The Dr. did not run any test (I would like this done for 100% confirmation)  I'm not sure if this was because I was already taking the antiviral & if that would compromise the test, or if they were just confident in their diagnosis from examination and photos. I'd say the anti viral has helped a lot at this point. I did have lots of side effects with the script.

Here's some progression of this latest outbreak after being on an antiviral for 11 days. Photos are from the past week/2 weeks in reverse order (from today at its most healed point)

"The valacyclovir has helped a lot in finally healing the lesion I've had for almost 2 months. I was taking 1g 3x a day for 7 days, currently just 1g a day. The plugs are mostly ridded of (for now & hopefully forever) as far as I can tell. There may be one deeply rooted plug hanging around but no more open wound on my chin. If you haven't tried this, ask your doctor for an antiviral, hopefully it continues to help me. If you cannot get to a doctor I would try taking Lysine tablets maybe with a Lysine topical too.I posted this elsewhere and copied.

Hello All!

It's been about 10 months and I wanted to post a (final) update.
I have been free of the sores/plugs since the start of taking an antiviral.

For myself this was not demodex or other parasites, no skin cancer, nothing autoimmune.
It is truly worth a shot.

I had to get appointment with the top Natural Killer Specialist in the US - University of Columbia NEAR Clinic, in order to get Acyclovir trial. He was working with my doc out of my local University Hospital, and Acyclovir (Antiviral, Valaciclovir)helped me beyond what I ever imaginged. 6 years+ into Morgellons. I don't know if it will help you. I've been on many meds. Just never do steroids/corticoids, or any immune inhibitor. They make it worse. Try it for yourself, of course, if you like. But be cautious.

Looks like there are others that have had success with antivirals. I have been on so many meds over the past 6 years, but never an antiviral. For me, it was life changing. It may not help you, and while side effects for me are non-existant, I think there can be implications for different bodies. I think Kidneys can be at risk with antivirals, but again, do your own research. Overall, hope you find a doctor that helps more than hurts.

Well, I have finally figured my issue out. I am completely disgusted and embarrassed by it. I have demodex mites. Like the original post, I had pimples that had hard white plugs that wouldnt squeeze and wouldnt heal until the core was out. I posted last week on the success I was seeing from a new spot treatment I tried. It was bringing the white plugs out and I thought the sulfur was doing this. This spot treatment also contains tea tree oil. I couldt believe the amount of plugs coming out and started reading again. I know others have mentioned these mites, but I kinda blew it off thinking no way. How could have all the doctors I have seen over the years not have picked up on that! After much research, these demodex mites are something everyone has. Most people have no issue with them. If however, you have a week immune system or like me have an autoimmune disease the demodex mites multiply to very high levels.

So.what kills them. 100% tea tree oilfound at the drug store. I use it every night right before bed as darknesswhen they come out of the pores. It is not an overnight fixIt takes a while to kill the larvae and eggs, but I have been using it since Thursday and already the mites are vacating my pores. My skin is not as bumpy.

I have washed all bedding with Borax. I have also started a Borax Peroxide bath soak for 15 mins twice a day. I just wish I was diagnosed properly when this started to happen. My face is beyond scarred from something that I could have done something about.

I've tried everything, including tea tree.Did not work for me. Only thing that has worked is Acyclovir. 6 and 1/2 years after it exploded, but had it prior. So many meds, so many doctors, so many alternative treatments, cabinets full of vitamins, supplements, alternative treatments, ect. SO much money. Another reason why desperate people are a vulnerable group. Acyclovir is heaven sent.

