@Jacklyn86and @ShooberI think I have the exact same problem. I just started taking acyclovir (and will switch to longer acting one soon). Do you remember if you had to pull out the white plugswhen you first starting taking it to get them to heal?
I also have visible white pores in my chin crease that are typically hard to extract but loosened considerably when I started the acyclovir. Just curious if theres any connection.
Thank you both a million for posting. Like others, Ive wrestled with this for years and am eager for resolution. After so much googling I found this thread.
I hope Im not tempting fate but after literally years and years of suffering with these terrible plugs I have recently seen a dramatic improvement.
I have been taking a natural Candida cleanse and yeast support supplement daily, cutting down heavily on sugar and using sulfur cream and hydrocolloid patches on the plug patches. For the first time in over 30 years I am totally clear of these awful awful plugs and spots.
I have tried to cut down on touching the spots but as we all know they just wont heal until those plugs come out!
The only other thing I have found in anyway effective is to use heavily diluted bleach - just dabbed on gently with a cotton bud but please be careful if you do this - it was a last resort for me as I had literally tried everything and my life had become dominated by these hideous spots.
I have been spot/plug free for a few weeks now with no sign of anymore coming. Its early days but I havent been in this position for years and years. I had given up hope of ever being free of them.
I hope you all find a solution that works for you.
@PollyDollycan you share exact products? Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Ok guys....I've finally found what works!!! I'll put it first and then you can read on to hear my story which sounds a lot like all of yours.
Newkey LED light Mask on Amazon $150. I've always known that light therapy is key for all kinds of skin issues but usually the devices that actually work to penetrate the skin are way too expensive. But I was at my wits end and had read about this one and it has almost 3000 five star reviews....people with photos showing their results and I figured I'd give it a shot. And WOW!!!! You guys....usually these stupid wounds take WEEKS to heal, and by the time they do there's already 5 more to take their place.....but my ENTIRE FACE healed in SIX DAYS!!!! I haven't had a clear face in 6 years!!!! Please please try this!!!
Betadine cream....a big dollop on top of each spot....it turns those little fingerlike plugs into spoogy mush within minutes. You'll see in the photos I'll add...as soon as the yellow gunk poured out, I'd wipe it off and add some more. It was like nothing I've ever seen. Because these little bastards are usually stuck in there like concrete posts....but this Betadine cream being plopped on there somehow made them dissolve. I've tried betadine before but I had only wiped enough to clean the area....I'd never spread it on thick and let it sit before. It changed everything! It cleared out those dumb plugs and made it much easier for the mask to do its job!!
Now for my story:
I've been dealing with this for 6 years now and following this thread for 2 years looking for answers. I've gone to 4 different Dermatologists.....none of which were helpful. And like most of you, they refused to test my skin to see what these things were or what the problem is despite years of failing every kind of treatment you can imagine. Believe me, I've tried everything....because I'm also an RN and worked on wounds in the hospital for more than a decade. So I even tried using my own education and expertise to try to find the root cause. I have been on EVERY oral and topical antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal, antiparasitic, steroid, acne treatments, diuretics.....you name it, I've been treated with it and NONE OF THEM WORKED. In fact, my face got worse and worse!! To the point even my scalp was covered and my hair was falling out as a result. I cried and begged these doctors and NONE of them helped. It's disgusting that I can take my dog to the Vet for a rash and they immediately scrape her skin to identify to problem and provide accurate treatment but yet as a human.....doctors would rather run my immune system into the ground and destroy my gut and bacteria balance in the process. So unfortunately, I still don't know what the hell those nasty little plugs are.....but I finally have a clear face for the first time in 6 years. My youngest son is 6 and he's never gotten to experience a normal life with me because my face has gotten so bad with these huge, gaping holes and sores on my face that I've barely left the house unless it was necessary. I was even wearing a mask at work long before covid because I was so embarrassed but also worried about then getting further infected. Full disclosure, it caused me an intense depression--feeling like I'm missing out on life and watching as my family missed out on things because they understood how embarrassing it was for me to sit in a restaurant and try to eat as my sores would crack open and bleed or they'd just be weeping fluid and I'd have to carry a napkin to blot it away constantly, taking any attempt to cover it with makeup with it. I barely have any photos of myself in the last 6 years because of it.
