The BEST thing for me :)
I'm now on the non name brand of this (Co-cyprindiol) for the 2nd time and this is honestly the best thing for me. I first went to the doctors with acne around 10 years ago and tried many different anti-biotics and creams for years before they tried this. I've never known anything clear up my skin SO FAST. The results even seemed to last after i stopped for a while. It was only a year into having my implant that i started with breakouts again, this time HUGE, angry cystic acne. Over the course of 18 months i tried more anti-biotics again to no avail. So I got my implant removed and went back onto Co-cyprindiol. Currently on my fourth month and my skin is looking fantastic! I still have some scarring to clear up which i'm using a Vitamin E oil to do and this seems to be helping. I'm hoping that being on this for a year will kick the acne's butt for good and that I'll be able to go back to using a pill with less risks (as far as I am aware there is a higher risk of blood clotting with this one?) It may not work for everyone but if you're getting to the end of your tether i would DEFINITELY recommend at least giving this a shot. :)

Not a permanent solution
I took dianette for 2 years and my acne cleared up but then I took a break with the advice of my GP let's just say it was a big mistake. My acne is back and worse than before. Now looking for a more permanent solution :(

Hi, have you changed to YASMIN? My doctor told me that once my skin is cleared by using dianette (Il be on it 1 year) she will put me on yasmin as this isnt as strong but controls the acne and stops it from coming back. If your acne has come back you should go back on dianette until it clears again then go on Yasmin. Hope this helped

Cleared up my acne

Pros:

Cleared acne perfectly
Bigger breasts

Cons:

Took 3 months to work
Weight gain
Horrendous initial breakouts

Dianette has cleared my hormonal acne beautifully. However this took about 3 months and in those 3 months I broke out terribly, losing hope it would work for me several times but it eventually did work. I haven't had a spot in over a month and I used to breakout daily! Here in the UK you can only be prescribed it for a few months and will have to switch to a different BCP soon but I hope this won't make my acne come back. If you are taking dianette, be patient. It does work but takes a while.

I don't even want to give it 1 star!

Pros:

Cleared skin up within 3 months
Gave me big boobs!

Cons:

Made me miserable
awful side effects when coming off
Increase in weight

I started suffering from acne when i was about 13 years old. After a couple of years of 'dealing' with it my mum took me to the dr's to see what could be done. He put me on Dianette straight away and i stayed on it for the next 14 years!! It cleared my acne up within about 3 months and i thought it was the best thing ever. My boobs got huuuge and i put on a bit weight which i could handle at the time. 10 years later i met my now current boyfriend who, after a few months of being with him made a few comments about my mood swings, not so high sex drive and general unhappiness. I'd never noticed it before, i guess because i'd been on it for such a long time and from a very young age. I ignored his comments for a while but after 3 years he told me he couldn't handle it anymore and either i come off Dianette or try a different one or the relationship is over. I stopped taking the pill in December 2012....after about a month my hair got super greasy and started to fall out in clumps. My spots returned with a vengeance, massive cysts along my jawline and neck, small bumps covering my forehead. I must have cried for about 2weeks solid. This continued for about 6 months but i persevered. i probably lost about half of my hair within the 6 months...it was devastating! However back in August something changed...it felt like a huge weight has been lifted, i'm so happy for no reason whatsoever! My hair has stopped falling out and i have a lot of regrowth coming through. I still get a couple of spots but i'm happy to accept them! My sex drive is crazy, i'm happy and positive about life and i honestly cannot remember ever feeling like this. It makes me angry as i can't help but think i have wasted alot of years being unhappy and negative whereas if i never went on Dianette in the first place could my life have been different?? For anybody contemplating going on this pill i would strongly recommend you try everything else possible first

Long term use with no problems

Pros:

Reduces androgen levels
Helps clear up acne, although not completely
Available on the NHS

Cons:

Takes time to positively impact acne
Relatively limited benefit for facial hair in my experience
No negative side effects as far as i am aware, even after long-term use

