Pros:

It actually works - I was using Tazorac with little success. Once I switched to this, there was a rapid difference.

Cons:

Leaves face looking oily - if you use right before bedtime, not a big deal.

I use 3 medications - Ziana at night, Rosula NS pads in the morning, and 1 tablet of Doxycycline (100mg) a day - with this combination, my skin has been much improved. It's not perfect - I'll get a zit here and there - it's so much better than it was about a year ago.

Pros:

It seems to work instantly, making skin more translucent and clearing up acne-- not by drying the skin, but by letting it breathe. It also gets rid of acne scars. Unlike other meds, Ziana doesn't irritate the skin. It soothes and smoothes.

Cons:

It's important to pay attention to the expiration date. Recently, I've noticed that mine has not been absorbing very well and is sticky on the surface of my skin. I didn't realize there would be an expiration date, and that has been a problem for me.

Ziana is the best medication I have used, and I recommend it to everyone. I am not speaking from the viewpoint of someone who has struggled with really horrible acne, but from that of someone who occasionally breaks stride because of a little bit of irritation now and then. Ziana seems to work for every skin-related problem, even the ones I didn't know I had. It makes your skin tone more even and balances oil production. It can combat redness or rosacia, bumps under the skin, large pores. I think it might increase the elasticity as well, which just livens your skin [I'm fifteen and my skin is often puffy or blotchy because I don't sleep because adults have made school harder than it was for them.] Oh, and there's one more thing: You don't know what congested skin feels like if you don't use this, because it's likely you've had it your whole (adult) life. Do you know the tingle that you get when your pores are breathing? That is what you feel all the time when you are using Ziana.

Pros:

Exfoliates skin, is not as harsh as Retin-A

Cons:

Is very sticky (but if my skin is going to clear up it is totally worth it!)

I've only been using this for 2 weeks which is why I only gave it a 3 for how well it works. So far, things are so much better! I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The texture of my skin is very smooth and a lot of my problem areas are much clearer. I think I am having some purging but it's 1 or 2 at a time, which, after having my ENTIRE face break out at once recently is manageable! I can't wait to see where I'll be at 4 wks, 8 wks and 12 wks. The thought of having clear skin for the holidays this year makes me really happy! I'll report back and let you know the progress at each stage. PS-There is a rebate on the Ziana website for $35 so it was free for me!

Pros:

Cleared up my acne 99%. Apply only at bedtime. Large tube can last 6-9 months. Thankfully my insurance covers this expensive prescription.

Cons:

Acne did get worse at first but cleared up after 3 months of usage. Expensive if insurance doesn't cover it.

This product may take up to 3 months to show results, so you must be patient. It definitely took that long for me but was well worth the wait. I've had mild-moderate acne for almost 20 years and this is the best my complexion has looked in a long time. Before Ziana I used many over the counter products with not very good results.

Doesn't do a thing for me
18 Female, have had acne all my life but it was always a few zits, nothing too bad. In the past few months I broke out a lot due to stress. Ok so my dermatologist prescribed this to me and advised me to use it before going to bed. It's been a month since I have been using it and honestly it hasn't done anything good for me. But overall Ziana just gets sticky and annoying to sleep with, and I have to wash my pillow case very often because of this. Ziana also makes your skin extremely oily, if you wear makeup you can't use this product because your face will be so shiny. Makes me feel gross! In the 2nd week I broke out A LOT, and I had to go back to one of my old regime's of salicylic acid 2% for a few days and I got cleared up (My skin is too dry for constant salicylic acid). I am going to ask my dermatologist to give me something else because this product is just a very water based gel that is not strong enough for me.

Pros:

Works great and leaves skin feeling soft and brighter. Works perfectly well. The best part of it is that I got it free from my dermatology.

Cons:

Purging period is annoying. Makes your face really nasty at the beginning.

You just have to give it some time to work, about 5 to 6 weeks. After that, it starts clearing out your skin nicely. Stick to it and you will be amazed!

Pros:

I have only been using this for a month so far, but it is easy to apply, dries clear, has no distinct smell, dries fast, is only used once at night.

