Pros:

Moisturizing, natural

Cons:

Stays kinda greasy for a while... maybe a few hours.

I wash with all natural soap, apply raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar with a cotton ball, wait for it to dry and then use my finger tips to rub about 1/3 of a teaspoon of extra virgin coconut oil all over my face at night. I kind of pat off the excess but leave my face a little shiny. It soaks in by morning. IT'S ACTUALLY WORKING!!! YAY!!! I seriously wish I could post pictures on here. It's amazing. I'm SOOOOOOO excited!!! All the normal stuff for acne makes your skin burn and itch and way too flaky for makeup to cover anything, not to mention the idea of all that junk soaking into your skin and polluting your body. But this is natural, simple, smells great, and is giving me GREAT SKIN!!! SWEET!

Pros:

soothing
nice smell
a little goes a long way

Cons:

can be awkward to use as the oil hardens at temps less than 76 degrees

I, like many, was skeptical about using oil on my acne-prone face. I stopped using NuvaRing (birth control) in Jan. 2012 for personal reasons. I'm 28 y.o. My skin was great while on birth control and then a month after I stopped, it broke out terribly. I developed large very painful cysts on my forehead, temples, chin and jawline which I had never experienced before to that level of severity. At first I tried some more natural methods (azelex-based serums, natural cleansers, sulfur, etc) and some of my lesions improved slightly but not much. The cysts weren't decreasing in size and were taking weeks (or even months) to heal. I kept getting new ones while the old ones were on their way out. Then I started Dan's regimen and went through weeks of red skin, peeling and flaking, itchiness, etc. even though I followed it as prescribed and ramped up the dosage accordingly. I was on the regimen for about 2.5 months and my skin had started to clear, but then I developed crusty patches of skin on my nose and chin that became even more red and irritated from the BP 2.5%. I was hoping that the regimen would work for me, but to be honest, it was extremely time-consuming and a bit of a morale killer. I stopped the regimen and started using a few drops of coconut oil instead (no harsh cleanser, just a splash of water in the morning and a micellar solution applied with cotton pads to remove makeup at night). To apply the oil: -Moisten hands and put 4-6 drops of oil on them using a glass dropper if you have one -Lightly rub together then massage all over face until absorbed I've had no new cysts and small pimples take a day or so to heal. The redness is gone. My skincare regimen takes 2 minutes instead of 30. I also take coconut oil internally before every meal (1.5 TBSP) and 100,000 IU Vitamin A palmitate (Genestra brand) 1x/day recommended by a Naturopath. I'm on a grain-free, sugar-free eating plan. My skin is clear and beautiful ag

Pros:

I use Spectrum coconut oil, the one for cooking and/or body and hair. No scent.14 oz jar last a long time, remember a little goes a long way!

Cons:

None

I am mixed w black /white. I use as a hairdress, wash out every 3 days. it has made my hair grow and made it look very healthy. I use all over body as lotion, love it!!!! I have cystic acne and i wash face w cetaphil cleanser then i put coconut oil on at night before bed then. It has stopped the breakouts and my skin is well hydrated which helps wrinkles. I have used this oil for any minor cuts also, works great! Taking away acne scars too!

coconut oil is literally my holy grail. i use a different brand than the one showed, though. i slather some on my face in the morning and before bed and my skin is always so smooth and clear. it gets rid of blemishes and blackheads so quickly it replaces any acne treatment out there. and the best part is that its so cheap, i love it

Pros:

Inexpensive, Natural, Efective Elimination of Acne, Natural Exfoliating and Anti Aging Properties

Cons:

seems greasy at first but soaks in very quickly

This stuff really works. I have tried hundreds of dollars worth of toxic as well as natural products. None of them have been effective, and in fact caused more damage. I was fed up and finally tried this. In three days my bumps are gone and the scars are healing!!! My face is feeling more balanced finally. Here is my regimine: Day and Night Wash with Purpose liquid face cleanser then apply a finger nail size of unrefined organic coconut oil. I massage the oil for a minute. Voila. Thats it.

Pros:

Natural, affordable, smells delicious, has many other uses.

Cons:

It does make your skin shiny at first, but absorbs in about 10-15 min or just put some powder on top.

I've been battling with sever acne for 3 years now, and have been using proactiv for 1 year. Proactiv has helped a lot but always left my skin dry in areas (I can only use it once a day), and I still had minor blemishes constantly. I started using coconut oil on my hair and it smelled so delicious I started using it as a moisturizer. After about a week my skin was feeling great, smooth, soft, balanced (not dry or oily anywhere). Now it's been just about a month and my skin has become clearer all over and there have been no new break outs. How to use: Wash your face with whatever acne wash you use, then take about a a fingernail sized amount of coconut oil and rub it between your palms until it melts, then rub over your face. Highly recommended.

Pros:

I got clear skin from thin product...first time after 13 years!!!

