Pros:

Cleared up skin completely
Bigger breasts
Less painful periods at first
Free on the NHS
More confidence from clearer skin

Cons:

Severe PMS (severe iritability and anxiety)
Extremely painful periods after a few months
Dry skin
Slight weight gain

I have had side effects but at the end of the day my skin is clear. Now I have no spots on my face and back. I've had acne for years and I'm just happy that it's finally gone. The main thing for me is that I feel that anyone with a mental health problem (e.g depression, generalised anxiety disorder) or has had a mental health problem should think twice about using this tablet as it severly affects your moods.

Pros:

I had tried everything and nothing had worked. I had moderate acne made worse with CSP (compulsive skin picking). This made my skin less oily and is free unlike everythinge else.

Cons:

Slight weight gain, makes you very dependant and scared of coming off it. Only prevention not a cure. After 3 years I came off it, got acne x 100 and begged to go back on it.

It never completely cleared up my skin. I started it when I was 20 and have only just come off it at 33 (1 month ago)! My skin has been clear for over a year and I'm hoping it's more to do with my age. But I will be keeping a close eye on any skin changes. A couple of things I have noticed is that I have a crazed sex drive now - had no idea my sex drive had gone down so much! Also I am less hungry all the time. I would only recommend this pill if you are truly desparate. Acne can make you so depressed, you just have to weigh up the pros and cons. I think it's best to see if you grow out of it rather than becoming dependant ona drug.

Pros:

Skin ess oily and takes longer to get oily throughout the day, less spots, scars are getting a chance to heal, not really any side effects

Cons:

Really really scared of what will happen when i cme off it - not looking forward to that

Ive been using this for 3 months and after reading other womens posts on this drug, i would say its a short term fix, it gives u a nice break from acne for a while. My skin is the clearest its been in a long while. I've not been able to quit the make up just yet, but im getting there - and my boyf's noticed too!

Its not for everyone - but we are all different...
At 39 and years of moderate acne, I have started Dianette along with Oxytetracyclin. I am sick of feeling ugly and spotty and I was becoming obsessed with my skin. I felt people were looking at my spots and not at me. I tried everything and spent hundred of pounds on treatments and products! I think if you are going to get acne there is nothing you can do. It isn't down to what you eat, its your physical make up/the way you are! I've been on Oxy for 6 weeks now and have just finished my first pack of Dianette. I'm not sure what I think which is why I'm reading these reviews!! in the first week my skin was amazing,,,,,happy wasnt the word!! Then it started to clear out and get spottier. My acne is slowly getting better but I have still had the odd BIG spot. Maybe its still too early to tell. Regarding Dianette - I was frightened to take this with all the horror stories and being 39. However I have never smoked, I don't suffer from depression, I don't have family history of breast cancer or dvt and my bp is low. So I went for it and made my friend promise to tell me if my personality changed! I have to say, I feel fine, absolutely no different to normal. I will be more vigilant with bp checks and smear tests etc but so far so good. AND...my hair and skin isn't as greasy! Only downside is my boobs ache a bit. I am hoping they will grow a bit! I guess everyone is different, I will persevere with Dianette as I REALLY want clear skin - I hate being the spotty one! I would just say be aware of all the side effects and if you suspect any, then be safe and come off of it.

Pros:

works if you are sure that your acne is hormonal and if you take consistently for a few months. you have to be persistent with this!

Cons:

the obvious one that you can only take it for a certain amount of time due to the risks, but it seems it depends on what the doctor thinks. i havent really found any other cons apart from that i still have period pains which i hoped might stop but its worth it for nice skin

about 4 months ago i broke in the worst acne of my entire life due to the pill cilest, it literally ruined my life and im still suffering from the phscological effects of that because it looked so bad, so my doctor changed me to dianette which is an anti androgen. it is now about three months in and my skin is really improving i dont have many spots now but im dealing with all the scarring which still really bothers me but at least i can touch my face without cringing.