I was prescribed Dianette when i was 17 as a method of birth control and to help with the symptoms of PCOS, especially acne and facial hair. I have stayed on it ever since and i am now 35. I have never had any problems with it and use it as a contraceptive as well as to reduce my androgen levels. It didn't entirely eradicate my acne or my facial hair, so i was prescribed Roaccutaine for my skin (worked but TERRIBLE side effects and the acne returned) and i have spent a small fortune privately on laser hair removal for my face, which helps but ultimately the hair still grows back, albeit less coarse. Having been on Dianette for 18 years i am reluctant to come off as my androgen levels are still above normal and I can't face (pardon the pun!) the thought of my skin and hairiness getting worse. I havent had the side effects that some reviewers mention as far as I know and if you've lived with a hairy, spotty face before, you'll understand my reluctance to mess with my hormones again now that things are relatively stable and the spots and hair are at a level I can manage. On balance, i would say it is worth giving it a go, just be patient as it really does take a few months to have an impact on acne and even longer for hirsutism. All the best!

Pros:

cleared skin in less than a month
no side effects
less greasy hair

Cons:

none

I first tried dianette 9 years ago after having terrible skin for yrs. I had tried everythin else so wasnt expecting results but within 3 and a half weeks my skin was almost clear, I ws amazed and gutted that I had not tried this when I was 16 so I wouldnt have been left with any marks on my skin. I have been on and off it over the past 9 yrs, my skin becomes my greasy and spotty when I come off it but nothin even close to how it used to be. I was off it there for 6 months and developed back and chest acne which ive never had before so now im back on it for 2 months to clear it up before my summer hols. Last time when I switched to yasmin it gave me terrible break outs around my jawline so I had to go back on dianette to clear up the damage that yasmin caused. There may be higher health risks involved with dianette but they are small and im certainly willing to take them to have gorgeous blemish free skin!

Pros:

-It can allow you to experience good moods more often than not.
-May reduce hormonal acne (not clear it up)

Cons:

-It may very well plummet your mood.
-May not have any effect on your hormonal acne at some points during treatment.
-Weight gain/loss
-Extreme loss of appetite and serious weight loss paired with horrible 8 month long bad flare-up period after coming off of it.
-Possible development of spider veins/visible veins on legs

This stuff is a short term solution that may leave you with worse break outs than you started out with. There are better methods, but everyone is different, so talk to your derm about it.

Pros:

Has started to reduce hirsutism (excess hair) already after 2 months. Has increased breast size. Good contraceptive. Can kick start a normal cycle/pattern of menstruation

Cons:

Slight nausea. It is not preferable for long term (but no hormonal contraceptive is). Dianette can increase your appetite but if you eat healthily you should not gain much weight. If you have severe acne and gain weight rapidly you may have PCOS

Dianette is helping with my hirsutism as I have PCOS of a very slight form. I have never had acne in my life so cannot comment on that aspect of it. I requested this contraceptive from my GP as it is best to reduce excess hair. As a midwife I have an understanding of how the drug works and the risks associated. ALL contraceptives have risks and dianette is no different to the other forms. I would not recommend anyone to be on any contraceptive long term without fully understanding the possible implications. I only plan to be on this drug for a maximum of 6 months to regulate my cycle.

Pros:

-Reduced Acne
-Reduced body hair

Cons:

-Massive weight gain
-Becoming tired and emotional
-Increased risk of blood clots

Having being diagnosed with PCOS, I noticed a huge difference in the first couple of months on embarking on this pill. My skin cleared up and was less oily and greasy than before. I was also pleased with how well the excessive body hair had reduced dramatically. However, I found that my appetite soared and therefore I gained almost 2 stone in weight! I actually never made the connection until I changed the type of pill I was taking and noticed the weight loss after about a month or so. My mood was really low too. I don't think I would recommend this pill to readers. Despite my initial symptoms of acne and hirsutism almost completely disappearing, the cons really outweighed the pros for me. Unlike other postings I have read, my acne has not returned -I suspect this might be due to the new pill I'm taking, Cileste. My advice is to speak to your Doctor for alternative forms of medication for acne prior to taking Dianette.
