Pros:

It's great to use as a maintainance tool. It clears out a lot of dead skin and your pores without the harshness of squeezing. I recommend once a month.

Cons:

Can be pricey depending on who you go to. Shop around.

As i said I recommend this as a maintainance tool every month to get a thorough cleaning of your face in terms of dead skin and whiteheads and blackheads. Depending on you facial sensetivity use with caution in terms of how frequent its used. Some places I paid $100, but i found a better place for $50 and great specials when you pay up front for multi sessions. This new place cleans your face and puts on some pretty good lotions. Don't think this is a magic pill that will solve it all. Continue you regimen and keep your face moisturized and blot

Do not get- if you have ACNE prone skin and very sensitive.
This procedure, is by far the worst for acne prone/sensitive skin. Purely because this procedure is best known by fully qualified professionals, and if you have a fully qualified professional ' he/she will tell you that the Microdermabrasion would not be good for your skin type (upon analysing it) I, unfortunately found this out that hard way- I have sensitive skin with a few break outs (which were under control) ' I wanted a facial that would brighten my skin as I felt it was feeling a bit dull. I went to my local beauty salon- and was told to fill out a 'Microdermabrasion form' ' which basically asks you your skin type and tells you that everyone's results are different etc etc. I noted on the form that I had skin redness and was quite sensitive. The skin therapist (supposedly qualified) ' repeated what was on the form and continued with the procedure. Long story short- my skin felt like sand paper had been rubbed repeatedly ' the next 7 days were awful. Time off work had to be taken off ' due to the skin reaction and red blotchiness. It was tight, painful and in the end started flaking. Though most of it cleared up- 3 weeks later I'm battling chin acne! Something that had stopped for over 6 years! And now it's back after the procedure. It tries to heal and then comes back with new ones the day after. I've tried everything and now have to resort to antibiotics. So ' moral of the story. If a skin therapist continues with this procedure without assessing your skin first or doing a patch test'.then take them to court.

How’s it doing now?

Pros:

Completely healed all acne and scars after 2 treatments

Cons:

Expensive

I had terrible acne for years and tried all sorts of solutions. Nothing worked permanently until I tried microderm. After the first treatment my skin looked better but I still had breakouts. Slightly better results at the 2nd treatment. The third treatment completely stopped my acne cold. I no longer have to use benz-peroxide or sal-acid at all. My face just doesn't get acne anymore.

Pros:

glowing skin

Cons:

caused severe acne that I never have

like everything under the sun not everything may work for you. I have sensitive skin and don't really suffer at all with acne,,never did just the usual 3 to 4 bumps under the skin that are like white plug small white heads that you can only notice yourself. i have micro treatments done before and remembered having the worst cystic acne of my life for a few months it eventually went away but i was still never sure of the cause of those breakouts until i had micros done again 2 years later i want to cry in tears because i can only imagine what i might face in the next few months till my skin goes back to its normal self. i have already started noticing new pimples everyday badly as before. i suffered many months with really bad painful cystic bumps because of this treatment. now i know for sure this is what cased it. i am in desperate search for something to curb the breakouts until my skin grows back to normal. i really regret getting these treatments because now i will have to face the consequences for a few months. if anyone experienced this also and found a way to curb the problem please let me know..i just need to get by for a few months

I don't know why they allow people to have it done if they do not have blackheads, fine lines or acne issues. Seems lots of people with ok skin have this done. Never experienced an issue after treatment but previously suffered with acne cysts so I feel your pain. Did they advise no make up, moisturise really and to lightly cleanse skin for 24 hrs?

Retin-A .05% was the only thing that worked for me. The breakout took 3 months to heal ..

Pros:

- affordable
- painless
- relaxing

Cons:

none

Someone recommended microdermabrasion to me to help get rid of the slight scars/brown spots I have on my face, so I decided to give it a shot. I went a few times and it cleared up the scars I had on one side of my face completely! The other side was always worse than the other so it will take a bit more time. It leaves your face smooth and really does work over time. Very pleased with it so far!

