Bismuth Oxychloride is a problem ingredient in Bare Minerals
I began using Bare Minerals soon after it became available 10 years ago. Just within the past 3 months I began to notice having Acne and even Cystic Acne. I did not even have severe Acne as a teen!! I am 60 yrs. of age and loved the product until now. If you choose to use this product just be aware it can cause severe skin reactions after many years of use with no problems. Now I will have to throw away almost $100. worth of product due to the ingredient of Bismuth Oxychloride.

I have had the same problem. I never had acne as a teenager and have been trying different foundations as I got older, I am 47 and have been using bare Minerals loose minerals for years. I recently decided I wanted to try the Ready Compact foundation and now for the first time in my life I have breakouts all over my cheecks andlower half of my face. Very dissapointing that we have to waste our money on a product that has ingredients in it that ruin our complexions. Time to look for something else or try swithing back the bare minerals loose foundation which never caused me problems.

Pros:

+It's a light makeup
+When you first buy it you feel good because you feel like your doing a favor for you face.

Cons:

+Light coverage
+Made my face breakout even more than when I used liquid foundation
+EXPENSIVE
+Messy (Don't expect the product to only be found on your face, but your clothes, your counter, your sink...)
+When you first use it you realize you're not actually doing a favor for your face

Alright, I have a huge gripe with this product. 1. Overpriced (period). You can find other products with similar ingredients at a better price. 2. I have combination skin and this not only irritated my skin but also caused me to break out more while making my face feel MORE greasy. 3. The coverage is minimal and the little it offers isn't going to make your skin look or feel any better. I initially looked into this product because I knew the liquid foundation I was slathering on my face everyday wasn't making matters any better for me. I expected a lighter coverage, but it wasn't enough. After using this product for a week I was breaking out in tiny red pimples all over my cheeks (which I never get) then I decided to push through it to test if it actually was the product. After a month I was convinced, I should have never put this stuff on my face. A waste of money, a waste of time, and a waste of getting your hopes high.

Pros:

Makes your skin look glowing
Very light
Easy to apply

Cons:

Made my acne worse and caused large pimples!

I bought this to help cover my acne however it has just made it worse. I tried it a few months ago and it looks fab when you put it on but then I kept on getting more breakouts. My husband suggested it could be the make-up so I stopped using it and went on anti-biotics to clear it up. I thought I would try it again, but the same thing has happened again!!!!! My skin looks terrible again now :( It's a real shame because I really like the look of the product

Pros:

Decent coverage
Luminous effect
Nice consistency

Cons:

Known to cause cystic acne - caused it in me!
Expensive
Not a lot of variety in types of foundation

I used B.E. foundation for years, albeit in my teen years and first year of college I used it sparingly. It wasn't until I had a few bad break outs in spring 2010 that I started using this product everyday to cover up the FEW spots. Throughout the summer developed a pretty serious case of acne (from my own personal experience - 10 to 15 active pustules, a few cystic acnes here and there - not a pretty sight). I didn't correlate me using B.E. with the worsening of my acne since I believed it was healthy for the skin (which it can be for some) and better than liquid foundation. Boy was I wrong. This product contains Bismuth Oxychloride which is in a lot of cosmetic products - including most mineral foundations. It is what gives B.E. its pearly finish and great coverage. Yet this ingredient has shown to cause allergic reactions and CYSTIC ACNE in certain people. I stumbled upon this by mistake when after the "summer of pimples" I went abroad and decided it was the best time to go on a make up strike. Sure enough even with the increased pollution, increased humidity, and all over dustiness of Senegal my face slowly healed with the use of a mild cleanser. When I came home I thought "I can start wearing B.E. again since its not humid or polluted quite as much". Yet sure enough within two weeks I had the same pussy pustules and cystic acne forming on my chin and cheeks that had gone away over the past 3.5 months. Adding in B.E. again was the ONLY factor that I could conclude was causing my acne to flare again. With the advice from online sites and message boards I decided to try Jane Iredale mineral base which does not have Bismuth Oxychloride in it. I have been using it for three weeks and have not had any more issues with cystic acne. I wear it every day along with Este Lauder's Double Wear Stay in place concealer > both have not caused any breakouts with daily use along with Dan's Regimen. more info on Bismuth: [link removed]

not for me
I didn't get a lot of coverage from this foundation. Not sure if i was applying it wrong but i didn't get a chance to really work with it because I started getting cystic acne right away. I have acne prone skin combo/oily.

Pros:

looks good when you put it blends well but not worth what will happen within a few days.

Cons:

DEEP UN-POPABLE PIMPLES. This product will give you the worst acne ever!! it may look nice for a few days, but if you want to try it, go to a store that will take it back- you will regret it

Dont buy!! unless you are old and dont break out at all. if you want to scar up and ruin your face, then go right ahead... My favorite product is Tart's tinted moist. never had a problem and has lighter coverage, but natural and last longer. cost about the same as bare minerals, $26.00

Pros:

Covers acne scarring, redness WONDERFULLY

Cons:

Made me break out worse than i have ever broken out in my life.

Will not use any longer. I have been told by 2 different dermatologists that If you have sensitive skin bismuth, a by product of some metals and an ingredient in this product, can make acne worse. In my case it caused severe acne! There is a natural organic mineral makeup called "afterglow" that does not contain bismuth. Afterglow is about the same price as bare escentuals and they have a much larger color selection. Afterglow is available for purchase online. It is hard to find an actual store that carries it, but well worth seeking it out! Since switching to the mineral makeup without bismuth my acne has cleared.

Don't fall for the hype: do your research

Cons:

Filler ingredients caused breakouts
Dried my skin, making me produce more oily
Light coverage

I was the biggest believer in this make-up for so many years. I thought it was a great alternative to liquid foundation. I always stayed away from liquid thinking it would give me pimples. Looking back, I know realize this was the product that made me break out and get cystic acne in the first place. After switching to a liquid foundation (Arbonne brand) I pretty much have stopped getting the huge cysts I always had in high school. I still break out, but no where near as bad as when I used this makeup. I will never go back!

Pros:

Looks great in dim light
Covers light to medium hyperpigmentation
Matte controls oil (initially)
Looks natural

Cons:

TERRIBLE breakouts in the form of cystic acne
Highlights fine lines and enlarges pores
Expensive
Rubs off easily on clothing and tissue
Leaves skin oily over time

Initially, this make-up made me smile! The coverage was great'until I got in bright or natural light. You could tell where I applied extra as concealer for my dark spots caused by acne breakouts from using this product. I tried all of the natural remedies and other suggestions to treat acne listed on here and other acne blogs, and as soon as my skin began to clear, it would break out again. I cleansed the brushes regularly, thinking maybe I wasn't cleaning them thoroughly, but then I realized that my skin had NEVER been as bad as it was. Tonight, I made the decision to go back to the make-up I had been using since high school, an inexpensive non-comedogenic pressed powder. When I was using my old make-up, I received plenty of comments on how great my skin looked. I haven't received ONE comment since I started using Bare Escentuals. I went from mild, menstrual cycle induced acne to experiencing moderate acne (cystic, black and whiteheads). I'm DONE with this stuff. I am more than positive that Bare Escentuals is the cause of my recent acne nightmare! I wish I would have listened to my instincts earlier and left this crap alone.
