i only use neosporin if i couldn't resist popping a pimple. since a popped pimple is essentially an open wound i apply the neosporin cream (less oily and clogging than the original ointment) to the pimple to prevent it from getting infected. i've noticed that the anti-bacterial agents also occasionally improve my acne. however i'm going to discourage using neosporin for anything beyond preventing infection because of the mentioned long-term effect 0f decreasing your skin's natural ability to fight off bacteria.

Pros:

cheap, effective way of treating popped zits; may reduce swelling and pain while preventing future scarring

Cons:

greasy, unlikely to prevent new pimples/treat un-popped zits

If you've popped a zit, try applying a layer of antibiotic cream to the area in order to prevent further inflamation and future scarring. I applied antibiotic cream to a popped zit last night, and it is currently about half the size/no longer painful. I also believe that, perhaps by keeping the skin moist and free of infection, the antibiotic cream will work to prevent any related scarring. I remember a long time ago my brother scraped up his back pretty extensively and the doctor recommended applying Neosporin (antibiotic cream) to his wounds consistently until they healed. This prevented scabbing and probably prevented scarring. The skin on his back shows no traces of the otherwise traumatic event.

It works. Period.

Cons:

Again- as many others, wondering if there is resistance?

Pros:

Works fast and keeps the area from becoming further inflamed.

Cons:

Greasy, and will clog pores if used too much.

I always put neosporin on zits I've popped, usually right before bed with a band-aid over the area. It keeps most of the redness at bay and heals the spot quickly while keeping it from scabbing/flaking up. I've put neosporin on freshly formed zits before and haven't had much luck with making them go away, it seems this product only works magic on popped zits. All in all, definitely worth using on sore, inflamed acne.

Pros:

Amazing!!!

Cons:

None

I have been dealing with these horrible cystic scabs on my facce for over 2 weeks now...Looks like I'm getting over the Chiken Pocks!! I decided to start rubbing Neosporin Cream on the infected areas. These nasty things are almost completely gone now!! This will not help with any forming acne...But, if you popped one that is bleeding or scabbing then put this on it....then leave it alone!! Don't try picking at it more or touching it at all. Apply this daily and you will be amazed. Also will help with any scaring you may have done when picking and popping these things. Good Luck!!

Pros:

Neosporin + pain relief cream works great & I love it! I see significant improvement after years of wasting money on acne products. Simple is better.

Cons:

Don't overuse because you may become resistant to the ingredients.

After I became an adult, I started getting acne. I have spent thousands on acne products, dermatologist & prescriptions. After nothing worked, I began praying that God would cure me from this horrible problem and spirit spoke to me and said stop using anything made for acne. If you think about it, ACNE PRODUCTS DON'T CURE ACNE! The acne product companies would be out of business cause if they did because there would be no need to keep buying the creams, cleansers & lotions. Just like illnesses & diseases vs. prescriptions & treatments. So I began just using a simple cream cleanser (Olay Definity Illuminating Cream Cleanser) not made for acne. I don't use my hands to wash my face, I use the daily facial cleansing cloths & I put the cream cleanser on the cloth. One cloth usually lasts me about 1 week since I hang it to dry after each use. And while my skin is still damp, I apply a fingertip of the neosporin cream to my skin & I rub in every other night or as needed. Give it a week or

Pros:

It's perfect for when a zit breaks, and bleeds. It disinfects, and heals leaving no scaring. It helps to sooth dryness and relieve pain of deep cystic acne if used correctly.

Cons:

HOWEVER it has petroleum jelly in it which clogs pores so it shout NOT be used over large areas/ in large amounts.

Its not expensive, and it works well when used in the correct manner. Find what amounts works best for your skin and don't use it for too long as the bacteria can build immunity to the active ingredients. Its a good solution for when you pop a zit, and if you just need something to keep rare breakouts at bay. Make sure you wash your face well before you use this to prevent the jelly from trapping dirt in your skin.

Pros:

Helps zits heal quickly and dries them out nicely.

Cons:

Greasy/oily.

I've been using neosporin since a friend told me about it 7 or 8 years ago. It actually works really well! It dries out zits and if a zit has been popped, it helps it heal just like any other wound. You just have to be careful to use very limited amounts directly on the zit. I only use it at night and I try to apply it about an hour or so before I go to bed so the ointment doesn't smear.
