High dosage is high risk
I've been on different birth controls and pills for 15+ years, but I have NEVER had side effects like I had with this pill. I guess a high dosage pill (in this case estrogen) comes with the risk of more severe effects. I have never once before in my life had migraines or anything related to migraines. On Estelle 35 I had daily migraines that were so severe I could only lay in bed in the dark and cry from the pain. It started a few days after I started this pill, and they haven't come back since (over a year ago). I gave it a total of 3 weeks before deciding to stop torturing myself. On top of that, this pill has been linked to long term severe health issues - proven! It is banned in many other Western countries! Ladies there are so many less harmful effective birth control options, and smooth skin is not worth your life. Stop accepting this pill and the people who produce and prescribe it in spite of proven links to blood clots and other life threatening conditions.

Pros:

cleared up most of my acne
glowing skin

Cons:

WEIGHT GAIN!
moood swings
nausea & vomitting (morning sickness)

please please stay away from this product! I am here to give you my story from personal experience. I have been slim my whole life as I play alot of sports and am very active. I switched to this birth control because my doc said it would also help clear my acne- it did. HOWEVER, this pill made me very sick. I would wake up about once a week and not be able to keep my breakfast down. I tried taking it at different times with different foods NOTHING stopped it. I also gained about 15 pounds in 6 months, which is weird because I play competitive soccer and dance! Overall please trust me there are much better bc pills out there that will deliver the same results! I forgot to mention- after I finally stopped taking this pill my acne came back worse then before! (it wasnt too bad before hand) but I started getting cystic acne after stopping this medication. please please stay away from this!

Worked but had terrible side effects

Pros:

Cleared my skin

Cons:

Terrible migraine attacks
Mood swings, became overly sensitive

I've had acne since I was 14, so I was desperate to try anything to get rid of it. Two years ago, I heard about how Diane 35 can solve acne problems so I tried it. I agree with what some people have said here -- it does work wonders. It cleared up my skin like no product has done before. However, I also had migraine attacks often, splitting headaches that wouldn't go away. I couldn't work, I couldn't concentrate. I've never had them before. I also noticed that I became edgy and sensitive. I would cry over the smallest things. Sometimes I felt sad for no reason. My boyfriend noticed it, too, and it often caused fights between us. After three months, I decided to stop using Diane 35 because I couldn't take the migraines anymore, I was so unproductive at work whenever I had them. After I went off the pill, I immediately noticed that I felt better. No headaches, no mood swings, my disposition became better overall. Unfortunately, I broke out again when I stopped, but I was willing to accept that. I wouldn't trade my sanity for clear skin. It's just not worth the risk. There are better treatments out there.

Pros:

Cleared skin (but only as long as you take it)

Cons:

Extreme mood swings
Fatigue
Nausea
Migraines
Total loss of libido
Increased appetite (gained at a rate of 1 lb per month for 24 months)
Bloating
Sharp pains in my calves
Depression
Inability to focus
Crying spells

This medication pretty much ruined my life for the past two years. When I stopped taking it all of the above symptoms really decreased. I didn't get my period for 6 months after I stopped taking it. When my body finally clued in and started producing hormones, it was predominantly male hormones. So I developed terrible acne 20x worse than I had ever had in my life. Not only that but I also began growing facial hair, ON MY CHEEKS. It was like a peach fuzzy all over my face that made it look dirty. To h*ll with this stuff. What a freaking nightmare. Before Diane-35 I was athletic, happy and pretty. After Diane-35 I had gained 25 lbs, was depressed, hated myself and was starting to look like my brother. If you're acne isn't severe, don't risk it. It fosters dependency on this medication. For anyone giving this drug a good review and hasn't tried to get off of it yet, I'm willing to bet that most of you will eventually change your tune.

Please advise
My doctor just prescribed this medicine for me (Diane 35). I've never tried anything like this before. I have acne, extra hair on my chin area, and my period is irregular. I am only worried this will make me gain a lot of weight. Also, I'm worried it will affect my mood and sleeping. Please help me out with the symptoms.

It is called PCOS -- Otherwise known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. You have all the symptoms (I thought I had it so I saw my gyno) I reccomend you get a referral to see one, so they can check you out! They can check your hormone balance and see if you have any cysts on your ovaries which is most likely causing ur symptoms. good luck x

Pros:

lighter periods, less oily skin, no babies

Cons:

mood swings, blood clodding, sensitive breasts,

Girls, don't use these pills, really! I've been taking them for about 6 months and planned to continue taking them cause my face did get better after 3-4 months of using, but then i was diagnosed with pulmonary embolism - which was a blood clod in my lungs caused by these pills. I'm lucky i get out of it alive. So i'll be taking another pills for almost a year to get back to normal again. Also, the moment i stopped taking Diane, the acne came back again.. It's really not worth risking your health for this. In meanwhile i switched to OCM and more healthier way of living and that's sure the best way to clear acne and stay healthy. I wouldn't recommend Diane, nor any birth control pills whatsoever. It was really bad for me. But if you plan taking ones, check with your doctor about the hormonal status and everything and do every possible test to make sure your body can handle them, cause they can do some serious damage