I'm adding photos so you can see for yourself. My face has been covered in these for years, relentlessly. Always having areas distorted with fluid filled masses underneath or gaping wounds. I would feel so dry yet somehow greasy. I'd feel inflamed constantly and my skin looked and felt like as if I had a dried up clay mask that was cracking and trying to fall off. And after just 6 days with this mask and the betadine (Which I only used for the first 2 days to get the plugs out), my face not only cleared up but it also FEELS AMAZING!!! It's soft and supple and actually feels healthy!!
I would like to add that I did identify that eating eggs and a lot of dairy was a trigger for me. I've started eating some dairy again to see if it's still a problem.....so far it hasn't been a issue!! Which is awesome because I really really miss eating eggs. Haha
I also only use Vanicream face wash. It's the most gentle of anything, even more than Cera-Ve etc. They have a whole line of products which are great and cheap at Walgreens or Walmart.
I urge you all to try this mask because believe me....I've read every thread on here and I've tried more products and treatments than everything I've read and THIS WORKED!!!
Absolutely Fizika!
I wanted to add that I wasn't doing anything extra for my skin when I tried this. Whenever I try something new I make sure I'm not overlapping treatments because I want to ensure the results. So I know this was what actually worked.
I alsowantedto stress the importance of a few points:
Not all LED masks work. They must be strong enough! Most of the ones they sell on Amazon or the cheap ones you find online or at Walmart are NOT sufficient and the LED lights are too weak to penetrate the layers of the skin. That's why I included a photo and the name of the specific one I bought because it DOES WORK. It's the only one I've found under $300 that actually does the job. The Newkey LED Mask on Amazon does work!! It's $150 which is an absolute steal!! The mask did purge one smallextra spot within one of my sores on my face which quickly started healing the next day. This is completely normal as we all know.In the reviews, others noted a little more purging so it just depends on your skin or situation. But I think most of us know that most skin treatments and products do this. I was happy to find that I only had one little spot that was barely anything. But again....I started using the mask on Monday with huge gaping holes and by Wednesday they were already healing enough that I could cover them up with makeup, no weeping and the fluid masses had disappeared and by Friday, the holes were already closed.
And as for the betadine.....YES, you really have to put a gob of the cream on it and let it sit. That was what made ALL the difference. Cuz I've used iodine and betadine multiple times but only to clean the spots. I don't know what made me decide to goop it on one day but I did and within minutes my face started kindatickling,so I went back to the bathroom to see what was happening and saw that all the plugs had turned into big blobs of yellow mush. Some of them only needed one application but others needed several. Where I just put it on, waited for it to draw out all the yellow mush and then wiped it off and added some more. Depending on the sores, you might have to wait till the next day for it to purge a little and go at it again.
I even put it on my entire face after that and had multiple areas of stuff get sucked out that didn't even have sores or plugs yet!
What really pisses me off the mostis that I wanted to try light therapyyears ago but the stupid doctors kept saying "lets get yourskin under control and then we'll start looking at light therapy".....?!?!?! I could have had clear skin YEARS AGO if only these doctors would have focused on WELLNESS rather than wealth ---pushing nothing but drugs drugs drugs that didn't work. Refusing to even LISTEN to me. I even had two doctors LAUGH right in my face when I offered suggestions! As a Nurse, I was horrified that medicalprofessionals would act this way, dismissing me and ignoring my concerns, even when I sat there crying my eyes out. And I have medical knowledge to know the right things to say to back up my suggestions.....so I felt terrible for all those who don't and have to feel so helpless. Because that's exactly how it feels.
No more hiding!!! I've been outside every single day since!! Going to stores, taking long walks, playing tennis, driving with my windows down.....because I'm not ashamed of my face anymore!!! And it's been so wonderful!!!!

My bad if I'm wrong, but this post throws off some red flags to me:
- Seems very keen to promote an expensive and very specific product
- The poster's profile picture features on the internet as part of a website around customising Crocs shoes (reverse image search)
- The poster's close up photos (skin type, hair colour etc) do not seem to match those seen in the profile picture
Again, my bad if I'm wrong, but I'd hate to see people desperately seeking a cure (just like I am!) get conned so just thought it best to point out the red flags I noticed.
