hey guys i feel my skin get better. i used retin a 108days ago. my cheek and entire face is filled with large pores and wrinkle. this fucking disaster ruined my whole routine. i was preparing for really big test controlling my life. but retin a give me busy brain.

i'm from north-east asia (korea). in rare case, asian also have side effect by retin a. i'm 24years old. i just adapt?adopted some moisturizer for three month. suddenly today i can see a little progress. poreseems to be closed little of bit. i can not use english well, but i want to sharing my experience. like you, while retin a effects arestill existent in skin, i feel very disappointed and even have hard depression.

but it will take very long time, improvement shouldbe seen soon. when i adapt a minimum amount of moisturizer, my pore seems better. than overcoating it.

the medicine is moisturizer and to avoiding sun and patience.

Good luck! I just found that using an occlusive after the hydrating products, like aquaphor, helps trap the moisture in. But dont overdo it! And Stratias Liquid Gold is really good too.

thank you for the information. it is specific and useful.

i wonder whether your nose pores also are enlarged.

i think my nose pores were enlarged by drinking alcohol and using retin-a at the same time.

my nose pores like some ice pick shaped, are not likely to restore.. because nose skin has low resilience power..

so Ive changed my routine up a bit. I went to a dermatologist and he actually gave a name for the condition, something with dermatitis in the name. But it basically meant that my skin was aggravated by the use of too many products. So he recommended that I stop EVERYTHING, except a gentle cleanser at night. I have done for the past month and my skin is REALLY healing. I definitely have hope now that the condition will completely resolve. The doctor said it would take 4 months. So maybe I was all wrong before. Some of us may just need to do nothing for longer, except cleanser. I think the year or so I spent using the dermarolling, and emu oil, and urea products, etc. helped get me to a place where I can do nothing. But definitely, right now, the answer is clearly to leave it alone. I know this kind of a shift from what Ive been saying, but I was so impacted by the fact that the Dr. gave my condition a name, that he actually recognized what was going on, that I felt I had to listen to him. Its working. My color is returning to normal and the thickness is coming back. Ill keep updating. But if you think youre able to do it, stop everything, including moisturizers and sunscreen, and just use cleanser. The products, though helping in some ways, may have ingredients that are harming your skin in other ways. The Dr. said that the skin should be able to return to homeostasis by itself.

unfortunately i can't stop using foundation and sometimes sun-block due to my job. and these days i am enjoying riding on bicycle. it is inevitable that i would be exposed in high ultraviolet. skin disease also can't stop me. ;)

by the time it become next year-january, i will be able to stop using all things. it's difficult for me to endure these skin symptoms.

i hope you-noseriki get cured soon.

Guys, huge possible discovery. Im sorry to keep changing things up but I think I may have discovered what the problem is.

So for nearly 2 months, Ive been doing nothing but cleanser at night. Things were getting better but I started to notice some scaly patches developing on the sides of my nose. This made me think that something else was going on. I started researching a bit, and it occurred to me that I may have some sort of fungal infection or seborrheic dermatitis caused by an overgrowth of yeast. I called my dermatologist and asked for an Rx for Ketaconazole 2% cream. Ive been using it for 2 weeks now and its working. Things are returning to normal. For the first time during this whole recovery process, I feel absolutely convinced that Ive found the key.

Now I know it seems like I keep posting on here with a different solution that I believe is the answer. But the journey to healing your skin is a long and winding one with lots of steps forward and backward. All the previous discoveries, from thinking it was just dehydration to dermarolling to doing nothing, they all led me to this place. And now Ive figured it out. For all of you struggling out there to find a solution, it takes a long time and dermatologists arent that much help. But you will find a solution. Never give up. Your skin can heal.

So if any of you out there think this could be a fungal infection, try some topical anti fungals and see what happens. Everyones skin will react differently, but mine definitely had characteristics similar to those of seborrheic dermatitisredness and oiliness and orange peel skin, especially on forehead, nose, and around eyebrows. Do some research online, and if the symptoms and pictures look familiar, give an anti fungal a shot. It could work. It blows my mind that this never occurred to me or any dermatologist before. I think everyone with the orange peel skin has weakened their skins defenses by over-exfoliating and/orusing harsh productsso that the skin then becomes more susceptible to any number of issuesdehydration, fungal infection, etc. The Do-Nothing stage is crucial because it allows your skin to get back to some semblance of a homeostasis so that you can then more accurately pinpoint what exactly the problem is.

