Stay patient and hopeful
I never feel the need to write reviews but after battling acne I feel I need to. I am 20 yrs old and have had clear skin up until I was about 18. Break outs were always mild but this past year my jaw line and cheeks were constantly broken out. Been to three dermatologists and NOTHING worked until my latest derm. She prescribed me solodyn and today marks my 12 week point. I am very impatient and was losing hope because it did not seem to be working. This past week however my skin is noticeably clearer (knock on wood) and breakouts have stopped. Listen to your doctor when she tells you to be patient! I also was prescribed spironolactone about 9 weeks ago so I am sure that is helping as well. Waiting three months for results is nothing compared to never having clear skin, trust me. I cleanse with Cerave and also moisturize with the brand. Still not perfect but I would say I am 85% better. Stick with it everyone, it sucks to hear that things will get worse before they get better but it is true.

Does it work for whiteheads, blackheads and tiny pimples?
February 18, 2013

Pros:

I am 60 years old and still suffer from large primples, mainly on my chin. I know Solodyn works because I've stopped twice between prescriptions, and the pimples come right back. I keep my face clean and use a topical daily, so I know it's the Solodyn that clears up the problem!

Cons:

None for me

At my age, I think Solodyn is the safest for me.

Clears up skin completely.

Cons:

Nothing :)

Works immeditly for me! I love this stuff, my skin is baby smooth after 4 days. I also use epiduo at night, I don't know how solodyn can do anyone wrong bc it works so well for me.

Pros:

little to no acne

Cons:

Price, $20 for three months, then the price changes to $300 a month with insurance

I have struggled with acne all my life. I am 40 years old and still have acne. My doctor put me on this medicine and I have been taking it for two months now. I love it. I have had maybe one pimple in two months.

Pros:

Cleared up my skin perfectly. I havent had a breakout in about 5 months since I started taking this medication.

Cons:

It took almost 3 months to actually work for me. At first my skin was so dry with a rash around my nose and under my eyes from the dryness.

This medicine works really well at clearing up your skin, but it may take a while to work.

Pros:

Clears up face effectively! (Remember, acne can have many different factors, so it is not guaranteed that it will work for everyone I had been on many different medications before this that didn't work or worked and then stopped)

Cons:

If I go off of it, I break out within a week, and I have very severe acne so without this medication, my face is in pain and I look horrendous! I don't like being on medication especially for long periods.

When I do go off of it, I must maintain a healthy diet, exercise regularly, drink a lot of water and make sure my sheets and pillows are fresh almost everyday (very important). This however, is very difficult for me since I am a full time student and I work full time so getting the time for exercise is hard and sometimes I don't have to time to eat at home and I'm at school till the night time and the only thing open are fast food restaurants which screw everything up.

Pros:

I had bad back acne and it started clearing within days of using. One pill a day, easy to take, I'm only on 45mg. I have been CLEAR for over a month.

Cons:

Absolutely none. I know a lot of people write reviews about bad side effects, but I really believe that more people have great success with it and don't bother to write positive reviews once clear. It really does work.

Don't suffer unnecessarily. It gave me my confidence back. My derm wants me to stay on it for 6 more months to make sure it knocks the infection out completely. They say they don't have studies past 3 months but in my experience, once you really knock it out it stays gone. I had been on minocycline in high school for over two years for facial acne - it cleared my face then and has been clear ever since (I'm 32 now). I'm figuring that the new improved solodyn should do the same for my bacne. Make sure to get the rebate card from your derm!

Pros:

Works well, no side effects

Cons:

Can be expensive

Solodyn worked great for me. I used it for 6 months (along with Veltin). I didn't get any side effects with it like I did with Doxycycline (the doxy made me really nauseous and I completely lost my appetite and would get light headed). My insurance covered it with a $20 copay. I was scared to use it after reading some of the reviews on here... But it worked for me! My acne cleared up on my face and body very quickly. I guess you just have to try it and see, everyone is different. I've been off it for 2 weeks now and so far so good!

Pros:

Beautiful Skin

Cons:

It's an antibiotic.
Can cause stomach upset.

I've been using Solodyn for a temporary treatment to keep my mild, yet stubborn, facial and body acne under control before/during my wedding and honeymoon. Solodyn has been awesome and my skin has looked like porcelain starting a few days into treatment. I would recommend this to anyone who has mild-moderate, stubborn acne. I also take a probiotic, florastor, to help with the stomach upset it can cause. I've been using Solodyn in conjunction with Evoclin foam on my chest and back, Panoxyl 10% BP creme wash on my chest and back, and Atralin .05% topical gel on my face. My derm gave me a coupon so my first month was free. I've since paid $50 copay for the RX.