@SkinAccount I understand where you're coming from but I swear to you, I'm a real person. Oddly enough, your reverse image search took you to the Princess Pumps page? They're the shop that made the Crocs I'm wearing in my photo. As I'd said in my post, I'm an RN and when I posted my review and photos of my shoes on their etsy shop they asked to use my photo to promote Nurses during COVID. If you go to their shop on Etsy, I'm sure you'll find my review of my Crocs.
As for the the mask.....It's actually not expensive at all as far as legit photo therapy devices go. Quality devices that actually work cost anywhere from $400-$1000. And they only come with one color so you have to buy two if you want a different color. I've actually gotten product info from various spas here in Scottsdale because I was going to just blow the money, knowing that's what I needed, but kept hesitating because $1000 is a lot of stinking money!! So that's the entire reason I was so excited about this mask --BECAUSE I found a mask that's actually affordable, that ACTUALLY WORKS. One photo therapy session alone costs $150 at a med spa! But obviously we need weeks or months of this so who can afford that?!?! I had actually saw this mask 2 years ago on Amazon but there's lots of masks on Amazon and I knew cheap masks don't have the proper power to be effective like the devices they use in med spas so I didn't bother. But by this year, especially the last 6 months, problem seemed to go systemic and I started having hives and welts and rashes everywhere, and the sores spread all over my scalp, also causing severe hair loss. Not to mention I'd been on every med possible and all treatments failed. So I went back back in search of this mask and started reading through the nearly 3000 positive reviews, including ones from spa professionals. I knew I had nothing to lose and could always send it back if it didn't work. I was out of other options and wanted to try this mask BEFORE I went and bought one of those super expensive ones the girls from the med spas had recommended.
I swear I'm not a promotor for anyone. I've just been following this thread for a few years now, suffering in misery like everyone else, desperate for answers. Even as an RN working in the hospital for over decade working on every kind of wound and being in the military as a Medic.....none of my knowledge or expertise mattered with these horrible little life ruining plug sores. Because I've used that knowledge to try everything and failed. So when this worked, the first place I wanted to share it was here on this thread. Because I know EVERYONE here is just as desperate and confused and frustrated as I've been. And I hoped it might be someone else's saving grace too.
I will say....I've been using it just over a month and I got a little busy last week and missed 5 days of using it and already had a new spot surface. The typical regimen is 4-5 times per week so I basically missed the whole week. I made sure to get my ass in gear and get back on track and the spot started clearing again after just 2 days (as opposed to the usual 2-3 weeks it usually takes). Obviously over time, I won't have to be so diligent but right now I've got 6 years of this severe case to reverse and it's well worth it. I literally wear it while I'm watching TV.
If it helps....I'll add some photos.
My face a few years ago....cuz it's been this way forever.
Me and my Dobie last month, I'm wearing makeup but it obviously never helped.
The infamous Crocs from Princess Pumps
And me today!!
@SkinAccount Hey I wanted to add....good lookin out though! I know you were just trying to make sure there wasn't a scammer on here trying to mess with anyone. And that's awesome. Having each other's backs is why this thread exists! Because unfortunately, we've been failed by too many people already, especially by the medical community. (I could rant and rave about that for hours but I'll spare everyone haha)
My husband actually found this thread for me and it was the first time I'd ever gotten any validation in the things I'd been saying about my face! No one would ever listen! And after I read this thread I finally felt like I wasn't alone. I was still horribly depressed, but at least I had proof that this was definitely a really big issue that wasn't something I was doing wrong or personally causing.
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for lookin out

@Kiki RN Thanks so much for your reply and sorry for the doubt! I've also been following this thread for the longest time and I understand your pain! I've actually finally been referred for light therapy at the hospital so I'll check in with everyone here with the details of the protocol if it ends up helping Who knows, maybe light treatment is what we've all been looking for (fingers crossed!)
Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences and photos etc. Your crocs/hair/face are all beautiful! This awful mystery skin thing doesn't define us Best of luck with your journey!
@quinzee I was about 32 when this started but after I had my second son when I was 34 was when it started getting really bad. I'm 40 now. I definitely DID NOT pick at all because for the first year or so it was pretty mild so I thought maybe it was cold sores from stress. (3-4 spots at a time around by chin/mouth) Reason I thought it was cold sores.... they looked just like cold sores. There would be a bunch of fluid under the skin and then the skin would slough off and it would just be an open sore. It would just weep fluid. Never any pus/infection. So I had no reason to ever pick at it. It didn't look or act like acne at all.