I apologize if my thoughts are a bit scrambled. Just trying to put something up for you guys. I dont want anyone else to suffer from this shit. Dont lose faith. You will find the solution. Ill continue to update.

Hey guys!

So skin is continuing to improve.  God it takes a long time.  But it™s getting there.  The sides of my forehead are starting to look like normal skin!  The orange peel texture is fading!  My dermatologist is adamant that a full recovery is possible.  He gave me a cream called NutraSeb that is specifically formulated for Seborrheic Dermatitis.  It™s supposed to inject some moisture back into the skin.  It™s definitely helping with dryness.

2 other things that I™ve started doing.  First is changing my diet.  I™m pretty sure that an overgrowth of yeast is causing much of the problem, so I™ve decided to start cutting out foods that feed the yeast.  It™s called an anti-Candida diet, Candida being a strain of yeast that can over-proliferate in the gut.  But it also helps with the reduction of the Malassezia strain on the face as well.  I™ve basically eliminated carbs, high sugar foods, and anything else that the yeast feeds on.  And my god, the results are incredible.  It™s funny because before, whenever I™d eat something fried or doughy or high in sugar I could feel my face tingling.  Almost like it was the yeast being activated by those foods.  And of course, whenever I ate vegetables or other œsafe foods, I would never have that feeling.  So I™m confident that this new diet is helping to kill off the yeast and promote more healing.  Yeah it sucks lol, but I do plan to start incorporating more foods into my diet after this initial cleansing period.  And it™s also important to try and avoid alcohol, as yeast loves that shit.

The second thing I™ve started is using probiotics.  These are supposed to restore the natural balance of bacteria in your gut and your body.  I™ve just started taking these but I™m confident it™s having an impact as well.

Oh and it also occurred to me that there™s a ph imbalance with my skin, brought about by the overdoing it with exfoliation and harsh products.  Your skin barrier is supposed to be slightly acidic, and when you use these harsh cleansers that are likely very basic, you push your skin™s ph into the basic realm as well.  That slight acidity is what is supposed to keep harmful bacteria at bay and prevent the overgrowth of existing good bacteria.  So when the ph is thrown off, your skin becomes more susceptible to things like yeast infections.  I thought about using Apple cider vinegar on my skin, but my Derm advised against it, saying it™s possible that you would just swing the pendulum too far in the acidic direction.  He recommended using Eucerin™s Ph balancing cleanser which I™ve started on.  So far, so good.

As I mentioned in my last post, this skin recovery thing has many layers and there™s not one magic bullet unfortunately.  You have to approach it on several fronts.  But there is indeed hope.  Your skin can heal.  Good luck to all, and I will continue to update.  If you have any questions, just message me :)

Present regimen:

AM:

splash face with lukewarm water

Nutraseb

pm:

Eucerin ph balancing cleanser

ketacanzole

And I take two probiotic capsules in the morning and am currently subscribing to an anti-Candida diet.  That™s it!

The ketacanazole. Its an anti fungal so its specifically targeting the overgrowth of yeast which is the main problem.

Hello Noseriki! I am really happy you are recovering! But can you be more specific if your problem is caused by retinoids or its justSeborrheic Dermatitis.

I ask that cause i haveSeborrheic Dermatitis years before the damage that was caused from retinoids. Those two are irrelevant.

There is nothing in common betweenSeborrheic Dermatitis andthe sunburn and the damage to my tissues that was caused by retinoids. My problem is the damage to my skin from retinoids and the sunburn and photosensitivity i have.Seborrheic Dermatitis is annoying but it does not cause photosensitivity and burns from the sun.

Right so the Seborrheic Dermatitis was more a result of the damaged skin barrier and altered ph level. So it was not the original problem, but a symptom. I think because my skin had impaired defenses as a result of the harmful products and exfoliating, it was more susceptible to the overgrowth of yeast that causes Seb Derm. In my case, I dont think retinoids caused the initial damage but they definitely worsened things. Are you positive that retinoids caused the damage? My skin has a bit of a sunburn look too but I believe thats just redness and inflammation from a disturbed barrier.

Well in my case its SURE they are the retinoids! Cause the sunburn is EXACTLY were i put the cream its like i draw a line i was sunburned with pain etc its not that it only looks like a sunburn its a sunburn. Retinoids cause photosensitivity !

Also i never did a lot to my skin and i have never went to a doctor before the one who gave me the retinoids and i never used anything else!

