Pros:

it could have been worse
after the initial break out, my skin went almost back to the level of clarity i had before starting ziana... if you can call that a pro?

Cons:

drying
made my skin break out worse (possibly "purging" but my skin never really cleared up)
can be expensive
eventually caused scaly/dry patches
takes effect slowly so you are waiting a long time to see if it works... and for me it didn't

bottom line: i use this product for 11 weeks. i went to the derm because although my acne was pretty mild, i was sick of dealing with it and i wanted a simple regimen. plus, going to college in the fall i really didn't want to have to worry about acne. so i was prescribed this product and went home pretty hopeful. for weeks 1-2 there was pretty much no change in my skin. weeks 3-4 were the worst; i developed worse breakouts than i had ever really had. not horrible but still, kind of the opposite direction than i was aiming for. also my skin was pretty dry, even with make up my skin looked pretty sad. but i had read some reviews on here that said to be patient and the results would be worth it and that this was just purging that would go away. weeks 5-7 my skin got better, and some of the "purging" calmed down. i hoped that i was in the up swing and my skin would continue to get better, so when i saw the derm for a follow up i said i would stick with it. weeks 8-10 my skin basically hovered around a level that was not as sucky as my bad breakout, but definitely worse than my skin prior to ziana. i had some slightly scaly patches and patches of small blemishes. plus i had lots of leftover marks from the initial breakout. on week 11 i was talking to my mom about going back to the derm, and we ended up deciding i should stop using the ziana ("i don't know that it's done a net positive for your skin" my mom said) and go back to my old regimen. i've been back on that for only about 4-5 days, but i feel like my skin is healing from the ziana. ultimately i'm just bummed at the time and effort wasted on ziana and the low self confidence when i could have had better results without a prescription. if you're curious, i do a honey mask, a baking soda mask, and use alpha hydrox (the cream or the souffle, both are good) every night. it takes more time than i would like, but the results are the best i've had yet. my acne stays under control, and i know it's not mak

Pros:

Theoretically, it's a nice combo treatment - antibiotic + retinoid

Cons:

Did nothing to clear my acne
Expensive

Used this some years ago when I was living down south - it was prescribed by my GP who had no idea about skin but said lots of his patients liked it. It did nothing for me and was expensive, so I stopped after a few months.

Pros:

Cleared my blackheads on my forehead consistently

Cons:

Broke me out worse than i was when i started and i am already 3 months in.

Contributed to multiple, inflammed pimpled all over my face.

Supposed antibiotic in it does NOTHING to quell inflammation

Very drying (especially if used in combination with other products)

Not consistent at all as one day I'd be clearing up and the next day I'd be broken out again.

Never stopped new pimples from popping up. Three months in and i still get 2-3 new pimples EVERYDAY.

This was work for some people but in my experience, it didn't work for me. My acne was mild to start with and i ended up getting multiple inflamed pimples that don't have pus, are red and show up on known breakout areas (chin) but also unknown areas (such as cheeks which are normally clear). Very disappointed in the time and effort i was on this product.

Pros:

None

Cons:

Burns skin
Dry skin
Made acne severely worse
Costly

I was provided this product by my dermatologist and initially I was very excited. I was instructed to use a pea size amount for my face each evening. I used the product as directed and my acne became worse day by day. The type of acne I suffer from is primarily hormonal and is cystic in nature (essentially, I get giant knots on my face that will remain for weeks; no whitehead forms; very painful; I mean very painful). The acne became so bad that it was painful to talk, eat, and just throbbed throughout the day. I stopped using this product after one month and I am now trying Aczone as a result. Although this product did not work for me, I anticipate that many others could be successful with Ziana. Unfortunately, I was not so lucky. I hope you all find this to be helpful information.

Pros:

Tube is really big, lasts a long time. It did do SOMETHING.

Cons:

Initial break out that never really ended... Skin super oily

First off, I thought it was important to review this product to warn others of what I experienced. I have had mild acne for years. Its never been really bad, but it is very persistent. After about a two weeks on ziana my face broke out everywhere. At first I was optimistic, hoping this would be the IB that many experience. However, it also made my skin SUPER OILY. It was this that really irritated me and made it impossible for me to go outside during any type of heat. After about six weeks of continually breaking out I decided to stop considering my acne was WORSE THAN IT HAD EVER BEEN and honestly my skin just didn't feel "healthy" with all that oil. I have now been off Ziana for about a week and a half and things are slowly starting to go back to normal. I would be CAUTIOUS when using a product as strong as this. Look at your acne in the mirror and ask yourself if it is really that bad b/c honestly I personally do not think my skin warranted being that broken out for three months only to POSSIBLY be cleared. Sometimes its better to just let it be. Also, my dermatologist gave my absolutely no warning of the havoc this would wreck on my skin! I'm definitely checking acne.org before I put anything on my face again!

Pros:

A lot in a tube (if it actually helps you this could be a pro), first tube is normally free

Cons:

Does not work, exacerbates, inflames existing acne and makes it itchy

I've been on Ziana for about two months now and it has made my acne more inflamed, visible and itchy where it existed before and has given rise to another patch of acne on the other cheek as well which is equally monstrous and seemingly intractable. I was on a Differin/Duac/Doryx regimen that worked pretty well at one point but my dermatologist recommended Ziana, as I wanted something that was a little bit stronger and had been off the DDD combo for around half a year for various insurance reasons. While I appreciate free things, I do not appreciate Ziana, as it has made my acne a lot worse. If possible I would give it a rating of 0. I am going to switch to lemon juice and hope for the best, as the Benozyl Peroxide solution I have been taking has not been up to par either...ugh.

Pros:

Cons:

Initially used this only every other day as prescribed by my dermatologist but it still left my skin very dry. After a few months, I started using it very consistently and it made my skin worse than it's ever been! My breakouts were red, inflamed and painful. I kept hoping things would get better but after several weeks I just stopped altogether. I just started using an OTC benzoyl peroxide cream and that seemed to clear up some of the damage. I'm now using differen gel so hopefully it works.

Using ziana turned my mild acne to moderate/severe acne.

Cons:

More breakouts!!
Scars
Made skin oily

This product is honestly terrible. In high school, I controlled my light acne using over the counter products. When I turned 20, my hormones went crazy, and I started to break out more. At the beginning of January, I saw the dermatologist and she prescribed this and told me my acne would get worse before it got better. I was very skeptical and rightfully so because my acne got worse and stayed that way! It literally made me cry and not want to leave my apartment. I used it for three months and then tossed it. I returned to the derm in mid-March and she prescribed an oral antibiotic and Acanya Gel, which cleared up my skin. I use Tazorac 1% to help fade the scars. DO NOT try this product. It was a huge mistake for me. A friend of mine also tried this product and had a similar experience.