Cons:

So far, dries my skin, causing irritation, slight itching and burning, purging period is lasting a while!!

I went to the dermatologist on October 4th, 2012. She prescribed me ziana gel, which I am still using the samples since she gave me about 7 of them along with cerave lotion. I have been using this product religiously to this day, so for 27 days or so now. I am getting pretty frustrated and losing hope because my " purging period" seems to be never ending! Although I can say my fine lines have smoothed out. I know I must give this more time but I expected to at least see SOME improvement acne wise by now, but it just seems to be getting worse :/ is this normal? It's been a month already! Anyone have similar problems with good results ? Ha

Pros:

cleared up back and chest
clears acne on face quickly

Cons:

a bit of redness if I use it every night

This worked best for my back and chest. I no longer have any acne in those areas. It works ok on my face. I can't use it every night because it causes some redness, but it does clear up my skin very quickly. I use it about 3 times a week and that seems to work best for my skin. No side effects that I've noticed.

Pros:

it could have been worse
after the initial break out, my skin went almost back to the level of clarity i had before starting ziana... if you can call that a pro?

Cons:

drying
made my skin break out worse (possibly "purging" but my skin never really cleared up)
can be expensive
eventually caused scaly/dry patches
takes effect slowly so you are waiting a long time to see if it works... and for me it didn't

bottom line: i use this product for 11 weeks. i went to the derm because although my acne was pretty mild, i was sick of dealing with it and i wanted a simple regimen. plus, going to college in the fall i really didn't want to have to worry about acne. so i was prescribed this product and went home pretty hopeful. for weeks 1-2 there was pretty much no change in my skin. weeks 3-4 were the worst; i developed worse breakouts than i had ever really had. not horrible but still, kind of the opposite direction than i was aiming for. also my skin was pretty dry, even with make up my skin looked pretty sad. but i had read some reviews on here that said to be patient and the results would be worth it and that this was just purging that would go away. weeks 5-7 my skin got better, and some of the "purging" calmed down. i hoped that i was in the up swing and my skin would continue to get better, so when i saw the derm for a follow up i said i would stick with it. weeks 8-10 my skin basically hovered around a level that was not as sucky as my bad breakout, but definitely worse than my skin prior to ziana. i had some slightly scaly patches and patches of small blemishes. plus i had lots of leftover marks from the initial breakout. on week 11 i was talking to my mom about going back to the derm, and we ended up deciding i should stop using the ziana ("i don't know that it's done a net positive for your skin" my mom said) and go back to my old regimen. i've been back on that for only about 4-5 days, but i feel like my skin is healing from the ziana. ultimately i'm just bummed at the time and effort wasted on ziana and the low self confidence when i could have had better results without a prescription. if you're curious, i do a honey mask, a baking soda mask, and use alpha hydrox (the cream or the souffle, both are good) every night. it takes more time than i would like, but the results are the best i've had yet. my acne stays under control, and i know it's not mak

Pros:

didnt take long for it to clear my skin
didnt really break out like i thought i was going to
brings white heads to the surface
really smooths out skin
skin feels/looks soft and smooth
clear gel
large tube that lasts for a long time
heals popped pimples faster

Cons:

skin is really oily
cant go in the sun too much
still get a few small white heads/pimples randomly and occassionally
dries skin
havent had any bad side effects
no spot treatment?

ive been using this for almost 3 months now. i was surprised that i didnt break out as bad as i read others did (purging) but it was just normal acne for me. it actually started clearing up in like 1.5 - 2 weeks. my skin looked and felt smoother. i just wash my face with olay face wash and then apply 15-20 min later only a pea-size amount like it says. i read somewhere to apply it like 20 min after u get out of the shower/wash ur face or it causes more drying of the skin. i also put on neutragena moisturizer in the morning. definitely such an improvement. not perfect but pretty darn close. def happy with the results. no more worrying and stressing about pimples and how to cover them! :) its also really cheap with my insurance and the card they give u. and the tube seriously lasts forever. annnnd its clear gel unlike some of the other products i use where they r white and i walk around at nite with white stuff all over my face. anyways, i love it :) and def am so glad i got on it!