I wanted to chime in over here after following along for years. I finally found a dermatologist that is determined to find an answer and a resolution. I had a punch biopsy done today, as BCC was a possible concern. She was able to rule out fungal/bacterial/worm/yeast etc. She left an open line for me to communicate back and forth with her while we wait for my results. Im relieved. Finally a derm who let me talk, tell my story, didnt interrupt, never mentioned picker, looked through all of my photos, even read along with some of your posts! She said she (obviously) cant diagnose any of you guys on the thread for legal reasons. But shes on board and in it for the long haul. She did a punch biopsy on a spot that was about two weeks old and one on a spot that was under 48hrs old. Shes going to have them tested for everything under the sun. She had also suggested the possibility of her teaming up withan Endocrinologist, Immunologist, and a Rheumatologist after we get the results from the biopsies. Something set off a lightbulb for her while she was looking through the pictures andhearing my story. Theres a possibility thatsomething internal hasgone haywire since I went fromzero acne to BAM....unknown,deep, long lasting, scarring, dont know what this actually is, 3 year battle. That made her raise a brow for sure and brought up the topic of internal issues. Shes researching on her end, Im researching on my end. Were staying in communication with each other. But shes not giving up on this and said that even if this leads to it being handled by a different doctor, shes standing by me the whole way.

Ill be sure to update after theappointment for the biopsy results (Sep 18th). I never thought about this being something other than skin related, but maybe it is a glimmer of hope for some of us that the problem may actually be coming from something off balance inside. Definitely makes me wonder. And after a quick google search (I always double check a doctors statements nowsince this skin issue started) she may be onto something. Im curious, have any of you seen animmunologist/rheumatologist/endocrinologist for this???

I went to the GP again. I can't go to a dermatologist, as they charge like $300US for a 10 minute appointment! I'm in NZ.

I told the GP about all my theories and showed her this thread. She was great and listened. She gave me a wash lotion which you have to leave on. There's a treatment you can take as tablets, but I'm on antidepressants and you cannot take the meds in combination with those.

I would really need the tablets, as the sores are coming up from deep, deep down in the skin.

I can report it all doesn't help very much.

Not looking in the mirror helps.

When I get a really bad one that is weeping, I started to but Dettol on it with a qtip...which is a strong skin disinfectant. It'll burn the skin, so just put it on the sore and not surrounding skin. It stings, but the sore develops a healthy crust afterwards without the horrible feeling that a volcano is developing underneath. Then just leave it alone and moisturize. It works for me.

I tried anti fungal and anti everything else, but the creams just seem to 'feed' it.

Cheers.

In researching papilloma, filaform warts and HPV I have learned that the virus infiltrates through any skin break (a zit, razor cut, scrape, etc) then goes to the basal layer, enters the stem cells responsible for creating new cells and hi-jacks them.  Those infected stem cells then start proliferation of weird cells.

This YouTube is 1:26 animation of wart education:

This YouTube is 4:56 and shows how hpv causes cancer, but it has good animations of what's going on at a cellular level:

Thank you for your info! I think you've nailed it! For me anyway. Not loving the "There's zero cure," but I'm happy to finally, with 99.9% certainty,  know what this nightmare is. Did you or do you know of anyone who has been treated for this? Thank you again.

Id like to chime in for anybody that has this issue on the nose as I have (seemingly) gotten this under control.

It seems to me that whatever deep tissue damage I was seeing was due to a weakened moisture barrier since I was applying literal rubbing alcohol and sanitizer to the spots during the day as a desperate attempt to kill all bacteria. I think over time the array of product I was using on the pulsating deep wounds was hurting more so than helping.

I stopped using all sorts of concoctions and stuck to the sulfur a few times a week, and I took tweezers to the fine vellus hairs covering my nose, trying to eliminate them all the best I could. Ive bought a very good moisturizer, and I simply exfoliate with a gritty Vitamin C wash and a vibrating exfoliation brush. This really takes off the outer layer of dead skin leaving my face insanely smooth and shiny. I think my problem the entire time was sebaceous filament (clogged hair follicles/pores due to sebum and dead skin cells) and as I dug into the skin to remove what I thought was invasive was really just a normal skin environment that everybody has.

I treat my skin with kid gloves now. Try not to touch my face exfoliating 3 times a week. Always moisturizing afterwards before bed. I really dont do anything else except use a retinol which has also seemed to help the overall skin vibrancy and look.

I think the sulfur ointment also helped clear my pores. Whether there was something else involved or not, I cant say for sure. But Im happy right now.

