Tea tree oil is defined by international standard ISO 4730 (2004) (“Oil of Melaleuca, Terpinen-4-ol type”), which specifies levels of 15 components, which are needed to define the oil as “tea tree oil.”

Among over 98 compounds contained in the oil, terpinen-4-ol is responsible for most of the antimicrobial activity.

Pros:

- worked quickly
- natural
- smells refreshing (that might be just me)
- cheap
- reduced red marks and old scars

Cons:

- skin felt oily
- stung a bit
- messy

I mixed a few drops with a dime sized portion of Ponds moisturizing cream. I left it on for an hour while i did some homework at night. But i felt like it might be too much for my skin and i didn't want to sleep all oily, so i washed it off. The next morning, my pimples were under control. My skin tone looked more even. The thing i liked the most was that my old acne scars had considerably faded. I think if i used this consistantly it would have worked. But its too messy and oily for my likes.

Pros:

dries it up and the spot doesnt comemup, great stuff

Cons:

sometimes after use the pimple would get really dry and stay there for weeks, ( just under the skin ) so use it but make sure you do it before the pus in the pimple has formed

its good, but dries skin

Pros:

clean feeling, inflammation goes down almost immedietely, pores are tighter and smaller

Cons:

some people say the smell is awful but i actually like it. it's like a menthol/eucalyptus smell.

i am 20 years old and i've had acne since i was 10. i have tried everything from proactive to toothpaste, oral and topical prescription medications, egg white masks and head and shoulder shampoo. i've tried all the home remedies and tried all the recommendations made by serveral dermatologists. i am allergic to benzoyl peroxide, so i have a hard time finding skin treatments gentle enough for my face. i wanted to try something natural, so i came across tea tree oil and decided to give it a try. (i'd tried it years ago, the body shop brand, and it didn't work) so i found some in a health food store and decided to give it a second chance.....the first night i put it on, it burned and turned my face red. and then about 10 minutes later, the redness calmed down and almost immedietly my acne looked better. i've been putting it on my face after my nightly shower when my pores are the most open, and i think my skin is improving. that's more than i can say about anything else i've tried!

Pros:

- cleared up skin by 75% (and more after every use)
- after application, skin feels all shook up

Cons:

- a little over drying if applied "neat"
- may draw a few whiteheads (but is better than red mountains imo)

I recently embarked on a natural face routine after I was struck down by the acne at 18. I am now 19 and the buggers are still present. At its worst, my face was red all over with large cystic acen and a few thousand white/blackheads. Now I jog every morning, eat more healthily, consume less fizzy drinks and stick to a strict routine concerning my face. After jog, immediately shower. Wash face with 100% tea tree oil soap. Rinse off. With cotton ball put some water on it with 3-6 drops of 100% pure tea tree oil and pat over affected areas. Pat dry, Spray with Avene Water Spray. Then dry my face via a fan (no pat dry). If a little dry, dab some jojoba oil on the flaky areas. Then bam! Clean feeling skin! Thank you very much !

Pros:

takes care of scars for good as well as any discoloration
treats mild to moderate cases of acne

Cons:

did not treat cystic acne had to resort to prescription drugs for that
leaves an oily film on my skin which surprised me

i was suffering from moderate to mild acne since my teens and had tried various things from prescription to home remedies and this was one of the best deals.i just use the body shop tea tree oil at night on my cheeks and acne prone areas and it seemed to work.however it is useless on cystic acnes that comes once in 2 months. moreover i also used the tea tree oil masks, scrub but it was not as effective as the oil

Pros:

Brings the size of the pimple down really well.

Cons:

Doesn't so much reduce the redness, well at least it doesn't overnight.

The tea tree oil when put directly on the zit after you've washed face will reduce the size of the pimple overnight. It takes longer for it to reduce the redness although I did notice some of my pimples were less red the next morning.

Pros:

Reduces inflammation fast.

Cons:

If used at the wrong time in the pimples "life" it can make it worse.

(This is for the 100%) Tea tree oil I've found is a bit tricky. You have to apply it when the pimple is at it's absolute worst. If you apply it too early or while it's going down, it gets irritated. I'm not saying this applies to everyone, because everyone reaccts to things differently. I'm just putting that out there ;-) Other than that, tea tree oil can be used for many things as my mother found and now she uses it more than I do for fading skin spots.

natural

Pros:

helps with painful zits
natural
does not irritate skin

Cons:

very strong smell
kind of pricey but its worth it

I use tea tree oil as a spot treatment. It helps with painful pimples to reduce redness and swelling. I have oily skin and the tea tree oil dried up the breakouts that i used it on. I have also used this face wash from the body shop that has tea tree oil and it helps to control breakouts really well.