Long term use with no problems

Pros:

Reduces androgen levels
Helps clear up acne, although not completely
Available on the NHS

Cons:

Takes time to positively impact acne
Relatively limited benefit for facial hair in my experience
No negative side effects as far as i am aware, even after long-term use

I was prescribed Dianette when i was 17 as a method of birth control and to help with the symptoms of PCOS, especially acne and facial hair. I have stayed on it ever since and i am now 35. I have never had any problems with it and use it as a contraceptive as well as to reduce my androgen levels. It didn't entirely eradicate my acne or my facial hair, so i was prescribed Roaccutaine for my skin (worked but TERRIBLE side effects and the acne returned) and i have spent a small fortune privately on laser hair removal for my face, which helps but ultimately the hair still grows back, albeit less coarse. Having been on Dianette for 18 years i am reluctant to come off as my androgen levels are still above normal and I can't face (pardon the pun!) the thought of my skin and hairiness getting worse. I havent had the side effects that some reviewers mention as far as I know and if you've lived with a hairy, spotty face before, you'll understand my reluctance to mess with my hormones again now that things are relatively stable and the spots and hair are at a level I can manage. On balance, i would say it is worth giving it a go, just be patient as it really does take a few months to have an impact on acne and even longer for hirsutism. All the best!

Pros:

Has started to reduce hirsutism (excess hair) already after 2 months. Has increased breast size. Good contraceptive. Can kick start a normal cycle/pattern of menstruation

Cons:

Slight nausea. It is not preferable for long term (but no hormonal contraceptive is). Dianette can increase your appetite but if you eat healthily you should not gain much weight. If you have severe acne and gain weight rapidly you may have PCOS

Dianette is helping with my hirsutism as I have PCOS of a very slight form. I have never had acne in my life so cannot comment on that aspect of it. I requested this contraceptive from my GP as it is best to reduce excess hair. As a midwife I have an understanding of how the drug works and the risks associated. ALL contraceptives have risks and dianette is no different to the other forms. I would not recommend anyone to be on any contraceptive long term without fully understanding the possible implications. I only plan to be on this drug for a maximum of 6 months to regulate my cycle.

Pros:

-Reduced Acne
-Reduced body hair

Cons:

-Massive weight gain
-Becoming tired and emotional
-Increased risk of blood clots

Having being diagnosed with PCOS, I noticed a huge difference in the first couple of months on embarking on this pill. My skin cleared up and was less oily and greasy than before. I was also pleased with how well the excessive body hair had reduced dramatically. However, I found that my appetite soared and therefore I gained almost 2 stone in weight! I actually never made the connection until I changed the type of pill I was taking and noticed the weight loss after about a month or so. My mood was really low too. I don't think I would recommend this pill to readers. Despite my initial symptoms of acne and hirsutism almost completely disappearing, the cons really outweighed the pros for me. Unlike other postings I have read, my acne has not returned -I suspect this might be due to the new pill I'm taking, Cileste. My advice is to speak to your Doctor for alternative forms of medication for acne prior to taking Dianette.

Pros:

cleared up acne for the year and a bit!

Cons:

acne returned after i came off >.<

i am a 16 year old female and you know what that means? hormonal acne. i went on dianette for just over a year as i was prescribed it by my local GP. as many of the people have said on here, yes it did clear up my acne however, after i came off it, i broke out all over again. i would not say it returned "worse" but my acne was bad anyway. HOWEVER, after reading other forums about whether or not people broke out after coming off dianette i have found a way to control most of my acne after coming off. i now take vitamin D3 with a factor 3000 IU, evening primrose oil, along with OMEGA 3,6,9 (along with other herbal supplements such as green tea). i have also been monitoring my diet, such as eating less greasy foods, avoiding hydrogenated carbs and fats etc.. i have been drinking green tea and rooibos tea, and pure apple cider vinegar with water to help clean my system without anything harsh as i am still quite young... i hope that if anyone is thinking of coming off dianette they research on some of the supplements i listed and try some of them out... overall, this works for many people but if you are afraid to break out again and have not taken it before, only take it if there is a special occasion coming up!~ :)
