Pros:

very effective, took it once a day 400mg bactrim roche . really works wonders, totally cleared my face from acne. battling acne for over 20 years. even tried accutane. i'm 37 y.o. started getting acne at age 15.

Cons:

no side effects whatsoever.. 400mg is tolerable

for me, it is like a discovery. i've been with accutance, all topical anti acne, doxy, minoxy etc... this is the only drug that works for me and cleared my face for one whole month. don't know what will happen next if my body will get used to it.

Pros:

Kept me ~80-90% clear for years

Cons:

Caused very painful kidney stones
Lost effectiveness over time

This was my mainstay for many years after having gone on all sorts of antibiotics, topicals, and accutane. It was by far the most effective antibiotic for me, with little to no immediate side effects like most others. But eventually (after a couple years) it caused recurring kidney stones. I suffered through many kidney stones over a couple years before figuring out it was this medication. My Docs were clueless that this could be a side effect (even though it is listed as a possible side effect online). Haven't had a stone since I've been off of it. It might be rare but a heads up for others that might be on this long term. Trust me, you wouldn't wish your worst enemy to pass a stone - it's that painful. That and the fact that it lost its effectiveness against the acne meant stopping treatment with Bactrim.

Pros:

Clears up chest and back acne wonderfully as well as face, cheap (I get the generic for Bactrim), doesn't make me sick/no real side effects

Cons:

Big pill is kind of annoying, be careful (wear sunscreen!) if you're outside for long periods of time

When I first started taking antibiotics for my acne I was put on doxycycline - and discovered I'm very, very allergic! Then I switched to another brand, which I cannot remember the name...it worked well. Sadly, one of the listed common side effects was nausea and boy it wasn't kidding - I felt sick almost every morning and threw up at least once a week. Not worth it! So, finally, I went to Bactrim. Amazing stuff. It does take at least a couple weeks for you to really notice but on the other hand, I never get sick! In fact other than the clearing of acne, I've noticed absolutely no side effects in taking it. I wish the pill was smaller, but I literally just take it with whatever I'm eating for breakfast...a bite of toast or whatnot, and it works fine. This stuff really helped my chest and back breakouts. Face got better with the help of prescription cleansers, but for my back/chest, within a couple weeks of taking Bactrim I noticed a HUGE improvement, and even though I've

Pros:

Cleared up my skin VERY quickly.

Cons:

Had a negative side effect on my anemia.

I had terrible back/face acne for about 2 years. I tried everything. Bactrim cleared up my face very quickly and left my skin feeling smooth. Not for people who have anemia, like my case, because it can dangerously lower platelets. Once I stopped using Bactrim though, I ended up back to where I started. Just a bit less severe.

Pros:

Incredibly effective, cheap and so far no side effects.

Cons:

It's an antibiotic so can't use indefinitely.

Allergic to Tetracycline and Minocycline so this was gonna be one of my last stops before the A word. Been taking it for about a month and I haven't been this clear for this long in 13 years. If you've tried everything else this is def. worth a shot before accutane.

Pros:

The best product I have found for Acne. Has cleared my skin completely been on it for about 2-3 months now. I recommend people to see a derm before your Acne get bad and you end up with scaring. If only I found this product earlier.

Cons:

Be careful of sun sensitivity. I just make sure i put on a good sunscreen like Clinique Super Defence for oily to oily skin every day.

Great product, go to a derm and find out if it is right for you!

Pros:

Cleared my acne. The best medication I've tried so far. I'm 35 and have suffered from acne since my teens. I've had constant acne and periods of

Cons:

None so far.

I've had acne since my teens and suffered quite large and uncomfortable breakouts throughout my 20s and 30's. At the worst of times, a day wouldn't go by without a new spot or several spots appearing.Big whiteheads that start deep within the skin...even in my 30s. Just the feeling of that under the skin itching made me feel like life wasn't worth living. I couldn't understand why I was still suffering even into my 30s. A large breakout happened during the spring/summer this year. I was extremely depressed about it. My GP to referred me to a dermatologist. When I saw the dermatologist he didn't want to let me have roaccutane due to my history of depression. I told him that acne was one of the causes of my depression and I doubted roaccutane would make my depression worse but he didn't seem to listen and prescribed this trimethoprim (300mg twice a day). I was pissed off with him for prescribing yet another antibiotic. 3 months in and I'm not getting any spots not even the tiny ones!

Pros:

About 6months ago I started breaking out severely! I tried everything, but nothing seemed to work, not even accutane. About 2 weeks ago I started taking Bactrim. My face is completely clear and cyst free!

Cons:

none for me

you MUST give it a try! I'm amazed at how quick this medication worked. Now Im following this regiment that is keeping my face clear: 1) taka Bactrim 2)wash face (am and pm) with Neutrogena oil free acne wash 3) Use Benxoyl Peroxide (am and pm), followed by a retinol lotion, I use Murad skin perfecting lotion. 4)Also, use a night cream that will help with the scars. I use DDF Nutrient K plus. I also found the most amazing make-up that will hide anything!!! you have to get it! Estee Lauder Maximun cover foundation OR, for something a little lighter, try Estee Lauder Double Matte. All I know is that it is worth the investment! It really boosted my self-esteem! so please try!
