Proactive sucks
The proactive products may or may not work but who cares when all they want to do is get as much money out of you with their "opt-out" online ordering scheme and automatic shipments. My credit card was billed multiple times and shipments arrived on my doorstep without my consent and their excuse was that in checking the terms of agreement box I had agreed to this. Bullsh*t! I didn't ask for an overstock of Proactive. I'll never buy anything from Proactive or their parent company again because of this underhanded way of doing business. I would give it no stars but that's not an option.

Awful, expensive, and it bites you in the ass later

Pros:

none
nothing
don't bother

Cons:

They sell you a kit for $30 and the next kit with automated delivery is $80.
Mainly made of benzoyl peroxide.
Makes your skin very sensitive to water, even. It peeled off some of my face and I had a chemical burn.

I had used it for almost 2 years thinking that it was working, which it did for a while, but then my face started getting worse. It made my face extremely dry, flaky, red, sensitive, and horrendous looking without makeup. In December 2012 I decided to stop completely and in the next few months I started getting cystic acne and it was the worst break out of my entire life. I really regret using proactiv my skin is still way too sensitive and it's July.

Dishonestly marketed junk.

Pros:

Did improve my acne moderately

Cons:

Regularly caused intense irritation
Effectiveness declines
Manipulative marketing draws in insecure younger kids >:/

I used Proactiv all through Jr High. I never experienced the cycle of clearing/intense breakout that a lot of Proactiv users did. What I did see was a moderate improvement to my acne, and sporadic bouts of dryness and irritation that got worse and worse each time. The problem is, if you stop using Proactiv to try and let your face heal from irritation, the acne comes back practically overnight--so it's either deal with horrific breakouts regularly, or use Proactiv on already-damaged skin. Both are painful, unsightly, and end up decimating a young teen's self-esteem. Plus, it seemed to get less and less effective as time went on, until I was basically back where I started, and the Proactiv did nothing BUT cause irritation. Now that I'm older, I've had to talk all of my younger sisters out of using Proactiv--its sensationalist commercials are so seductive to insecure tweens despite its high cost, and the subsequent letdown is even more heartbreaking as a result. I wouldn't be nearly so upset about this product if its marketing weren't so emotionally manipulative and misleading.

STAY AWAY

Pros:

Clears face

Cons:

CREATES more acne after stopping
Expensive
Harsh on anyone's skin

Stay away from proactiv if you do not need it! I used to use it and yes, it worked for a while but when I realized how harsh it was for my skin and found out about all the chemicals in it, I stopped using it. I had decent skin before but after? I started to get little bumps on my forehead, than on my cheeks than my entire face was covered with white heads. Than the big welts of acne started. I have spent so much money on trying to fix my face because of it. Proactiv is good for SHORT TERM use. A month maximum, and only if you have very bad acne. Than get off of it. It's honestly not worth it.

Made my skin extremely dry, itchy and old looking

Cons:

Causes extreme dryness - which leads to wrinkles
Rough, itchy, ugly skin

ZERO STARS! I started using proactiv because i wanted to prevent a breakout after getting off the pill. After three days of using proactiv, it made my skin extremely dehydrated, very very itchy, rough and old looking. I am Asian and do not have any wrinkles. But after three days, I noticed tiny wrinkles appeared out of nowhere!!! I am devastated and stopped using proactiv immediately. Luckily I did not do too much damage to my skin and will keep hydrated inside out to get my skin back to normal. I do not recommend this product at all. I did not know what I was thinking trying this product! I have nothing nice to say about Proactiv. The moisturizers did not help at all. So if you do not have acne, but get breakouts from time to time, stay clear of proactiv. You've been warned!

allergic!!!

Pros:

works (for the most part)

Cons:

i am allergic to it
expensive
cant stop using it

ok well alot of my friends were using proactiv and all with generally the same skin type as me and so i decided to give it a try the very first time i used it my face looked like a tomato the next day it was bright red and it hurt to touch and i thought ok maybe i just used to much and i asked my friends they all said that it happened to them the first time they used it to and so i decided to keep trying it and so i was using it for a while and then stopped and tried a different on and went back to proactiv no problems it was working and my skin was clearing up (my skin wasn't that bad before) and so then i started breaking out in to hives on my neck and i thought it was my foundation so i started using a different one and i was still getting hives and my neck was itchy etc. the thing is i have never had sensitive skin and my acne has never been that bad like it was bad but not severe but obviously when i figured out i was allergic to proactiv i stopped using it, the only thing about when you stop using proactiv ur skin goes insane, because ur skin gets "addicted" to proactiv when you stop it freaks out and breaks out even worse then it was before (which is what is happening to me now) and everyone i know who is off proactiv slowly went off it like they would go from everyday to every other day to every two days etc etc which i cant do cuz i am allergic to it. the other thing is well on proactiv it actually is painful to put anything that isnt from the proactive line on your face.

Pros:

none!

Cons:

expensive
ineffective

Proactiv and any of its knock offs do not work. Try zapzyt with moisterizer, its 1/4 of the cost and works in a week, where as you could spend $40 a month on proactiv and never really see results.

Pros:

It's not damaging to your face.

Cons:

Does not stop or prevent acne from forming.

I used Proactiv from age 12 to 14. It did nothing to help my acne once I started getting cysts. This is a product for mild acne due to enviromental factors and not for hormonal acne.

Cons:

Dried out skin, irritation

I took this a long time ago and it did nothing for my skin. I feel like topical creams don't get to the underlying problem anyways...

Pros:

- it worked for a while before it effed me over.
- the refining mask was good for drying out pimples overnight

Cons:

- dries out skin
- scam
- expensive and not alot of product
- ineffective long term
- breaks you out like a motherffff
- you wont want to leave the house bc you have such bad skin

DO NOT BUY PROACTIV IF YOU ARE A SMART PERSON WHO DOESNT WANT TO PAY A COMPANY FOR A FACE FULL OF PIMPLES. NO THANKS Words cannot describe how enraged and scammed that I feel. I have had acne since elementry school. after seeing how 'magical' proactive is cracked up to be i decided to order it. So yeah at first it worked. And then youre like oh yeah!!! Found the secret! But no gullible consumers that is not the case. Proactive worked. Then stopped working. And thats when the nightmare starts. It really just irritated my skin so bad that it broke me out all over my cheeks (i never had breakouts there). Now im ashamed to walk out of the house and my self esteem has tanked below zero. I have such anger for proactiv that i made an account on this website to let yall know so you wont end up like me. It was theft thats what it was. Youre dependant on their stupid system that doesnt end up working long term... and then when you go off it to try something else you get a whole party of shhiiiit on your face.