Won't continue this product

Pros:

Less oily skin
Effective contraceptive

Cons:

Larger, sensitive boobs
Cramps and bleeding through entire pack
Mood swings, depression, migraines

I didn't really give this pill a chance because I don't think that I could have dealt with the effects a second time around. I went through only one pack so I obviously saw no change in my acne, except the fact that it got worse for the first few days, then went back to its normal state. My boobs got really full and sensitive, my bras didn't even fit properly. I thought that would go away, but it lasted the entire 21 days and so did the bleeding. It was not as heavy as a period but it was definitely heavier than the occasional spotting. I had cramps and felt like I was on my period during the entire 3 weeks. The pill also made me really sensitive and sometimes I cried for no reason at all. I also felt so depressed that I did not even want to go to work. I felt tired throughout the day, and found it hard to focus at my job. I'm 21 and I've only had a migraine once in my life, when I started taking Diane I would have migraines at least twice a week, every week. I don't know if my body would have adjusted or became accustomed to the pill by the second pack, but I was not willing to try it again. The only advantages that I found with this pill was less oily skin and it was an effective contraceptive. I guess everyone's body is different because it works really well with a friend of mine who's been on it for 11 years. I however, would not recommend this product to anyone.

Pros:

- regular periods
- didn't get as many pimples on my forehead and cheeks.

Cons:

- craved foods id never craved before
- increased appetite
- didn't feel myself, i felt moody and cranky for no reason. id have to ask myself what i was even upset about when i felt upset
- headaches sometimes lasting two days
- nausea on and off during the day
- felt no motivation to exercise
- thrush
- bigger boobs, very sore and tender.

I have been on Estelle 35 ed, the generic brand of Diane 35, for 2 months, about to start my third packet in 3 days. I am a 20 year old girl, very fit and active. But for the past month particularly (when estelle really started to kick in) I have felt so off. I have felt really unwell and sluggish. SO tired, nauseas, headaches, sore muscles. And i have been craving foods i never have liked. I am usually so careful with my diet. But i have been eating non-stop! Just ravenous and the cravings are crazy. I got thrush which has only happend once before when i tried Yaz when i was 18. So all these symptoms are definitely from Estelle. I have been using Differin, which is a topical skin treatment and i think thats what has helped my skin. Because i havent noticed any real difference. It has only been 2 months so im sure if i waited and kept going with Estelle that eventually it may help but i cannot deal with the symptoms im getting. I feel like a completely different person. I read all the previous reviews on this page when i was in my first month of estelle and poo hooed it all i guess. But by my second month i can totally see where all these women are coming from. I cant even explain it but i am just not me. I am exhausted, cranky and feel generally unwell a lot of the time. I went and got a blood test to check if it was something else but i am healthy. it is all from the pill. Bottom line- It may agree with some people, but it certainly isnt agreeing with me. This is all about trial and error..so i will just have to try something else.

Dry, flaky, itchy red skin!
I didn't have bad acne to begin with but as a 23 year old, I just got sick of still having pimples. My doctor prescribed me Diane 35 and from that moment is when life became hell, well for my skin anyway. The first three months broke me out so much - which seems to be the norm looking at other reviews. After the initial 3 months, my skin started clearing up however I was left with so many scars. Around the 5th month I stopped producing oil (I have oily sensitive skin normally) and my skin became so dry. 6th month and it was so irritated and flaky! I haven't gone off Diane 35 yet as I know that will break me out again. The struggles are real.

I would never recommend this.
I am 17 years old and have had medium to severe acne since I was 11. I have tried everything out there, prescription, non-prescription, high-risk, home remedies, laser treatment and nothing has worked. nothing. My doctor suggested I go on birth control (For migraines and terrible menstrual pains) but he said it would help with my acne too. This made my skin break out into terribly huge painful cystic pimples. Everywhere. On my shoulders, back, chest, and on places in my face that weren't affected by acne before. I tried the full three months I had been prescirbed for, hoping that it would get better but it didn't at all. My period cramps were so painful I couldn't walk. My face was so oily and painful I didn't want to leave my house from embarrasment. And I had extreme mood swings and depression during and since I have stopped Diane-35. My period cramps have only gotten worse since I have stopped, and my acne is just as bad or worse than while I was on Diane-35. This product messed with my hormones so much that nothing has worked to get it back to normal. I stopped talking it 5 months ago.
