Great oil, but not for acne
Let me start by saying that I love coconut oil. Eye makeup remover, moisturizer, hair conditioner... But it is simply not a good choice for acne prone skin. Every oil has a comedogenic rating (how likely it is to clog pores) ranging from 0-5. Zero doesn't clog pores, 5 is very likely to clog pores. Coconut oil is around a 4. More beneficial options for acne prone skin would be hemp seed oil or jojoba oil, rating a 0 and 2 respectively. But by all means, keep slathering the deliciously scented coconut stuff all over your legs and hair :) Great moisturizer! Here are some sites with more information. They didn't cite their sources very well, but the info is consistent with everything else I've read: [link edited out] removed] [link removed]

Pros:

Cheap, all natural, tightens my skin - shrinks acne

Cons:

I actually felt like it was drying for the first few days, but that could just be the weather changing right now..after about 4-5 days that went away, so maybe it's just part of the healing process

I've just been putting it directly on my skin (not using it in meals). It's a little oily for my liking during the day, but I'm sure if I used less it wouldn't be so bad! lol Think I'm addicted. I find it's totally worth it to use it twice a day instead of just at night. My skin has been acting up the last few months and this TOTALLY shrunk any large acne. As a bonus..I used it on a cold sore & it dried it up way quicker than normal AND takes away the itch. But basically, now that i've noticed it working, i used it on my nails too..haha..it's like natures' magic ;)

Pros:

I love coconut oil. It takes a bit to work..like anything, but it really pulls through.

Cons:

I dont like to put it on before going out really. Its quite shiny.

I put the coconut oil on my face after I 1) scrub with water and a cloth 2) massage in acv 3) wipe off acv 4) use queen helenes mint julep masque. After those steps I rub some all over my face and go to bed. I love waking up in the morning with glowing cheeks~ give it a try

Pros:

Natural, works well, affordable, lasts a long time.

Cons:

Leaves the face greasy, but I really don't mind that. I also think oils in general are only meant for people with oily skin...weird how that works :]

I am loving this stuff! I have oily skin, and moderately severe acne. I used to use a lot of drying products loaded with chemicals and it would do nothing for my acne. I ended up spending many years and dollars on products that never worked! I have only recently started using natural products for my acne, and it has worked wonders for me! I use coconut oil twice a day every day, Retin-A everyday before bed, honey masks twice a day, and aspirin and honey mask every other day, it has gotten my skin to where I want it! Finally! Yes, it DOES bring the pimple to a head, but that is a GOOD thing! And it lasts a long time! I have been using it a month and two day, and I'm only about 1/4 of the way through it! It has worked wonders for me, and I LOVE it! There is no way I wold use any drugstore product again, Coconut Oil beats them all! And relative to what you pay for it, Coconut oil pretty much pays for itself. So it's a very good investment to make for your skin!

Pros:

shrinks pores, cleared up breakouts, evened out blotchy skin tone, got rid of flakiness, scars seem to be fading too

Cons:

none so far

I'm shocked. I've always had trouble with my combination skin and I hate trying new things because my face is so sensitive. I bought a jar of this a few months ago to eat in oatmeal (for thyroid boost) and just started putting it on my face a month ago. Wow! Took about 3 weeks to get used to...I think it exfoliates a bit, so it made my skin look flaky and oily at first, but stay with it. I'm glowing now! I just dab some on after a shower and then get my hands wet to smooth it around, so I don't have to put on too much that way. I let it dry for 5 mins and then put on a little mineral makeup. My skin has never looked better, ever. They will delete the brand name -starts with N. Got in online at -starts with A. :) Lasts forever. Get a little empty plastic jar from the drugstore to keep some in so you don't get germs in the big jar.

Pros:

It made my skin softer and healthier. Brings deep acne to a head.

Cons:

It made me breakout in whiteheads that got worse and more numerous as I continued to use coconut oil.

I used this oil for about three months. At first, it seemed to help. However, after about a month I started getting breakouts - more than I had been experiencing with my adult hormonal acne. I thought this might be purging, so optimistically kept applying coconut oil to my face every night after a steamy shower. Unfortunately, my acne got worse. In addition to the usual breakouts associated with my menstruation cycle, I got whiteheads all month long. So, was the oil expelling existing impurities, a process that would eventually clear all acne? Or was it blocking my pores and causing pimples that never would have been had the oil not been applied? After a faithful three-month trial, my vote is for the latter. This oil is not good for my skin, but I believe it is a very healthy oil and will use what I have leftover in my cooking.

Amazing
Coconut oil has done wonders for my skin. I have a small amount of acne but pretty severe scarring. I use epiduo at night with the tiniest little scrape of coconut oil all over my face. In the morning I wash with cetaphil and use the tiniest little bit of coconut oil as moisturiser. If coconut oil is breaking you out you are using too much. You only need a scrape the size of half a pea for your whole face. I also use a home made Baking soda and coconut oil face scrub once a week. My skin is clearing rapidly, feels so soft and is glowing! luuuurve it!

My skin HATES coconut oil
Coconut oil has done nothing but make my acne WORSE. I used coconut oil as my makeupn remover, thinking it would be a great alternative for virgin olive oil (which is very expensive in my country). It tooks months of cystic acne before I realized that it was the coconut oil causing it. So naturally I stopped. I've been under acne treatment for almost two months now, and my skin has been gettig clearer. But then two weeks after I started using a new bb cream, my cystic acne started coming back! I even began getting cystic acne on my forehead, which has been clear for months! When I checked, one of the ingredients of the bb cream was, you guessed it, COCONUT OIL. The bb cream was not cheap, so of course I'm bummed that now I have to toss it because of one ingredient. For all the rave reviews of coconut oil here, acne prone people BEWARE still. Many, many sites state that coconut oil is HIGHLY comedogenic. A rating of 4! So while it might work wonders on some, acne prone people should still be careful before using this.

Pros:

- moisturizes skin, no longer get dry patches like i usually do in winter
- reduced shine in my t-zone
- 100% natural and affordable
- reduced severity and amount of pimples

I have struggled with moderate acne since my early teens. I'm now 23. I've been on several different types of birth control since I was 14, and I recently got off all hormonal birth control this past summer (aug 2011). My hormones went crazy trying to balance out after stopping birth control, and my skin broke out worse than ever. I found this site with a little knowledge of the benefit of coconut oil and after reading the reviews, I tried it out for myself. I use it with Apple-Cider Vinegar. I make a 50/50 solution of Braggs Organic Apple-Cider Vinegar and Water, and use it as a toner after washing my face with a natural bar of soap. After applying the ACV solution with a cotton pad, I moisturize with about 1/8tsp of coconut oil. I added essential oils of tea tree, lavender and bergamot to the coconut oil, which I think is really helping. For a regular sized jar of coconut oil, I added about 25 drops of tea tree, 30 drops of lavender, and 30 drops of bergamot. Make sure the coconut oil is melted so the essential oils can be evenly distributed. I started seeing results immediately. In the first two days, any pimples under the surface came to a head, and I had a bit of scarring from those for about a week, but after that, I barely get any new pimples (only minor ones), and my scars started fading quickly. I have combination skin, so I've always had a really shiny t-zone, and since I've been doing this routine, I noticed a significant improvement in the tone, texture and appearance of my skin. When I first put the coconut oil on my skin, it feels a bit greasy and looks kind of oily, but absorbs quickly and leaves my face glowing and fresh looking. It took about a month for me to feel confident that this was working, so don't be discouraged! Everyone heals differently!