I didn't even notice the little plugs until a few years into it actually. And I didn't try to squeeze them because it was pretty obvious they weren't white or blackheads. But I knew something was blocking the pores. I actually thought it was maybe a keratin thing or maybe a hard water thing. (Yes I even put in an expensive water treatment system in my home because of it). It wasn't until about the 6th year before I ever tried plucking one of those little plugs out with a needle. And to my shock and awe, it allowed a sore that had been there for almost a month to suddenly heal overnight. But before that, I would leave them alone and they would stay on my face for weeks, sometimes months. The longest I left one alone waiting for it to heal was 10 weeks! But even after I realized they basically needed to be surgically removed, I still left them alone until they were there for too long and finally just needed them to go away because the longer they were there, they often seemed to get bigger...like as if one little plug would start calling all of its relatives and they'd decide to have a family reunion.
That was why I got so excited recently when I discovered that Betadine cream!! OMG! The yellow crap you see oozing out in the photos in my first post ....thats from those plugs turning to mush! I wanted to die because I wish I could have known this years ago. Because I've tried a bazillion different things and never found anything that dissolved them or softened them or shrank them before.
Anyway, I hope that answers the question. I know some people on here have come down hard on others for picking at them. Picking is usually a bad thing with every other skin issue. But this is nothing like other skin issues it seems. And I know for a fact that NOT picking at them didn't help one bit anyway. And I also know that for most of us, plucking those buggers out was the ONLY way to finally get them to heal at all. Try the Betadine cream. Put a little gob on each spot and just let it ooze, wipe it off, repeat.
@Kiki RNI have to tell you that I started crying when reading your story...I experienced exactly the same with the oozing wounds cracking while eating or smiling. When I was forced to be among people I was counting the hours as I knew that at some point the wounds would be filled up that much they would start bleeding. This was so embarrassing for me that I felt having a panic attack when in the restaurant's bathroom and looking at my face, desperately trying to cover the wounds with make-up but they would not dry that quickly. I have really wasted many years hiding at home, not living my life...sometimes I would not leave the house for days. I would constantly touch the wounds, run to the bathroom to check if there are finally healing... I was sotrapped in thoughts around this issue that I could not concentrate at work, I found excuses not to meet people, I even started lying. I have had this issue for 20 years now and my skin is totally destroyed of all the picking and harsh treatments...not only on my face but also on my back, shoulders and arms. The doctors would say that I have a mental issue and yes, it is probably meanwhile true cause I am always worried about my skin and what people do think about my scarring. But I have also always known that I am not crazy and that this is a skin issue which is abnormal, meaning not just the usual acne other people have.
So back to your post, when I found it yesterday I felt hope again. I have already ordered a light mask and I went to the pharmacy to get the cream. I have just put it on my sores and I am praying that it will help me as well.
I would like to thank you for taking the time sharing your experience and pain with us and being so honest.
KIKI...(I don't know how to tag anyoneon this site)...thanks for your history. Interesting how your lesions started...seems like little explosions. I admire your patience, and it's awesome you've found something that works...thank you for sharing. The improvement is remarkable.

I also have this issue. I am 42 and have had this problem for at least 10 years now. About a month ago I tried a 20$ acne treatment kit from a company called Melaleuca. The first week my face was oozing fluid from my sores. The second week I noticed a huge difference in skin tone and texture. Last week, the itching and soreness stopped. Most of my sores were healing. The ones that are not healing-still have the little plugs inside of them. This week the little plugs came closer to the surface and were much easier to remove. I didnt have to dig to deep this time and when I would pull they came out easier than before. Melaleuca is all natural ingredients, it has several types of oils like tea tree and thyme. It smells good, feels good and is actually getting me somewhere. I have purchased enough of this acne kit to last me an entire year-so 6 boxes. Each box is a 2 month supply. And yes-its only 20$. I have tried the expensive creams, washes, ointments, home remedies, and I almost wanted to burn my face on purpose because the pain was getting so bad I wanted to end it and I thought burning my skin would have to get rid of these things. Obviously I didnt do that. And please dont do it, just get this stuff and give it one month of twice a day use. I hope it works for you guys like it is for me.
