Ugh I'm so conused. I've been using Aqua Glycolic for exactly a month today and recently Ive had about 4 new zits on the left side of my face. It seems like my face is beginning to get worse. Whats going on guys? HELP =( Is it my regimen thats the problem?

well,

the neutrogena healthy face lotion has a few comedogenic ingredients. The dove sensitive skin beauty bar has many big poree clogging ingredients in it, which confuses me because it is really a well rated product.

maybe those are the culprits to your recent problems?

Try gentle cleansers like Basis and Purpose.

Lauren -

I know a lot of people like Dove to wash their face, but it really isn't a gentle cleanser, despite saying it has moisturizer in it. Dove is a great soap, but very drying to the skin on your face. I washed my face with it for years before I realized that it was not doing good things for my skin. It may not be the same for you, but with what your currently going through, I would switch to something more gentle like Ponds if you are just looking to remove make up.

ooh. i really like how dove feels too 🙁 how bout using some Cetaphil to take off the makeup, since I have some still?

do you know for sure that it is the healthy face lotion. Though most likely you won't find any other lotion or oil out there that doesn't have a comedogenic ingredient in it, that can also even out your red marks. So stick with that lotion for now probably, and if its still breaking you out jsut take it out of your regimen, because it's better to keep pimples off your face so they don't leave behind more red marks.

I should get my AG cleanser the comming week. Is it so that I should avoid sun (in solarium) when using this? I was thinking of going to solarium 10 minutes every weekend, Ive done it the last two weeks now. I belvie it can clear acne, and I also get nicer looking skin all over.

That would probably be better. As the poster after me said, Dove can really clog pores big time. Something more soothing and gentle like Cetaphil would be better.

I've noticed that some of you said that Cetaphil is bad, and I think I'm beginning to agree. I've noticed that I ONLY develop any kind of acne of any sort during the day, NEVER at night anymore (in fact my face seems to improve 10 fold over night). In the morning I wash with AG cleanser, then use the PEL Basics Blemish Control Cream and the Cetaphil SPF 15 over that, and at night I cleanse with AG again and then use Emu Oil and the PEL Basics Blemish Control Cream. It seems to me that the Cetaphil is causing my breakouts... And after looking at the ingredients and then looking at the list of known comedogenic ingredients on this site, most of the ingredients in the Cetaphil are on the known-to-be-comedogenic list here, even though the bottle claims to be "non-comedogenic". I just started using the PEL Basics Sun Protection Creme today (which uses ingredients such as zinc oxide, titanium oxide, shea butter, and green tea), so I'm gonna see how this stuff works... It's also good because it's not white, so it doesn't leave a white film on your face.

Update:

Been using only AG cleanser for a week. things seem to be calming a bit, but still breaking out. REALLY trying to keep my hands off and not picking so much. No more toner, no Alpha Hydrox souffle. Follow up with Cetaphil SPF 15 moisture during the day, removing makeup after work with Cetaphil cleaser and regular Cetaphil before bedtime.

If Cetaphil is causing problems, can someone recommend the gentlest, most non-comedogenic things instead that I can use for a:

-SPF moisture (neutrogena or aveeno maybe?)

-removing makeup (a cream of somesort, or Purpose maybe? I have an old, yet unused bar of Basis with tea tree oil i think...is that better than Cetaphil, or because it is a bar, is it drying or would count for a "third wash" during the day? just something to get all the makeup off my face!!)

-regular moisture (lac hydrin 5 or Complex 15 maybe? are these non-comedogenic?)

hate buying MORE products, but want to use the most gentle things on my face, and if Cetaphil is not, please tell me what is!!!

For an SPF moisturizer I know Aveenos looks tempting and I really love their products but their SPF/moisturizer is really crap. Broke me out after it made me extremely oily. I love Neutrogena's Dry-touch though, but it's not moisturizing..

Have you tried jojoba oil maybe for a really simple moisturizer? It takes a bit of rubbing in but it does make your skin soft and I've heard it helps with redmarks..

