I am a 17 year old girl and have been struggling with acne for a while now. I have what I think is closed comedones. They are skin colored and small, but aaaaalllllll over my forehead and around my mouth. Some are also on my cheeks. I think I have oily skin because when I get farther into the day all my forhead is shiny and my nose and chin. I just bought Neutrogena's Clear Pore cleanser/ mask and am using Finacea gel as my topical treatment. I have been using Finacea for a little over a week now. I was on proactive for a while but then I decided to stop because it had stopped working for me. Since then my comedones have been getting worse. I tried cetaphil as a cleanser but it didn't do much or anything for my acne. Once I got on Finacea after a couple of days I switched cetaphil to the Neutrogena one. I use Finacea morning and night including the Clear Pore cleanser. I was wondering if these products will help with my type of acne and if so when should I be seeing results? I heard Finacea takes about two weeks to work. I also read that sulfur would be good for my type of acne. Is that true as well? I would reallly appreciate feedback or suggestions! I feel like nothing will work with my type of acne. It looks so horrible :( I've tried so many things!!! Help!

Crikey these suck!

So many people have these and don't know what they are. Your lucky you do.

Here is what works: AHA & BHA's.

Salicylic Acid

Glycolic Acid

These will get rid of them.

I recommend a Salicylic acid pad or Paula's Choice Glycolic Acid Gel.

I believe Glycolic is slightly better.

Now, there will be something called a purging. The closed comedones will emerge into a real pimple. Within a month, your forehead will be clear.

If you want to get rid of the purging faster:

Continue using your Glycolic/Salicylic and use this product:

Clean & Clear 10% Persa Gel Benzoyl Peroxide for spot treatment.

Once they purge and turn red,

Use the Benzoyl Peroxide on the inflamed pimple. This will dry it up and get rid of it faster.

The Benzoyl Peroxide can be found at ANY drugstore.

Paula's Choice ONLINE

Noxzema Salicylic Acid Anti Blemish Pads ANY drugstore

I'm praying for you, mate.

Best of wishes,

WadeX

try using baking soda as a scrub few days. its very alkaline so i follow with an apple cider vinegar mixed with water toner (1/3 acv 2/3 water) which is acidic and it balances the ph of your face. use the oner every day and after a week its no better try aztec clay..

Who toold you it was closed comedones? Cuz i was told mine was closed comedones by a deamatologist. Luckely i sometimes get fanatic, and go on a reseach spree. i fell over an infection called "pityrosporum folliculitis" which is not acne, or closed comedones."pityrosporum folliculitis" (i suggest you type in https://www.google.dk/search?hl=da&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1920&bih=971&q=pityrosporum+folliculitis&oq=pity&gs_l=img.3.2.0l10.3826.4400.0.6071.4.4.0.0.0.0.100.340.3j1.4.0....0...1ac.1.64.img..0.4.338.8605-jFyTjo . If the closed comedones are not going away, it can be a sign that its not closed comedones. closed comedones are a build up from skin cells,"pityrosporum folliculitis" are a build up of yeast. The threatment is a simple threatment, taking only 10 days. http://www.aocd.org/?page=PityrosporumFollicu . i dont know if this might be it, but it's worth reseaching.

Finacea helps, but what really works is a topical retinoid like Retin-A (tretinoin). I use both finacea and tretinoin and they work really well, although I owe my smooth skin to tretinoin for the most part :)
