Pros:

cleared up my acne

Cons:

takes a while to clear up; still left with acne scars

Solodyn worked for me. I didn't get any side effects whatsoever. I was on the 90mg pill per day. My acne at first was spread out over my chin and cheeks, and I had many small blackheads and whiteheads that felt like bumps and were red. When I first used it for the first few weeks my acne didn't get better; in fact it flared up. However, my derm explained that Solodyn pushed out the bacteria and sebum from the skin, so I'd look like pizza face for a while. A month and a half later, 99% of my acne is gone. I have not had new acne for at least two weeks, and my skin has been pretty clear for at least a week. However, I am still left with acne scars that look like small red marks and a few scabs from some acne. In time the scabs will heal and the scars will fade- but I won't have acne anymore.

Pros:

it worked -- my skin looks better than it has in years, and it's very cheap if you can get the promotional card. few side effects, especially considering the payoff.

Cons:

it makes me feel a bit tired, which adds up because another med i'm taking (for something completely unrelated) also makes me tired! it's very pricey if you don't get the promotional card deal.

a bit of history: i've been in and out of derms' offices for acne since i was 12, and i'm 33 now. i went through a course of accutaine when it was at its worst when i was in my early 20s, and though it wasn't a 100% fix, it greatly helped my facial complexion and eliminated any back/chest acne issues i had. still, my face can break out pretty bad from time to time, and until recently i was using retin-a micro to keep things in check. i began developing dermatitis because of irritation caused by the retin-a (most likely because i'm a bit older now and my skin is drier than it used to be, though still acne-prone), so my derm offered this as an option. i've tried various acne antibiotics before, and this is the only one that has had such dramatic results -- within about a week i could already tell a difference, and at about a month into the course i was clear. i've just started the third and final month, so i cannot say whether the results will be lasting at this point.

Pros:

I really had zero side effects.

Cons:

It may be pretty expensive for some people . Regularly it is $500 but my insurance covered most of it so it was only $11.

I got rid of all my acne except for a ocassional pimple. And it really did help to reduce the oil production in my skin.

Pros:

This was the miracle cure for my acne. I don't need to even worry about it anymore. No peeling, no dry skin, no irritation or redness. No annoying cream! Works quickly.

Cons:

Expensive.

I used to get large cystic pimples and standard whiteheads. On average, about two new white heads would pop up a day. I'd maybe get a cystic pimple every month. I had used Proactiv, Ziana, and Benzaclin, each for months at a time with no results. I was washing my face to the point where my skin was always dried out. I decided to see a dermatologist and he gave me Solodyn. Solodyn has pretty much completely cleared up my acne. My skin tone is evening out because the acne scars are fading and it's finally stopped peeling (Ziana did a number on it). I noticed results within the first week. After a month of usage the change has been dramatic.

Cleared skin
Definitely take it with a snack when you take it because it might upset your stomach if you don't. Other than that, I had no problems with this med! I was on it for quite some time last year and then stopped taking it because I don't like being on anti-biotics for more than 3 months. My skin was fine though, and I like how if I have a flare-up, I can just take a few and my skin improves quickly!

Pros:

Gets rid of cystic acne

Cons:

Still some break-outs

This product has worked well with me. Other than oiliness, my main issue are cysts. If you have the same problem, then Solodyn will most likely benefit you. Just don't set your expectations too high; you will still have little blemishes here and there, so you have to proceed with other meds (topical creams, face washes). However, I had to stop taking it because I recently went on birthcontrol (Ortho-Tri Cylen) Solodyn will counteract with birthcontrol, thus you increase your chances of becoming pregnant. All in all, great product!

Pros:

Really helped clear up my skin in just a few days. No noticed side effects. Worked really fast.

Cons:

I already burn so easily and this medicine makes you sensitive to light so fair skinned red heads be careful!

I would try it for sure. My derm wants to put me on accutane if this doesnt work and i reallllly dont want to take that so im hoping this clears up everything. Make sure you ask for a rebate card and good luck!! :]

Pros:

Nodular acne - treatment is 90mg Solodyn per day, along with Epiduo gel once a day. I noticed my skin clearing up in 2 days! Taking it consistently has kept me acne free for over 3 months. My doctor wants to see me back in 3 more months.

Cons:

In the beginning, I noticed headaches, slight chest pain and shortness of breath, but only lasted a few weeks. Have noticed some redness on my face, and some really dry patches, but much easier to look at than nodular acne! Costly without good ins!

Get a card from your derm! It guaranteed I wouldn't pay more than $25 out of pocket. After my insurance, my cost would have been $300 a month, but when the pharmacist ran my Solodyn card, I paid $25 the first couple of months, then $10 the last 2 times. I do believe the Epiduo was a great product to use also! My derm said that it would also help repair my skin over time, and my skin looks fresh and clean after just a few months. I believe the Epiduo caused the redness and dryness on my face. My husband has a couple of breakouts and tested out my gel, and ended up with a really red dry patch on his face, and he complained that his face felt like it was on fire. For me, these issues came and went, but WAY easier to deal with than nodular acne! I totally recommend trying this stuff out!!
