me that there is no way that it could have been the meds so then i searched up the side effects. It turned out to be that one of the "Rare" side effect was depression and that not many people experience it. I've talked to some people and they said they had the same thing.

Pros:

-No new pimples in over a month!!
-Prevents hormonal, cystic acne
-Help with cyclic acne

Cons:

-Took over 2 months for it to work
-Not a permanent solution

I have been on Bactrim since Feb. 2011 and it's finally working well. I haven't had a pimple the past month, however, it did take 2 months for my existing and new acne to stop surfacing and become clear. It was slow-working for me, but with patience, it kicked in. Be sure to drink lots of water with the medication and also be sure to wear a hat or some sort of cover when out in the sun. It makes you very sun-sensitive! -Also, be sure to take a probiotic when taking this medicine. It is a very strong medicine and my Dr. said it was a step right below Accutane. Monitor your body and fluid intake while on this. This isn't a permanent cure, but once it kicks in (and that can take a few months for some people, like me), you will find relief for your acne. Good luck everyone!

Pros:

cheap w/ insurance

Cons:

side effects
didn't actually work

About 12 after taking my first Bactrim, I started to feel side effects. A lot of stuff listed in the booklet as "serious, contact your doctor": neck aches; lethargy; inexplicable bad mood; muscle pains. I contacted my doctor and she told me not to worry, so I stuck with the meds. After a few days of exhaustion and aching (which I quietly refuse to believe was just coincidental), the side effects died down, and I felt more or less fine. So the real problem is that Bactrim didn't do diddly for my acne. I have chronic cystic pimples on my chin, not numerous but huge and painful, and on Bactrim I never had less than one of these active at a time. What I'm really looking for out of an acne med is peace of mind--I want to cut the terrified mirror-checks out of my life. Bactrim didn't do that.

Pros:

Easy to Take
Cleared up acne within 1 week
Prevents Breakouts

Cons:

Have to take twice a day on an empty stomach
have to drink lots of water on it
Increased alcohol sensitivity

Ive been on accutane before, and my skin was clear for about 7 months after the treatment. But it started coming back lightly but it was really bothering me and i wanted to go back on accutane but my derm told me to try Bactim DS in combination with Aczone... and this stuff works! I think its a combo of both that works really good! So i would recommend trying both of these at the same time, its def worth a shot... the azcone can be pricey but ask your derm for a discount coupon thats what i did and it was a lot cheaper!

Hi! How long did it take to see results from both? (I know this was a long time ago but I'm about to start the same thing)

Pros:

Looks good so far. I have struggle with acne for 5 years and I am very self conscious about what I look like. So far my face looks pretty good.

Cons:

None yet

If you have tried everything else and don't want to go down the accutane path then I would recommend trimethoprim.

Pros:

Over 50% of my acne cleared up in the first week! It keeps getting better everyday! This is the only thing that has actually worked for me. Forget Differin, you need this.

Cons:

None so far

If you think there's no cure for your acne, think twice. This actually works.. You'll love it as much as I do no double about it.

Pros:

Got rid of the infection
Cheap even with no insurance

Cons:

Didn't get rid of it all but it was pretty bad

I only took this for 3 months but it did a decent job while I took it. I had horribly, huge cysts (half dollar size) and this helped with all the infection. All my cysts went down in size. Even more awesome, I didn't get yeast infections while on this. I still ended up on Accutane but this helped out a lot while I waited to get on Accutane.

Pros:

-IT WORKS!
-Inexpensive
-Relatively fast acting (took about 3 weeks for me)

Cons:

-Potential side-effects can be very serious possibly life-threatening (stephen-johnson syndrome)
-Pills are kind of large
-antibiotics eventually stop being effective after a while and you can build up an immunity to them.
-Blood test to check for an enzyme that could increase your risks for serious side effects

My acne was fairly severe although it could have been worse. The first drug I tried was Doxycycline and it worked for a little while (not quickly) but then it just stopped working. I have tried most OTC acne creams and also prescription ones....NONE of them worked. I got on birth control to try and help with my skin...it doesn't. I started taking Bactrim in March of this year and was extremely nervous because of the extensive research and some of the very scary and real side effects that come along with this drug. I did hours of research and poured over this site and the reviews over and over to try and make my decision. I decided to try it and see what happened. Well, I was very careful about knowing what the side effects were and watching my body to make sure I didn't have any symptoms. I recommend doing this in case some of the more serious side effects (Steven-johnsons syndrome) happens. It is important to get the blood tests necessary to determine whether it is safe for you to take this medicine. I would say that people should try this drug as a last resort only because of the potential life treatening side effects that people who are alergic to sulfides may experience. It DOES work but your health should be a first priority over the apprearance of your skin.