I am 55 years old and have had this for years- so embarrassing and have tried everything. For me, I pluck them out or they just get bigger and bigger and more painful. Once I pluck them, I use peroxide to clean them out and then coatthem with Corona Cream. I even use it as a barrier on each one before I put my makeup on. Makeup comes off immediately when I get home, wash face with antibacterial soap and coat with Corona. I havent managed to stop them from popping up. But in the past, I had some of them last for 2-3 years. Now I can get rid of them in a few weeks.

The worst part is what people think -I have had people tell my family members I getthem because I am using Meth. WOW ..its disheartening .

CANDIDA IS MY CAUSE

This topic has helped me so much I needed to reply to add my info.

Symptoms very similar - painful nodule/cyst like spots, they would weep clear fluid, the top layer of skin would come off, you could sometimes see these white keratin plugs and the sore would sometimes have depressed centres and raised borders

I was having this issue monthly assuming it was hormonal acne but realised this was because I was more oily at times and therefore feeding the fungus.

Mine fits the description and photos for candida and I also have had chelitis before (splits at side of mouth) and currently one fungal toenail which looks more like candida toenail pictures than standard fungal toenail pics

I also found a few other pictures/sites which backed up the opinions of the very helpful other posters on this thread. I will include those pictures and mine below. Especially one which showed how these sores start as cyst like spots but then start to breakdown the skin etc

Could it besporotrichosis? I have the same problem, tiny white plugs surrounding a very big one that is very deep.

It is so deep, no cream can reach it and i can't get it out because it seems stuck. I can get pieces from it, but it is very painful, like ripping my skin. Clotrimazol helped with the tiny ones.

I live in Eastern Europe and here doctors don't even look at you.

I cry every day, i've had this condition for 2 years now, never heals until i get everything out, but the one i have now, right in my forehead is killing me..

I started taking 100mg itraconazole, i am on day 4 and i pray to God for a miracle. I can't believe that is no explication, no cure, someone whoknows for sure what this

I am sorry If i made a mistake, English is my second language.

I wish you only the best

I have seenRheumatology, Infectious Disease, Dermatology, and Allergy and Immunology.I had the most movement with Immunology, whichled me to Genetic testing. I have never seen Endocrinology, but am very curious about it. Glands and hormones potentially have influence. If anyone has endocrine system tested and it proves significant, please do share.

Immune Issues I have include: low C4, low Mannose Binding Lectin, Low IgG Subunit 2, low Natural Killer Cells, Deficient Functional Natural Killer Cells, High IL 1 Beta.I'd be interested to see if anyone else shares similar.

C4- Immune, complement protein. But AH50 was fine (total amount of all compliment proteins), so diagnostically unsure

Mannose Binding Lectin - Immune, I was at 0 and then 1, normal is 50 or above. Considered Significance Unknown = not enough conclusive research

Low IgG Subunit 2 - Immune, IgG total was fine, there are 4 IgG sub-units.Considered not Diagnostically Significant, but the test was still done for "insight" (?)

Natural Killer Cells (number of cells) - immune, important part of immune, my number wasin a weird middle ground between normal and diagnostically significant. Considered "red flag". Tested multiple times.

Functional Natural Killer Cells (how the cells that you do havefunction) - Immune, important part of immune system. Low, diagnostically significant. You can have completely normal NK Cell numbers and still have a Functional NK Cell Deficiency. However, it willbe more difficult to get a doctor to test for it. NK Cell studies seem to be in infancy, but Covid has prompted many more studies.

High IL 1 Beta - Immune, Interleukins (IL) are Cytokins. Having high IL 1 Beta means my inflammatory response is overactive. That's diagnostically significant, yet not being treated as it is not clear what the mechanismof action is - what is causing it (could be the IL1Beta itself, or precursorproteins such as Monarch 1 Protein, which would be a different medication than IL1Beta medication).

If my immune system allowed an infection/illness/etc. to run rampant, present atypically, and for my body to have a have a hard time overcoming - then treating the source will be important.

We will eventually find immune similarities. Share if or when you do.

I have had some genetic testing done and am also in a research study that is doing a full genome. No results yet. I'm told immune issues aredefinitively genetic.

How you make it out of your childhood with a genetic immune deficiency is a blessing and a curse.Absolutely occurs - for us - instead of killing us, it just slowly tortures us. You are not alone.