Sorry to not be much help, maybe if you take this to the cosmetics forum you could get more help 🙂

Hi, I hope I get the cleaser soon, almost 2 weeks since I ordered.. I'm thinking of using only the cleanser and maybe some aloa vera gel. Do you think that is good? And should I avoid solarium (I've been taking it 10 min each weekend to try clear acne) Should I use anything else?

Hope I can get answer now.

Update: So since I went off the regimen and started the AG, my face was SO greasy. Tried the toner as someone suggested. Didnt help. Kept breaking out. Figured it was product overload. So just used AG. No improvement. So new plan is to wash with Purpose and use an SPF moisture during the day and Alpha Hydrox at night. STILL greasy! I noticed my face looked shiny after the moisturizer but kept using it.

This morning I did an experiment and didnt use the Cetaphil SPF moisture. Just washed face and put on makeup. So far NO shine. When I was on the regimen, I guess my face wasnt shiny because the Cetaphil balanced out the dryness from the BP. But without the BP, the Cetaphil is WAY too much moisture and must have been what was making me so greasy all along. So maybe I dont need a moisturizer during the day afterall?

You're greasy because of the BP you used to use. The extra oil should subside after a while, just stick with it.

You saw no improvement at all. Thats strange! I have very sensitive skin and I have seen some improvement. Some of my redmarks have faded completely (where purple before and now theyre gone), I havent been havign cystic pimples. Were you putting it on dry skin first like it says to?

Hi Lauren. Sounds like things have calmed a bit. YOu still need some type of sunscreen. Does your mineral make up have zinc oxide in it? If so that should give you adequate sun protection (it does for me).

I've been off BP for more than a month now. I doubt thats why I'm greasy. Plus like I said, today I didnt use the Cetaphil SPF moisture and Im not greasy.

BP only= dry

BP+Cetaphil SPF moisture= normal

no BP+Cetahil SPF moisture = shiny and greasy

no BP+no Cetaphil SPF moisture = normal

Well my marks have faded a bit, but I really broke out bad. It may still take some time for my skin to get used to AHA, so I am not giving up on AHA yet. Going to try another month or so. And yes I ALWAYS put it on dry. But I am not using it anymore and just using a regular mild cleanser and including my AHA in cream form only.

I'm sure I do still need a sunscreen, in fact I feel nervous without doing so. But my experiment today proves that it was the Cetaphil making me greasy. So I would like to find a nice, mild, oil-free, (even oil CONTROLLING) SPF lotion would be nice!

I've had a hard time finding a good sunscreen, and right now I like Paula's Choice Essential Moisturizing Sunscreen SPF 15. It doubles as a moisturizer for me. I'd really like to try a mattifying one or one for oily skin, but I have a problem with avobenzone, which she puts in all her sunscreens for possibly acne-prone people. 🙁 Maybe you could try one of those? The price and shipping are pretty good. (The one I use does not dry matte, although I've seen worse.)

The Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch line is good, too. It dries very matte; it actually dried too much over Duac. Ultimately, I couldn't handle the fragrance, though.

i think the best moisturizer to use is the neutrogena healthy skin lotion with aha

and is also spf 15

i love this moisturizer so much.

it tingles a bit when you put it on.

but it really continues to make your face lookin better more and more

it took awhile to get used to at first.

but the moisturizer has really cleared me up

i put this on after using the neutrogena pore refining toner.

something i just added to my regimen and am seeing a huge difference in skin clearing up ..

use neutrogena healthy skin for moisturizer!

its rated high

This is what happened to me, but I had only been using the product for about a week. So here is my question: I was using this because I thought it might keep my acne away, but does it bring stuff to the surface or something in sort of a "cleansing" process or is the product just not agreeing with me? I want to know before I toss it.

I had a pretty rotten IB for the first week. Took one month to really see good results. That is just my experience, and I am not just using the AG.
