Pros:

Seems to work very QUICKLY on moderate-severe cystic (in my case) acne.

Cons:

Derms don't like to prescribe it for extended periods of time because of the negative effects it can have on your body. That being said, I never experienced any side effects while on it.

I've done it all - Minocycline, Doxycycline, Tetracycline, Bactrim, Accutane (3 rounds), Prednisone, Yaz, and am currently taking Spironolactone. After each round of Accutane, my skin would be completely clear for 6-10 months, but eventually, my cystic acne would come back. *Cue any and all other antibiotics.* However, none of the 'cyclines' worked as well as Bactrim did for me. After 2-3 months, my skin looked amazing, but my derm wouldn't refill it-claiming it could have bad side effects on my kidneys/liver (can't remember which). So, I let a few months pass, some of which I barely left my house because my skin was so bad. Finally saw a new derm...now giving Spironolactone a try.

Pros:

the only thing that was worked for me.

Cons:

have to get lab work done.

my doc put me on differin, klaron, aminocin, and tazorac. the only medicine that worked for me is bactrim. i have to get lab work done every three months because i guess for some people it can lower your blood count (mine was always normal). it got rid of my cysts (i still have a couple once in awhile) and ive gotten so many compliments on my face. i have to take it 2 times a day but its worth it!

Good Stuff
Bactrim is the only antibiotic that got my skin back to almost clear in about 2 months. After 2 weeks of taking the medication, I stopped getting any underground pimples and only some superficial whiteheads every once in a while. It gave me no side effects and I luckily did not have an allergic reaction to it (which is something you really need to look out for when on this medication). I am weening off of it now that I started Isotretenoin about 20 days ago (1 pill a day) and I am really glad I had this in my system when starting accutane because my IB was very manageable. However, contrary to reviews I read on here, it took about 3-4 weeks to fully work for me rather than a week like some people have experienced. I would also like to mention that minocycline and doxycycline failed for me, so this was a real miracle worker in my eyes because other antibiotics made my acne worse it seemed.

Pros:

Worked effectively in the beginning

Cons:

Not a perfect solution

I am 44 and had a cystic breakout a year and a half ago that was more severe than anything I'd had in my teens/twenties. This acne is also causing some (minor) scarring. I take two pills a day (am/pm), but am also concerned on the long term effects of Bactrim and my liver (especially if you drink alcohol, like me!). It definitely helped for the first year but I'm now experiencing the same level of acne as before I started taking the medication.

Pros:

wow. have struggled with moderate to severe acne for years. have tried "everything". bactrim is extremely effective (i take 2 double strength pills a day) very few side effects (unless you are allergic)
my skin is completely clear (after 1 month!

Cons:

long-term antibiotic use is unhealthy; but my only other option was accutane, which is worse (actually started it but it made me feel like i was goin crazy)

give this a try. it is potent and can even clear persistant cysts (have used this in the past - each time with great results; but it does all come back pretty quickly if you stop)

Pros:

Helped tremendously decreas my acne and redness

Cons:

Could have sever allergic reactions - rash, fever, dizziness

I used this product for about 2 weeks and it did wonders to reduce my acne occurance and oilyness. However, after 2 weeks, I had a fever of 101, rash, and dizziness. I would give this product a shot because if you are not allergic, then it could do wonders. I had moderatly severe acne

Pros:

No more acne!

Cons:

Long term antibiotic use-must have some undesired effects. (Have not experienced any myself)
Have lost quite a bit of weight, but not complaining!

I had terrible acne which developed quite late, was 28 and it came without any warning! After trying everything I could i was prescribed Crime thoprim by my doctor. I didn't see the results straight away, but after about 2 months or so all my spots have vanished and i don't get new ones. I would recommend it to everyone!

Pros:

It clears up acne and if you stay on it, you will continue to stay clear for the most part. i was on it for almost 2 years and had very clear skin.

Cons:

after i went off of it for a few months I began to have mild breakouts which eventually got significantly worse.

it will help your acne, but it's not a long term solution. i'm 21 years old now. i'm hoping that i will grow out of my acne soon. hopefuly if i take this for another year I can go off without having any major breakouts. otherwise, i suppose i will have to go on accutane, even though i sincerely dread it. Good luck to everyone.

Pros:

Yup it sure cleared up body acne and facial lumps and bumps!

Cons:

Red rash that appears out of nowhere, I cant sleep! This stuff keeps me awake cos my body just aches after 2 weeks into this, im on the 800mg dosage. And man do my joints and muscles ache, headaches lots of headaches and you pretty much feel like poo

As a body builder, im currently fighting acne due to triggered hormones produced from all the exercise im doing. This stuff works but man do you feel like its working against you especially in the gym.