@Theresa133My gosh, you are 100% correct-- this skin problem absolutely deteriorates mental health!! Just like you, I went from living a normal life to completely hiding in my home. I lost friendships over it because people would say "well it doesn't bother me" and I'd think....well it bothers ME and I don't want to go out or attend parties or gatherings when I have a face full of wide open wounds! People who don't have this kind of problem haveno idea how horrible it is to deal with. And of course we don't want to isolate ourselves all alone but the humiliation of it is far greater of a burden to bear! It's incredibly depressing for so many reasons. And you feel crushed with anxiety over the guilt of shutting people out andit's compounded by the anxiety of the having to face people with a face full of ugliness. That's why I love this thread so much.....because only the people on this thread truly understand the magnitude of what this has done to our lives.
I hope this works for you too!! My son cleared up after 4 uses. I haven't even been using it diligently since then either and yet my face is STILL clear!! I've only used it like once a week. The Betadine cream is absolutely amazing too. Just put a gob on each spot while your watching TV or something and sit there with a mirror and since kleenex.....when you see the yellow crap has oozed out, wipe it off and put on another gob. I don't know how it works but it literally sucks the nastiness out.
Also.....try to think if you have some kind of sensitivity to a food. I realized eggs and dairy triggered mine. I've eaten those my whole life and never had an issue until apparently now. Why? Gosh, who knows haha But I know there's some level of rosacea involved in this condition....likely it's a secondary affect because of the inflammatory aspect of it all. But I read up on the foods or things to avoid to prevent rosacea flares and nothing applied to me other than eggs and dairy so I cut those out and it really helped. I did test the theory and guesswhat.....I started to breakout the next day!! One use of the mask mixed with the beta on the spots and my face cleared again almost overnight! So give that a look and see if there's anything that applies to you. Just as an added measure.
YOU DESERVE TO BE FREE OF THIS!! I'll keep checking back to see how it's going for you!
@quinzee Hey! Thank you!! I'm still going strong with clear skin only using the mask about once a week! It's been amazing!

Im pretty stoked I got the betadine and put it in my face right out the shower, by the time I got dressed and came back my face was oozing! Idk if its gonna work but I am so hopeful. I looked on my Amazon account and I actually bought that same face light back in 2020 and returned it. It was uncomfortable on my face and just all around in general laying there for 20 minutes with that thing on was not pleasant to me. If you keep updating tho I may try it again. Thanks for the heads up on the betadine. Im so happy for you that youve figured out your face! You have a beautiful face!
I was going to train at my dojo tonight and I looked in the mirror before I left and sometimes I just want to stay home bc my face is just so gross and I know once I sweat and my makeup is melting ppl are going to see my skin.
im 37 now but mine started right after my son also. My skin always seems like its going to clear up the week after my period but it never does completely. I also feel like its somehow related to the little blonde hairs on my face and Ive also noticed dark hairs increasing on my chin. I wonder if it has to do anything with hormones.
I tried the valtrex without success. Ive tried every thing anyone has posted about on this blog. Id love to figure out what in the world is the deal with all of us!
anyways thanks again for posting
I thought websites with blogs were really against posting/promotinga specific product, and with a link? For $150? Yikes!

Ive spent alot of time with horse breeders and vetinarians, I asked them what is the numebr 1 killer of all animals, they all answer the same, worms!!!! then ive asked, how is it all our animals die or are debilitated by these worms yet we are immune?
The vetinarians all answer the same, "were not" theres no worm that can live in your cat dog, rabbit or bird that cant live in us"
hmmmmmmmm, so then we all have worms and those worms are all excreting various poisons and plaque type excretions in us all day long, there are billions of species of worms!!!!!!! billions, from spirochetes to snake like worms that can grow the full length of our intestinal tracts, they can completely inhabit our brains see toxoplasms and be shocked.
No no no no, demodex mites are simply a parasite feeding off worm shit, I have used everything on my face including keroseen, DMSO,
gum sprits, pine needle oil, all things that penetrate biofilm and everything works for a short period then later the white nodules and lesions repopulate, nopthing else makes sense besides a worm never being killed at all that we are only hitting the tail end excretion of a living worm that has embedded itself in our tissues and is most likely inches orfeet long and really hard to kill, they encase themselves in biofilm and are impervious to white blood cell attacks.
