hi guys

im half way through my fourth pack and there has been a drastic improvement in my skin.

i was also a dianette user in my teens (Im 26 now) and i remember it took longer for my skin to clear but once it did, it was amazing! as in not a single spot and enough for people to make cmpliments.

i think it has kicked in quicker this time around because i actually fell pregenant in january 07 but lost my baby and after that i had a lot of problems with my hormones because my body still thought it was carrying the baby (it was one of the worst times of my life). although i did not want to go on the pill, looking at my spotty face was a constant reminder of the baby i lost. i did not feel like myself and became quite depressed. but now i am strating to feel like my normal self again and although nothing can bring my lost baby back, to have my pre pregnancy face stare back at me when i look in the mirror is a huge healing factor.

stay on dianette, i have used it twice a and on both occassions it did not let me down.

i am sure it will work for you, just hang in there. if it worked the first time around it suggests that your body responds to the hormones in dianette so it will do the same again!

i also started taking slow relase high potency vit C tablets along with zinc. i dont know if it helps with acne but really helps to brighten up the skin.

Im mid way through month 5 now and havent got any inflamed pimples for a few weeks now, but after coming off minocycline have been getting a few tiny little whiteheads. Does anyone know if antibiotics can be taken whilst taking dianette as I have a appointment with my doc on wednesday to discuss it and dont really want a topical!? x

I'm not really sure, maybe depends on whether antibiotics can damage the liver too because I know Dianette can and both together might be too taxing on the body.

I've still not seen any improvements with my skin so ended up getting a topical antibiotic to keep using with the Dianette. I'd be interested to know what your doc says, let us know how it goes.

I finish my 2nd pack on Friday. My skin's had the same pre-bleed flare it had last month...got a really painful spot on my top lip and another painful one on my chin. I've noticed I've started getting little spots on the mouth area on the sides of my chin, which I'm hoping is just my body adjusting to the hormones. They have appeared after having 3 days with little sleep, a rubbish diet and without my usual regimen, so I don't think that's particularly helped!

It's difficult to tell whether Dianette's having much of a positive effect when I still have so many red marks all over my skin...sometimes I can't tell which red marks are spots and which aren't! I feel quite in control of it at the moment though, whereas I didn't before starting Dianette.

Only real side effect at the moment is that my boobs feel quite full and sore, not to the extent that they make daily life impossible or anything though!

With Dianette i'm finishing my second packet tomorrow, and its working a lot better than the Zineryt I was on. Not to mention its far more practical than the Oxytetracycline I was originally prescribed. I think its improving my skin all over, however I need to start the regimen to really keep my skin at bay. Its time to spend the last of my Xmas money on skincare stuff!

I've just started my 4th packet and think I'm beginning to see an improvement as no new spots for a few days now. The only think is I feel so depressed and scared about I don't know what which has seemed to coincide with the cessation of spots. I still have marks but while I look loads better I feel really bad inside. Has anyone else experienced this?

I keep feeling depressed and I think it's the dianette, I just find it a real struggle sometimes to get myself out of it, I never had times like this before I was on it (unless there was an actual reason for me feeling sad). My skin has never been so consistent before which I am glad of, but I don't like the days I feel down.

This happened a couple of years ago when I used to be on it (I had a break for a while). It's not that I hate myself or anything, it's just little things seem to trigger me off feeling emotional, a bit like what happens usually before I start my period. But now it's a lot deeper where I have to snap myself out of it, usually by having a laugh watching a comedy or talking to a friend. It usually happens at night when everyone's going to sleep and I'm alone thinking about stuff, and it was worse at uni where I was alone like that more times in the day. I have a bit more control of myself now though so it might be ok.

I'm gonna wait and see what the first month of uni is like and if I feel really low again I'm gonna have to come off it cos it's not fun. Just wondering what else I'll turn to though cos it's great for my skin :(

So I went to see the doc this morning and he explained why there were a few reasons why he did not repeat prescribe my minocycline with the dianette. Firstly because as an antibiotic it makes dianette less effective as a contraceptive, secondly becuase as Vella thought they both put a lot of strain on the liver, and thirdly he said docs are becoming more encouraged to precrible lymecycline as an alternative to mino as it tend to be more effective in more people and have less side effects.

he was very understanding and said I could still have the mino if I wanted but to be aware of this and suggested I chose either dianette or an antibiotic. However, as I have just got to the stage where I was getting no new breakouts with dianette and then started getting them again when I came off mino, which was pretty gutting after getting all excited anout being clear, I chose to stay on dianette and go on lymecycline, so hopefully fingers crossed these breakouts will clear up again!!!! x

Bleed number 2 is now here. Skin is flaring. AARGH. I get eczema on the back of my hands too which always flares up when it's the time of the month, what is it with hormones and my skin?!

I'm finding I can't wait to get on to the 3rd packet because I feel so protected when taking Dianette. I've noticed even after only being on the break for about 3 days that my skin is greasier and I feel pretty gross.

I took dianette a few years back and it really cleared me up , I came off it due to mood swings , depression etc. But as you know my acne came back and worse!

I decided to go back on it last September as my skins was just terrible on my face, chest and back. its cleared up i tback and chest and my face is a little better. HOWEVER - the moods swings are back and worse, I have severe depression and paranioa. What am I supposed to do?

I am thinking about coming off it as I cant bare the emotional effects of it.

Hi all, I've started Dianette today...there seems to be a mixture of responses on this thread so I hope it works! My skin isn't looking too bad atm due to me being on antibiotics, but I've stopped the Lymecycline as of today so it's just the Dianette from now on...fingers crossed!!

Sammy you're doctor sounds crazy to take you off after 6 months, it might not even have worked by then and you'll just end up with messed up skin and hormones. If your skin is sensitive to hormones it might break out again when you come off. Can you ask to see a specialist?

Anna - good luck, my skin got worse after first starting dianette and about 3 months to settle down though not sure if that is the dianette working or the duac she prescribed on my last visit. Fingers crossed for you :)

I used to take Dianette, it totally cleared up my skin and I was so happy with it. Drawback was it made me so depressed! I was crying at everything and loads of things got me down. Best advice if this happens to you, come straight off it, cause the feeling is not worth it!!

Hmm, I'm not quite sure what to think now!

I was considering dianette because my friend was put on it and after four months she now has almost flawless skin. Although she did have acne, it wasn't the reason she was on the pill but a pleasant surprise when it cleared her up.

After reading about it and discovering more and more people who say that it made them depressed I began to worry though, since I often feel quite down and have mood swings. I also don't like the idea of going on it and then having my skin deteriorate after I come off it, possibly to an even worse state than before. So I'd like to know, is there anyone that had a completely positive experience with dianette or even any other contraceptive pills which are supposed to help with your skin?

It's only been a couple of weeks on Dianette so I've had no noticeable improvement yet, though I haven't had a big breakout yet either (touch wood), which I was worried about after stopping antibiotics and waiting for Dianette to kick in...

I have experienced breast tenderness as a side effect, which I gather is common, but I've also had these sporadic tummy aches-kind of like a faint period pain-and wondered if anyone else had these? It's quite annoying because every time I feel it, it feels just like my period is about to start (which, of course, it isn't as I'm still in the pill weeks), but I haven't experienced any spotting either...?

I'm on my 5th packet and not sure whether working or not. Doc gave me some duac to use as well and this seems to have been really good for clearing me up. Every time I try to stop using it (which I want to do because I thinnk its stopping my red marks from fading) my skin seems to get greasy again and this time only 2 days of not using it and I have a spot. So I think it is the duac which is keeping me clear not the Dianette.