Cons:

made me break out at the beginning. But my skin started to get clear after around one week.

I have skin problems since I was 13 years old. I ve tried everything! Really everything. I have been to a hundred doctors, tried creams, antibiotics, homeopathic stuff, hormonal supplements. Nothing really helped me. My skin was always very oily and all my pores were clogged no matter how often I was cleaning my pores..after a few hours everything was clogged again. I was very desperate, sometimes I did not even leave home because I felt so uncomfortable. I ve read the reviews about coconut oil and I am so happy that i gave it a shot! I didn't want to try this at first because I always had the feeling that coconut made me break out a lot. But well...I was hopeless and I thought I will try this before I go to the doctor for Accutane (I am really afraid if the side effects, especially the one on your psyche). And well it feels like a wonder to me! After a bad break out during the first week my skin started to get clear day by day! My skin is not oily anymore! Some of my pores are still clogged but they don't develop into pimples or cysts! This is how I apply it: In the morning: First I wash my face and on wet face I rub a small amount of oil (Please use organic oil, its white and solid when cold). I wait till my face dries and after about 3-5 min I take a paper tissue to remove the remaining oil. Then I put BPO 2,5% on. No moisturizer on top. Thats it. But you can put make up on top if I want...I always put make up or powder on top. In the evening: Just the part with the oil and no BPO. If you are desperate with your acne, give it a try! I know every skin in different but just don't give up after you break out at the beginning! I also started to eat 1 teaspoon of this oil every day. Have the feeling that its even working better now.

Pros:

antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, soothing, anti-candida,
great for hair, as a face moisturizer, clears up acne

Cons:

eye irritant, make sure to buy 100% unrefined virgin coconut oil (not milk, organic recommended but haven't noticed a big difference)

I absolutely LOVE virgin unrefined coconut oil for my skin! I use it as my regular moisturizer after washing my face and applying whatever OTC acne treatment I'm trying at the time. It always leaves my face smooth and happy. Its also great for hair as its the only oil that penetrates the shaft. Also, as shown in this published medical study [link edited out] , Coconut oil is useful in treating candida so if you have that problem, I would definitely recommend it!

Coconut oil saved my oily acne prone skin!
I've been using coconut oil on my hair for a little less than two years and I've read and seen people online claiming that coconut oil worked wonders on acne prone skin. All this time, I was always reluctant to use coconut oil on face -- it didn't feel right and I was afraid that it was going to clog my pores. About a week, I decided to give it a try and, let me tell you, IT IS the best decision I have ever made in whole life. I haven't had a pimple since coconut oil came into my life. The few pimples/bumps that I had are actually fading away. Also, my face has been getting brighter and healthy looking. My current skincare routine (day/night): - Wash my face with Lush's Herbalism (it's expensive but I don't care because it works. I'd still buy it even if it was a 100 bucks) - Lush's toner water Melaleuca (optional) - Organic virgin coconut oil as a moisturizer (I use less than a dime size, a little goes a long way) - Once or twice a week, I use raw honey mixed with lemon as mask. Leave it on for 15-30 minutes, then I wash it off. I used to do these steps before coconut oil but I was still breaking out. However, my face has drastically changed ever since I've incorporated coconut oil in my skincare regimen.

Pros:

Balancing my combination/oily skin, clearing up my whole face, regulating my system, amazing tropical scent, great as a tanning oil, shaving cream, makeup remover and facial moisturizer

Cons:

None at all

The stuff is miraculous!! I am 23 and have had perfect skin until i was hit with working adult post college stresses. I also just had surgery for endometriosis and had gone through a plathera of birth controls which left me with jacked up oily skin when as a teenager i had normal to dry skin. Long story short, like many others on this site i joined the battle againt acne and have tried everything from benzol peroxide, epiduo, clean n clear, neutrogena, over the counter under the counter, estee lauder clinique... You name it! My skin kept getting worse and worse until i gave up and discovered this acne clearing ALL NATURAL regimine: evening: remove my makeup with coconut oil, wash with an all natural oatmeal soap from whole foods then use half water half acv toner then apply VCO as moisturizer. ( ive tried the refined oil and unrefined and i must say UNREFINED and REFINED DO NOT WORK THE SAME, refined will def break you out, unrefined will not). My morning regimine consisted of washing my face withthe oatmeal soap and adding a tiny amount of coconut oil as moisturizer. First week i noticed that the already existing spots decreased and eventually disappeared within days. Second week my mineral korres foundation was actually lasting throughout the day, third week my skin is back to its normal self normal/dry as opposed to very oily , going into my fourth week no breakouts despite time of month and scarring had significantly decrease and i attribute this to the Vco bc i know ive tried everything else and nothing i mean nothing else has worked!!! Ps i was also taking 2 tblspoons of the oil internally. I would give this a 100 out of 10