I have been suffering from this issue for several years. It has normally been one or two that would heal in a matter of weeks but nowI have 10 active that have lasted months and it is crippling my social, emotional and mental health. I have been put on antibiotics several times because they thought it was staph (without doing any tests of biopsies) and recently after reading this thread I asked my derm to prescribe anti fungals (ketoconazole and fluconazole) The keto is a cream and the fluconazole she only prescribed 200mg once a week for 4 weeks (which seems very low, I believe it should have been 200mg daily. I also bought over the counter antifungals which helped only minimally and the more moisture, the more those white plugs seem to proliferate. So here iswhat does seem to be helping me currently (I can't see any more white plugs and I am hoping the sores heal)

-Boiron Thuja Occidentalis 30C Wart Removal Medicine, 3 Count (80 Pellets each tube) - I don't know if this is a wart thing but it seems to be helping whatever this is

- Fresh Aloe vera leaf (the gel part) on over night dries them out and helps to heal the skin (It's really important to keep these sores dry for a portion of the day. They seem to love moisture)

- Mupircin because they are open wounds there can be a secondary infection and this seems to help if applied once or twice a day.

- Ketoconazole shampoo

I have another derm appointment on Friday and will insist on getting a biopsy or test to know for sure what this is. But for the first time in years I have hope that these might go away. I'm not sure if it was the antifungals or the wart tablets and mupiricin or a combination of all of the above but I see progress.

Also, stress seems to trigger mine and eating healthy food, drinking lots of water can help (truly).

I know how painful and isolating this is. It feels like a bottomless pit of despair but I really hope any combination of these things can help you.

I also struggled with the anti fungal cream but I found a solution version where there was only one other ingredient. It was PEG400 which is moisturising but isnt a fatty alcohol or an oil which fungus loves to feed on

It was canestansolution in the UK. There is also a dermatological spray but that was a bit strong for my face as it had alcohol but other people could probably handle it

I cant get nyastin over here anywhere it seems and if I went to the GP they will give me Daktacort as Ive had chelitis before (cracks at the corner of your mouth caused by candida) and that seems the standard prescription

I also feel as though stress ties in. It is proven that stress directly impacts the immune system, but this illness is inherently stressful in and of itself.

It sucks but nice to know others are out in the world with these rubber bullets. I'm so over this garbage it has completely scar up my face. ITS  absolutely devastating to see my pretty face GO down the drain. I have a few questions if anyone is willing to kinda help me nail this problem. If you don't want to I do understand. I guess the only way to do this is copy and then paste what I have typed in your comments and put a dash after the problem with a yes or no.

DIABETIC? Yes

TAKE INSULIN?no

TYPE 1?

TYPE 1.5 INSULIN RESISTANT? YES

KNOW YOU HAVE CANDIDA?YES

DRINK DIET SODA?YES

HAVE AN ENLARGED LIVER?YES

WHEN YOU STARTED GETTING THE RUBBER BULLETTS, WERE YOU SICK FROM SOMETHING ELSE WHEN THEY STARTED?YES ALLERGIC TO ALL INSULIN.

THANKS EVERYONE. I REALLY APPRICIATE YOUR ANSWERS.

I have been struggling with this for so long, and along with it, I have an excoriation disorder. As soon as I mention that I have dermatillomania, any doctor immediately discredits anything else I have to say after that.

Ive seen so many unhinged things being said in this thread like I snorted crystalmeth and it revealed the little worms floating in my skin all throughout my body, you should try that too no thats because meth causes subcutaneous tactile hallucinations that cause you to believe things are crawling or wriggling under your skin.

