Pros:

Works quickly to reduce swelling, irritation, and pain of acne. I used the caladryl clear version, so there is no white or pink residue. Within minutes my skin felt softer, cooler and less irritated.

Cons:

cant think of any

I have been using a daily acne scrub the last 5 days, and my skin is a wreck! It went from 4 or 5 tiny blemishes on my forehead, and several around my mouth and chin, to over 25 blemishes on my forehead!!!! OMG ...the battle got even bigger...I did not use the acne wash today, instead just cleaned my skin with apple cider vinegar and water, then applied the caladryl !! OMG at the improvement within 15 minutes, the blemishes are smaller, the redness is not at noticable and my skin is not hurting and burning

Pros:

Their isn't any chemicals in it

Cons:

N/A

I've decided to write a blog today, because I was curious to see if anyone else used calamine lotion for acne too, after reading that many people have ,I thought I should tell my story, First I am 40 years old and a red head w/ very fear skin, I can't use vitamin E or any products w/ chemicals in them , I have been using calamine lotion sence I was a teenager and used it on everything from coldsores, acne, and exzema, I find it doesn't prevent acne, but it does dry it up fast, also me being fear skinned it also acts as a cover up, over the years I have tried other products and found that they just make it worse, some have taken the skin right off my face:( others cause more acne or have vitamin E in them which causes me to get cysts:( I remeber the first time I went to the Derm, and told him I used calamine he laughed at me, I'm findig that the less stuff in products is better, and the drug company;s probably don't want you to not spend your money on theirs,I'm always going to use this !!

Pros:

Amazing for back acne, inexpensive

Cons:

Didn't help my facial acne

I initially tried this on my face; I knew that it would make my acne come to a head at first. However, after a few days of skin seemingly only getting worse, I stopped using it on my face. HOWEVER, this has worked miracles on my back. I put it on all over my back every night before I go to sleep; it's been about two weeks, and for the first time in probably 8 - 10 years I would feel comfortable wearing a top or dress that shows my back. It seems like a lot of people have had success using it on their face, and it has worked for my back. I would definitely recommend trying this.

Pros:

Cheap, works fast, works well, doesn't contain other ingredients that will irritate skin or clog pores.

Cons:

Slightly drying.

I'm not sure what compelled me to try calamine lotion on my face for my acne, just a hunch I guess. But I did try it about a year ago and was so pleased with the results that I continued using as a face mask at night. It doesn't totally prevent acne, as I still get pimples here and there. But, it really helps get rid of them quickly. Also, the continued use of this product seems to have helped keep my skin clearer of blackheads! I can see how it might be a little drying for some, but I have oily skin so that is not a problem for me. For breakouts I have found that first applying a salicylic acid gel to the face, and then applying calamine lotion (you have to kinda mix it in on your face) works fabulously. Definitely worth a try!

Incredibly Effective
I've been pretty lucky with my skin, but lately I've waged an epic battle with what seems to be a combo of rosacea, acne, and maybe some sort of rash. I have fair oily skin. While I hated the oil in my teens, it has served me well as I get older. In my late twenties my derm told me I had rosacea. That explained why the red spots showing up on my face didn't respond to typical acne treatment. I got it under control and had years of nice skin. I remember getting a facial in my mid 30s and the aesthetician kept remarking about how great my skin was. Recently I was mildly bothered by some flushing and comedones, but not enough to do anything about it. Then I went back to my derm to treat a different issue (stubborn deep pimple that wouldn't go away). She noted that my rosacea was flaring. She gave me scripts for Veltin gel, Finacea, Avace wash and an antibiotic. Due to the expense, I only had the Veltin and antibiotic scripts filled. I really wish the derm would have told me to ease into the Veltin. While on the antibiotic for 30 days my skin looked great. When I went off and was applying a thin layer of the Veltin gel twice daily, my skin freaked out. I was uncharacteristically patient and dealt with the horrible break out for several months thinking this was the purge period from the Retin A. Every night I told myself that tomorrow would be the day that my skin turned the corner'it never was. Eventually, I abandoned the Veltin and expected my skin would recover back to where it had been before that unfortunate visit to the doctor. It didn't. It was fiery red and produced little white heads at an alarming rate. After surfing the web frantically, I tried many things. I took Apple Cider Vinegar tablets and applied a 50/50 ACV/water toner throughout the day. It didn't seem to do much, but I may try it again once my skin is fully recovered. I tried Prosacea, same deal as the ACV'I may try it again when I'm in maintenance mode. I washed my face with pine tar soap. I only tried these things for a short time. My skin was so upset that when I didn't see progress quickly, it was on to the next thing. Three days ago I woke up and was supposed to volunteer at an outside yoga event. I was looking forward to it, but eventually I decided that the heat was going to be very uncomfortable and itchy for my skin. This was the first light bulb that suggested to me that I might be dealing with something like heat rash. It reminded me of the miserable time as a child when I had poison ivy all over my face. This memory sent me to my medicine cabinet. What did I have that might soothe my skin? I had numerous tubes of hydrocortisone itch creams, antibiotic gels, etc'and a very old almost empty bottle of Caladryl Clear'hmm: Poison Ivy and Caladryl. Now I know I don't have poison Ivy, but it sort of feels like it and my mother used to slather me with that pink calamine lotion when I had poison ivy; maybe it would feel good now. I tried it and it was ok. Not quite what I was hoping for but it didn't make it worse. I felt that familiar tightening and drying effect. I decided to go to the drugstore and pick up a bottle that wasn't 14 years old. I also got Ceravae wash and Jason's 84% Aloe Vera Cream. My skin started to feel soothed. Last night I noticed it was a soft pink rather than bright red. This morning there were just a few white heads and a definite decrease in inflammation. My s/o remarked about how much better it was looking. So here is what seems to be working for me: Wash with Ceravae 2-3 times a day. Follow with a layer of Calamine. Once dry, put the Jason's cream over it. I hope it continues to improve. It definitely feels better. I think the Caladryl not only soothes and dries out blemishes, but also provides a protective layer to help your skin heal underneath. The Jason's cream feels fabulous. I found it at a natural foods store. I don't think a typical drugstore carries it. Also the Calamine dries whitish which tones down any redness and can be used as a base that helps my makeup stick and look natural.

Pros:

cleared my skin almost totally!

Cons:

it's time consuming

I've tried basically every face wash/acne cream available and nothing has ever worked, including proactiv, a friend at work told me about using calamine lotion as a mask overnight and it worked! It took about three weeks but my skin is totally clear now

Pros:

-Easy to put on if you shake the bottle and apply it on a kleenex.
-Does not irritate your face.
-Has no smell.

Cons:

-May feel a little weird right after you put it on, when it is drying but that goes away in about 2 minutes.

This product is so amazing. I have bad acne around my neck and on my forhead. On the weekends i wear it all day and night and it reduces the size of my acne and makes some of it go away. I have never found something that works like this. I was so happy when i woke up after about 2 days and I had clearer skin. I would recommend this product to anyone with acne.

Pros:

Worked very well to start with, Cheap, Wear in the day time.

Cons:

Stopped working

It worked well to start with and really faded acne scars but then seemed to stop working after a month of using it. Would use after washing face twice a day. Would definately give it a go though as it did work to begin with.
