Pros:

- improves skin appearance and texture
- little to no pain
- can be relaxing (if you go to a good spa)
- reduces scarring
-gives you that glowing skin look

Cons:

- expensive
- takes time to see results

- I did 5 microdermabrasion sessions over the period of 4 months. - Important to note: The condition of my skin at the time was very mild acne (I got the odd zit). I was mainly going to address my red acne scars. Plus I was hoping to have overall better looking skin texture (that glow we all want). - After my first treatment I didn't notice much of a difference in the scarring but my skin felt great and clean. The microdermabrasion did not cause any further acne. - After the second and third treatment I kept taking photos of my skin and noticed that my cheeks had a nice glow to them and the scarring was indeed starting to fade. - I stopped after 5 treatments because I just couldn't afford the $125 each session. - Now that I make more money I am going to start going for more treatments. Living in a big city with lots of pollution I think this is a great alternative to a facial for someone that want's to focus on minimizing acne scars rather than just extractions. If you go to a good spa, they will play relaxing music, do extractions if you need it, and use a cool gel on your face after so that you leave with barely any redness on your face. - I recommend microdermabrasion for anyone who is patient (doesn't need a quick fix for getting rid of scarring) as this procedure won't clear skin after one treatment. You will definitely see results after a 4-5 treatments. I didn't notice until I starting taking photos of my skin. -It isn't invasive so the risk is minimal. - I recommend going somewhere reputable rather than whoever has the cheapest price. I hope this helps!

Pros:

- quick results
- painless
- reduced blackheads, whiteheads, and pore size

Cons:

- a little dryness, redness, and flaking (3 days)
- sensitivity... STAY OUT OF THE SUN! ...they aren't kidding about this.

I've always exfoliated/used a clarisonic, but have really problematic hormonal acne at age 26 (embarrassing!) Micro has been awesome for me; after recovering from just one treatment, my skin looks WAY clearer and younger, while feeling smooth and soft. I have really persistently clogged pores, and this produced amazing results pretty immediately; I got teary the first time I looked in the mirror. Make sure you get this done at a clinician's office... my dermatologist's office has an aesthetician on-staff who performs this and other services, and I think this really cuts back on the risks associated with an under-trained aesthetician or tools that haven't been sanitized. I would also check with a doctor before getting this done, because it IS pretty intense, and if you have a bad reaction to it, I'm sure it could lead to discomfort and maybe scarring. The aesthetician I went to also told me it's important to go to a place with updated technology... they had a diamond-tipped tool which is supposed to be more effective and less irritating... I have no idea if this is actually true. I'm not sure about the claims of reducing fine lines (I don't have any) or stimulating collagen production... but my scars are lighter and my skin is just so much better looking. I do not experience cystic acne, nor do I have icepick scarring... just superficial scars and enlarged pores due to swollen spots and blackheads/whiteheads. Again, it's only been a week since my first treatment, but every morning I wake up and my skin looks better... I can't wait for my next installment next week.

Pros:

Helped smooth out bumps and evens skin tone. Your face feels very clean and refreshed first few days.

Cons:

Seemed to cause more breakouts after a while.

I had just finished a series of peels when microderm was recomended to me. I thought I would give it a shot and was promsed it would not make my skin worse. I broke out very badly and was told it was just brining nastiness to the surface. just like everything else, it brought it to the surface but it did not go away. I am not getting cysts, which I did not before. I saw an estician, she's very nice, but I did not get the results I was told I would get. Had 6 weekly treatments, last was free. Might be good for someone without active acne.

Pros:

- Skin feels clean and fresh
- Lightens scarring

Cons:

- Expensive
- Has so far caused me to break out dramatically
- Has so far enlarged my pores

I am currently up to my fourth treatment. After the third treatment, I begun to breakout with both small pimples and large 'volcano' bumps which have no head. My blackheads also appear to be have multiplied and the pores around me nose and forehead have become larger. I really hoped that the Microdermabrasion had just brought up pimples that were already existing under the surface of my skin, but after a couple of hours of research, I realised that after the third treatment, skin should be (at least) starting to clear up. From reading the other comments on this hub, Microdermabrasion obviously has varied effects on different people. I recommend that you pay for one session at a time, rather than in a six, nine or twelve session deal, so that you can assess how your skin is feeling after each session and decide whether to continue or not. This will save time, energy and money if the Microdermabrasion has a negative effect on your skin.

Pros:

Cleared up some pimples and whiteheads
My skin is no longer as rough.