Like. Cmon.Im an addict to something else (not meth lol) too but please go to rehab and stop saying deluded things or suggesting using ANTI PARASITIC MEDICINE ON OPEN WOUNDS CAUSED BY ACNE(????? Big no no)with such a guise of authority that you definitely dont have.

anyway,

what I think this most likely is (for me, at least) is just an overproduction of sebaceous filament. Sebaceous filament on its own isnt dangerous, and its a natural process that protects pores from infection, they are NOT blackheads. They are small plugs that arent often visible until multiple layers of skin are either taken off (eg; picking scab) or until they become blackheads. My case is the former, picking. You are picking your skin until it is raw, and tearing out the very things that protect your pores from deep infection (sebaceous filaments are alsoattached to hair follicles which bleed when ruptured, explains the profuse bleeding). And youre allsurprised that the sore wont heal? Iwas in denial about if it was just due to skin pickingup until the end of the thread. Not a single person here knows what is really going on, and some people are posting photos of a completely different issue and suggesting that it is some kind of papilloma virus or something or due to vaccines and I just want to say, I can smell the desperation from here because Ive been there.

Please just stop touching it. And yes, Stop touching also means do not use any sort of tool on it, sterile or not, dermatologist approved or not. Just do. Not. Physically. Aggravate. The ragingopen wound. Common sense. I had one of these sores all week this week and I randomly went wow its probably because I keep ripping it open to take out these plugs so I stopped and over 2 days it scabbed up and is now 1/3 of the size and redness that it used to be.

being in denial of a skin picking disorder is one of the most socially debilitatingkinds of denial toward mental illness, your face will be covered in 1inch diameter sores with white plugs until you stop touching them COMPLETELY. No ifs, ands,or buts. Stop touching the area completely.

Big Tiger,

DIABETIC? No

TAKE INSULIN? No

TYPE 1? -

TYPE 1.5 INSULIN RESISTANT? Not aware , will check

KNOW YOU HAVE CANDIDA? No

DRINK DIET SODA? No

HAVE AN ENLARGED LIVER? No

WHEN YOU STARTED GETTING THE RUBBER BULLETTS, WERE YOU SICK FROM SOMETHING ELSE WHEN THEY STARTED? No, but chronic serious stress

Big Tiger,

How do you manage your 1.5 diabetes if you are allergic to insulin? What medications do you take?

I always suspected that our disease has to do something with insulin/blood sugar. I have pred-diabetes, blood sugar 5.6. I can not lower blood sugar even if I stay away from all carbs and eat only 2 times a day -- it's still high. However, doctors say that it's not diabetes and refuse to investigate further.

What other symptoms do to you have besides those stretchy plugs?

Skin yellowing? YES

Scalp hair loss? YES

Dry skin? YES

Body hair loss? Yes (on shins)

Skin tags? NO

A small update... Itraconazole did nothing for me so i went and bought an acyclovir cream. The swelling went down in 2 days, and the wounds are starting to close. I didn't want to believe i had some type of virus infection, like HSV, but it seems that is the case. It's hard to get acyclovir without prescription here, does anybody know If L-Lysine supplements can keep this virus under control?

If You tried everything and nothing worked, please try acyclovir...took my pain away. Stay safe, all of you

I have been on acyclovir daily for 4 months and it definitively helps. I also got acyclovir ointment, which helps even more (different from Abreva). I also use a glycolic acid lotion (can burn at times) -helping my skin turn over seems to help for some reason.

From what my doctor told me, it is hard for doctors to diagnose Herpes Viruses,as 95% of the population already has antibodies to the non-sexually transmitted versions.I have no idea, just what he said. He is treating me without a biopsy diagnosis (previous biopsy years ago was "inconclusive"). The fact that I am being treated at all is a miracle.I believe there are 8 Herpes viruses common in humans to date, but many others out there that are uncommon in humans. I am not sure that skin biopsies can test for Herpes - maybe? Worth asking for?(Is it one test? 8 different tests? - no idea). Worth a shot - and let us know!

I submitted an entry to the Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine. I made it it's own post, you can find by clicking on my name.

Things get horribly buried on this site. Maybe there is another place that is better?

Let's just be clear about how normal it is for people to mess with their skin:

A study conducted by "onepoll" foundthat 82% of people pop their zits. In addition, the American Journal of Infection Control stated, "people touch their facesmore than 20timesan hour on average".Aresearch study in the Journal of Neuropsychologia expressed, "Our species is one of the few in the animal kingdomregularly touch their faces, and we often do it without even noticing".

And that's a for normal skin.