I have taken horse version ivermectin at 1000 pound horse dosage and ill tell you my legs have what seems like viens twitching the entire length of my leg from ankle to upper thigh, now it doesnt take a doctor to diagnose that, it is one big ass worm dying!!!!!!
100% of us have worms, some of us cannot co-exist and are in endless agonies as a result, some of us have amazing dna that has learned how to offset worm damage via excretions and feeding, very long ago in my youth i tried crystal meth 1 time only, the entire night i felt a worm wiggling around inside my cheek, it really freeked me out and was a sure as day not imagined, no doubt that worm was growing in me since my youth, most human and animal worms move extremely slowly, like they can take 10 hours to move 1/2 inch, but zap them with some crystal meth (i snorted it) and watch them go into high speed.
no no no, i am seeing a clear pattern these skin issues are worms!!!!!!! i am happy to share my 20 years of research with you and what has led me to this conclusion and it certainly explains why all doctors are seemingly totalamatuers on this topic. how does one get worms, well er ahh, kissing someone (mono) eating contaminated food (bascically every resteraunt ) kissing a pet!!!
breathing particles coughed or sneezed from infested people (worm larvae is microscopic and can float on air) drinking contaminated water and or having oral sex with contaminated people, so yes we all have worms deal with it.

These are demodex guys. It's mind boggling that vets have a better grasp on this that dermatologists/medical professionals do. Even thoughvets know demodicosis is common an alarming numberprescribe topical and systemic steroids which is like tipping kerosene on a fire.
Demodex are minusculemites/acari that live in the hair follicles and sebaceous glands of all mammals. Generally they don't pose an issue, however, when their numbers get out of control they cause problems. This canleadto everything from baldness, ingrown hairs, acne, sores, massive pores, rosacea, rhinitis, rhinophyma etc etc.
Kinda suspicious doctors all know about the psychiatric disorder delusional parasitosis in spite ofdemodexbeingquietly documented in medical literature for over a century.
Google demodex blepharitis slit lamp if you wannasee a vid of an ophthalmologist extracting one then putting it under the microscope. Ophthalmology seems the only medical discipline with practitioners aware. Yet plenty of them still recommend things like baby shampoo which iscompletely ineffective.
The goal is to keep their numbers in check, eliminatingthem entirely would probably not be possible. The most promising solution I'veread about is oralivermectin in conjunction with oral metronidazole, metronidazole daily for two weeks, one dose of ivermectin at the start and another a week in to it. I am yet to convince my doctor to me prescribe this but will link the study below and report back once I convince them.
Tea tree oil not diluted more than 50%and permethrin kill them. When my acne was bad and Id use tea tree oil itd work for about half a week then just stop liketheydbecame resistant. They're in all your follicles andarent limited to areas with flare ups soonly treating a localised areas could quickly leadto them becomingresistant I guess.
Id recommend getting over the counter permethrin scabies cream and covering from scalp to toe once every 7 days til you see improvement. Iused an epilator a couple of hoursafter putting on permethrin and it was just crazy, all these big white chunksflicking out of my skin on to the mirror.Soo gross.
Since they cause hyperplasia responsible for rhinophyma and have been documented internally, not just in pores, it wouldn't surprise me if they're a factor in tumours. There's an interesting paper that elaborates on the different internal animal tissue they've been found in that I'll link too.
Hope this is of use,
All the best

For Demodex there is a 2 week oral treatment that is highly effective for treating demodex. The treatment isalso is very inexpensive since it uses 2 generic drugs. Both drugs are on the WHO's list of 100 essential medications and have in general good safety records over the 40-60 years the 2 drugs have been available. This treatment worked for me after decades of misdiagnosis by 4 board certified dermatologists.
The treatment was tested in a proper medical study and published in the May 2013 issue of The International Journal of Infectious Diseases. The paper is here:
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S120197121201315X
The treatment consists of 2 weekly doses of Oral Ivermectin based on your body weight. Daily doses of Oral Metronidazole at 250 mg 3 times per day taken with food. No alcohol should be consumed during treatment with Oral Metronidazol until 72 hours after the last tablet. The first dose (Day 1 of treatment) of Oral Ivermectin kills the current adult demodex. The second weekly dose (Day 8 of treatment) of Oral Ivermectin kills any eggs that hatched since the first dose. The Oral Metronidazole is both an antibiotic and an anti-parasitic drug. Based on recent readings about Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), it is highly likelythat the Oral Metronidazole is treating an underlying SIBO infection killing the bacteria that is allowing the demodex to flourish on the skin.