Cons:

Blackheads remained.
Dry skin.
I'm a student= no more money. Meaning, it can be a bit pricey for some people.

It's already been 3 weeks or so, and my cheeks area that had digusting redness and tiny pimples are gone. Acne scars have reduced dramatically, and are fading. Made my skin look healthier and lighter. They also gave me a product to use daily that can whiten acne scars and fight acne. So far so good. My face had been a bit dry lately, but apparantly it's because it's trying to fight the existing acne underneath my skin, trying to dry it out is the best way. I'm probably going to make another appointment next month and let my mom pay. :)

Pros:

Reduced scars, even ice-pick scars; resulted in smoother & healthier skin for better overall texture, tone, & complexion—after just 1 treatment! Not invasive, inexpensive—in Thailand, at least—safe on ethnic skin, no real side effects—not eve

Cons:

None, not even redness. Remember: microdermabrasion is a procedure that needs to be thoroughly & meticulously researched by YOU, before you take that "first step." Make absolutely certain that you are a potential candidate—or you'll end up unhappy.

I'm from New York, where the same $150 microdermabrasion can be performed at a fraction of the cost in Thailand'"blame the IMF, UN, and Bush's cousin Obama for this. I have superficial scars and a few deeper scars from adolescent acne that I wanted to minimize. After my procedure, I went to the mirror anxiously and to my surprise'"and delight'"my skin looks great! However, if you have much deeper scars, try MicroLaserPeel, which is like a microdermabrasion on steroids; it goes deeper but still not too invasive, anywhere from 10-80 microns deep, though 20 is the norm. As for downtime, the microdermabrasion is known as "The Lunch-time Peel," whereas the MicroLaserPeel is known as "The Weekend Peel." You can infer that the downtime for MicroLaserPeel will be about 2-3 days, more for deeper peels'"CIA Google for more info. I wanted to write this post after my 6th treatment but I got too excited after my first, so I will provide another update after my final treatme

Pros:

Smoother Skin
Relaxing
Decreases Acne
Exfoliates

Cons:

Slight Dryness Afterward
Can Be Painful with Large Lesions
Expensive

Hands down, if you can afford this treatment, do it! My skin has never looked more clear or felt so soft after just several treatments. Currently I schedule one treatment a month, but I like to bump it up to two for special events. Certain areas of the face may become dry afterward, such as around the nose or the mouth. I am very fair skinned and besides having large cysts, suffer from the awful hyperpigmentation left after the lesion has healed. Microdermabrasion lightens these areas much faster than at home exfoliation.

Pros:

It cleans out the blackheads and dirt from pores. It also helps with discoloration left from acne.

Cons:

Shouldn't use on ACVTIVE acne even though they say it's ok.

If you have cystic acne like I did don't let them tell you it's harmless and will help cause it hurts like hell and makes the cystic acne scar worse :( But if your face is ACNE FREE and you're left with scars and discoloration then I'd say go for it!

Pros:

- Effective in removing top skin surface layer.
- A very quick one hour procedure that can be done during lunch break for those working full-time.

Cons:

- Montly treatment can be very costly.
- Can be an unpleasant experience, ie can hurt a little, especially at areas where skin is inflammed and sensitive, fine sand crystals get into eyes, nostrils, ears.
- May leave your skin feeling sore, raw and look red and blushy afterwards.

I would recommeded this only to those with light to zero acne. I used to go for microdermabrasion treatments every 2-3 months when I had very little pimples and it had been very effective in improving my skin's texture (smooth, soft and glowy). This was the time when I had the best looking complexion ever in my life since I started getting acne. I am currently on antibiotics and Shiseido to treat my severely moderate acne condition and will definitely get back to microdermabrasion treatments when my skin has completely cleared up.

Pros:

Instant results, baby smooth skin, hyperpigmentation is gone, scars gone.

Cons:

Hurts a little bit, sensitive to sunlight.

I got the Crystal Microdermabrasion, less harsh than the diamon tipped. My treatment was very effective, but the beauty place treated your skin before microdermabrasion. They cleansed, exfoliated and applyed a cooling cream, they than performed the microdermabasion and after they cleansed again, with moistrisied, sunscreened, and vitamin C (to help renewel and scar). the microdermabasion hurt a little, and the vitamin C stung. I recommend getting multiple treatments at regularly intervals. I got 12 treatments in total once every 2 weeks. My acne scars are gone, the hyperpigmentation is gone, my skin looks amazing. I do not recommend getting a one-off treatment, it won't do much. But I recommend seeing a professional that includes a facial treatment. I paid $99 for a treatment.