Were human,Anne Liu, a professor and infectious disease physician at Stanford Health Care, reassures. Thats how we operate.

"In addition, about 15 percent of the population suffers from chronic itch, according to Brian Kim, co-director of the Center for the Study of Itch at the Washington University School of Medicine. 'Its a very big problem,'Kim says. 'Studies have shown that its impact on quality of life is equivalent to chronic pain. Many of my patients who have had both prefer pain over itch. Itch tends to be more maddening.' When the itch begins to affect quality of life such as sleep or is associated with a disfiguring rash. When you have an itch, scratching is the natural response."

"According to Dr. Kim, rough estimates suggest that the average person scratches an itch about 97 times a day. Itch is one of the most overlooked aspects of medicine, according to Dr. Kim".

So while one might mess with their skin, it in and of itself, is not abnormal.

The vetinarians all answer the same, "were not" theres no worm that can live in your cat dog, rabbit or bird that cant live in us"

hmmmmmmmm, so then we all have worms and those worms are all excreting various poisons and plaque type excretions in us all day long, there are billions of species of worms!!!!!!! billions, from spirochetes to snake like worms that can grow the full length of our intestinal tracts, they can completely inhabit our brains see toxoplasms and be shocked.

No no no no, demodex mites are simply a parasite feeding off worm shit, I have used everything on my face including keroseen, DMSO,

gum sprits, pine needle oil, all things that penetrate biofilm and everything works for a short period then later the white nodules and lesions repopulate, nopthing else makes sense besides a worm never being killed at all that we are only hitting the tail end excretion of a living worm that has embedded itself in our tissues and is most likely inches orfeet long and really hard to kill, they encase themselves in biofilm and are impervious to white blood cell attacks.

I have taken horse version ivermectin at 1000 pound horse dosage and ill tell you my legs have what seems like viens twitching the entire length of my leg from ankle to upper thigh, now it doesnt take a doctor to diagnose that, it is one big ass worm dying!!!!!!

100% of us have worms, some of us cannot co-exist and are in endless agonies as a result, some of us have amazing dna that has learned how to offset worm damage via excretions and feeding, very long ago in my youth i tried crystal meth 1 time only, the entire night i felt a worm wiggling around inside my cheek, it really freeked me out and was a sure as day not imagined, no doubt that worm was growing in me since my youth, most human and animal worms move extremely slowly, like they can take 10 hours to move 1/2 inch, but zap them with some crystal meth (i snorted it) and watch them go into high speed.

no no no, i am seeing a clear pattern these skin issues are worms!!!!!!! i am happy to share my 20 years of research with you and what has led me to this conclusion and it certainly explains why all doctors are seemingly totalamatuers on this topic. how does one get worms, well er ahh, kissing someone (mono) eating contaminated food (bascically every resteraunt ) kissing a pet!!!

breathing particles coughed or sneezed from infested people (worm larvae is microscopic and can float on air) drinking contaminated water and or having oral sex with contaminated people, so yes we all have worms deal with it.

I have been following this thread for a couple of years now, doing my own thoroughresearch and decided to join the active conflict in trying to figure out what this oddity is andwhat it is doing to my body and my mind since the manyDoctorsI have presented to,seems unknowing; Diagnoses

Candida Albicans/SIBO -Functional MedCtr

IBS & Adult Acne -Private Physicians

Ive had stomach issues as well as horrible acne mainly on my face and soft pouch private area, for about 7 years now with no issues prior to an incident that happened in which I believe I was exposed to something that causedall my ailments.

2014I was helping a lady that was in dire medical need, her home was 20 yrs unclean and she was almost out of her mind, I stayed withher for a few daysand was exposed to a wealth of bad air and battledconstant asthma attacks. She passed months later of squamous cell carcinoma - had eaten her entire vaginal and anal area - horrible way to live she was in constant pain.

I have tried everything for my acne except crushed aspirin and Ivermectin (we used this on our dog he had red mange, it almost killed him but he came thru, is what I have suspected all along to cure)

I will attempt Ivermectin and follow-up, as well as the crutchedaspirin. I Pray that this will help me as I am nearing the point I cannot say more