Pros:

Skin looks amazing. Scars are down 50% after just two treatments. Makeup goes on smooth and soft- people won't even be able to tell you're wearing it!

Cons:

You walk out feeling like a tomato. It's very expensive (I pay $190 a session) but it's well worth the money. I don't think it would work on severe or active acne, but it's awesome for superficial scars.

I was skeptical about getting it, but boy am I glad I did. I didn't notice much of a difference after the first treatment (but my friends said I was glowing). Well, after the second treatment I definitely noticed the fading of my scars! I'm thrilled (and it's only been two weeks!) The place I go to uses an exfoliating mask, then a diamond tip laser, then a pigmentation machine, then follows up with a vitamin C treatment. I think that's why they can guarantee such great results in every patients (and it's perfect for people like me that only have a few little scars- results are pretty much instant). Would recommend this to anyone with light, stubborn acne scars and/ or a lot of cash to spare.

Wish I Never Did It
I went to go get a microdermabrasion treatment because after years of a perfect complexion and no acne, pimples and blackheads just started re-appearing on my forehead and it was the worst acne I've had in years. I was promised by my mother and by a cosmetologist that microdermabrasion would help clear up my skin, and so I went to get a treatment. Worst decision of the year. This treatment made my acne worse ten times over. Not only did my acne spread from my forehead to my temples and my cheeks within a couple of days/close to a week (where I generally never had acne before anyways), but it made it every single blemish a bright red color; even blemishes that weren't that noticeable before became obvious. Now, months and months later I'm still battling this horrible acne. I wish that I never got those two treatments done. I definitely feel as if my acne would have stayed in one place instead of spreading like a disease. My dermatologist gave me medications and I'm hoping that they will be able to undo the damage that microdermabrasion has done...

I am 50 so I know what you are going through, I have my acne under control somewhat now, I use black soap, BHA from Paula's Choice as this is the only place I can find it and I got a prescription from my doctor for Retin A 0.01%, my skin is soft, clear most of the time(odd pimple that time of the month). I now will not do the microdermabrasion, thank you for the information! good luck!

How is it doing now? I had similar results. 3 months out and wondering how long this is going to last.
March 18, 2012

Pros:

1. makes face smooth and soft
2. reduces red spots and hyperpigmentation from pimples
3. usually comes with a facial or a mask if you do it at the spa

Cons:

1. does not totally reduce acne pigmentation unless you go for a series of treatment
2. cannot wear foundation for the rest of the day
3. can be costly ($75 - $150 per treatment)

I struggle with the scars and marks left after the acne than the acne itself. I get pigmentation very easily from anything that happens to my skin: sun, chemical burn, heat burn, and allergic reactions. I've done chemical peels and the mini luminage peel before. I prefer microdermabrasion over these since there is no chemical involved and there are less risk of scarring. Even though they call chemical peels "lunchtime" peels, your skin doesn't heal until a week afterwards and the mini luminage takes a month. You do experience slight flakiness after a microdermabrasion treatment, but it's nothing like what you would experience after a chemical peel.

Pros:

• Costs next to nothing.
• You're in control.

Cons:

• Takes a while both during and for the overall treatment.

My review is about a DIY I've been doing for six months. I spent $100 on a crystal microderm which left me looking awful for a few days (worse than post-Fraxel). So I researched this new Vibraderm that everyone is raving about. Vibraderm uses an abrasive paddle that gently buffs away layers. I thought, "So do those $3 exfoliating gloves at the drug store." I bought a set with really basic 2% Sal. face wash and got started. Every Friday night, I wash my face normally, put some wash in the gloves and buff away. After a few minutes of gentle buffing (it stings a bit) I wash once more and apply a lotion when I get out. (If you see dots of blood you went too far.) Right away I noticed that newer dark spots were right at the surface and glowing bright red. After a day of mild redness (I could barely tell) I noticed that my nine-year old scars were already a bit faded. I've been doing this for about six months; "slowly but surely" it's working. Try it. If it sucks you only wasted $10.