SIBO has been found in at least 50-60% of people with Rosacea Subtype 2 (formerly known as Demodicosis) with demodex. SIBO apparently either suppresses the normal immune system response that keeps demodex from getting overpopulated OR it creates an environment where demodex flourish and get overpopulated. There are multiple types of different bacteria that have been found in patients with SIBO. You have to get the right antibiotic to kill the specific bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. Oral Metronidazole is known to be highly effective against at least 2 of the bacteria commonly found in SIBO includingthe common Bacteriodes bacteria and Eggerthella Lenta bacteria. Some studies have been limited to just testing the extremely expensive antibiotic Rifaximin for SIBO. Rifaximin is highly effective against some bacteria such as E. Coli, Shigella, and Salmonella.
The antibiotic Doxycycline is commonly prescribed for patients with Rosacea. At first, Doxycycline may help clear any secondarysurface skin infections caused by Bacillus Oleronus ssociated with demodex skin mites in 40% of cases. Doxycycline doesn't typically work on the underlying SIBO infection.
You might consider taking a copy of the paper to your dermatologist appointment and showing it to the doctor if they are unfamiliar with this treatment. The 5th dermatologist I went to actually knew of the 2 drug oral treatment. The first 4 dermatologists didn't know what was wrong and misdiagnosed the condition as ordinary bacterial acne after a brief visual exam and no tests. Nothing they prescribed ever worked.
I hope your appointment goes well.

I finally found something that works!!!! I was on Valtrex oral, acyclovir cream and taking L-lysine supplements for over 8 months with no change. The spots were healed (as in not an open/raw wound) however, I could very much so see the white dots under the skin! I dared not touch them, but it was obvious they were not responding to the antivirals. The area still felt sensitive and seemed inflamed to me.
What did work>
-Washing my skin with Dial BAR soap with benzalkonium chloride 1-2x per day!
-Using a hydrocortisone GEL (there is one sold at CVS with no alcohol)
-Very thin layer of Altabax ointment at night
-I use ivermectin topical 3-4x/week for rosacea as well (however Ive been using this for a little bit and dont suspect it contributed hugely to the plugs clearingits more so for my overall complexion/skin health).
Honestly, I think it was the bar soap that changed everything. Id been washing my body with bar soap for ages, and Inever had one of these sores anywhere other than my face! So I started washing my face with the Dial as well. The spots quickly started changing. Dont ask me how or why it worked, but I highly recommend picking up Dial antibacterial bar soap w/ benz.chloride and giving it a try. I had tried an OTC antiviral topicalwith benzalkonium chloride at one point with no luck,so I really have no idea why the bar soap worked. I honestly believe its just a super deep folliculitis thats easily inflamed/irritated?The body responds to the infection with overproduction of keratin, which plugs the follicle and creates that plug maybe?Avoid anything irritating on the area (acids, strong chemicals/antiseptics, essential oils).
I am convinced that it is a form of Parasite...
Ive read several people who got results in this thread; for some it is Viral along the lines of Herpes/HPV type strain... For others none of those treatments work but the Parasite treatments seem to have made results for those of us whom have used this treatment...
I am happy to report that it has been about a year or more now and I have no issues and just a scar where the oocyst once was...
If you read the above comments many people got results if not cured using Ivermectin, doxycycline, or some other form of Parasite treatment; I used over the counter Pin Worm treatment...
I used it twice; first dose then waited about 7-10 days and took a second dose... Took a 3rd dose about 3 months later...
Im curious...
HOW MANY PEOPLE TOOK A PARASITE TYPE TREATMENT & GOT RESULTS OR CURED..?
@Cristolpistolhave you ever tried muciprocin? It treats staph. I noticed you have a few white dots in your nose (I do too)! And when flagging to my doctor they said this can be tell tale sign of staph they have me on 10 days of topical muciprocin on my sore and up my nose. Only a couple days in, but so far results look very promising! Sorry for zooming in on your photo- just thought Id share in case it helps!