I am happy you are better ! I am not in such a good position though ! :(

You guys Im about to do something crazy that no one in here would even think about in a million years... IM GETTING BACK ON RETINOL. Actually Ive gotten back on for a few days now. I will report back on a month to tell you the results. I have nothing to lose. I guarantee you my skin is the worst out of everyone here. You think OPs skin is bad? Mine is at least 3 times worse. Of course this isnt a contest and we are thing to heal together. So Im gonna do the unthinkable and get back on retinol.

I got the idea to do it because retinol really is a good anti ager. I think what happened to us is we used toostrong of a product initially. From tazorac, to Retin a, those products are too strong that it exfoliates so much and ourskin cannot replace the old skin in time. Im gonna use a very weak retinol from Roc, and I will use very little and mix its with moisturizer. Basically the end product will be 1/30th the strength of tazorac. I will also use mederma some days too. I will come back and let you guys know the results. Ive already take before pictures.

Hello! I want to tell you that i really feelyou!

I have also thought about that too even if my skin was totally burned and destroyed but then i was like you may some day recover but if you do this mistake again it may never happen. But if you don't have photosensitivity you can try it without any serious site effects i guess.

I worry cause i think we have a sensitivity to retinol and retinoid at least this is what most people say cause other people did not had any issue. My case is different cause i don't have an orange peel skin but photosensitivity 4 years now and my skin is still burned from sun !!!

I really wish you the best and to become as before. I would also like to learn what happened with this trial !

Hi everyone!

Checking in with an update. The last few months have been hellish but I think I may have found a viable solution.

So in my last post I stated that I had seborrheic dermatitis. Well this may have been true, but its not what was causing the orange peel skin. I believe what happened was that in 2013 I started a 6 month course of Accutane. Also during that time I stupidly started using a physical exfoliant facial scrub. However, at the time, I didnt realize that it was an exfoliant (despite the little pieces of sand or shell or whatever the hell was in it). You see, I had just been on a trip to Israel, and we visited a Vineyard that also sold skin care products. A very charming man said that this one product could help with all types of skin conditions. I was so desperate for a cure for my skin at the time that I bought the scrub, thinking it was just a cleanser. I wanted to believe that it was some sign from God since I was in Israel and in a very fragile mindset at the time. So I ignored the harsh nature of it, and started using it very aggressively, rubbing it mainly into my nose and forehead areas. Remember, I was also on accutane at the time, so my skin was especially delicate. By looking at old pictures, I was able to see that, after a few monthsof using this scrub, thats when the orange peel texture Started to develop. I would continue to use the scrub, though more sporadically, for the next two years. As you can imagine, significant damage was done.

i now see that what the scrub did was THIN my skin. Thats why certain veins were visible on my forehead and temples, and the suppleness and bouncy look of my skin was worn away. The physical exfoliation of the scrub, which I used very aggressively and for quite a long time, is what must be responsible. A lot of you on here talk about using retinoids and other harsh cleansers and thats what caused your texture. If thats the case, I really do believe you can heal. In my case, I physically eroded away the outer layer of skin to the point where you could see delineation lines where I used the scrub.

When I realized a few months ago what had likely happened with this scrub, I lost it. I thought all hope was gone and that I would never heal. Many online resources say that once the skin has been thinned, usually from topical steroid use, the effects are permanent. I was destroyed and nearly suicidal.

However, remember that I was also using a topical called Elidel at this time. During this hopeless period, I would scour the internet for any information that might give me hope. And it turns out that elidel has been shown to THICKEN skin that has been thinned from steroid use. I had found a bit of hope. Over the next few weeks, coincidentally, I started to see some thickening of my skin! I can confidently say, at this time, that the elidel is definitely working to bring my skin back to normal. The skin texture is slowly starting to return to normal. My skin is beginning to regain that full, supple look that it had lost. The redness is fading, as well as the oiliness. For these reasons, at least in my case, I firmly believe ELIDEL is the key.

I do recognize though that full healing will still take a very long time. In my case, I absolutely destroyed my skin by using this harsh physical exfoliant. If you did not do this, then I believe you will likely be able to fully heal much faster. But you must determine if thinned skin is the source of the problem. If it is, then Elidel might be the answer for you.

Ive still got a long way to go, but I have some hope now. I hope this post can give you some hope as well. If my skin can get better, given the crazy shit I put it through, then yours can too.

Stay positive and message me with any questions.

I really believe that in my case my skin had become super thin and that its still missing some layers cause of the sunburns.

So i agree about thickening our skin, but i don't know how!

Also i am not sure but i think the skin in my face (where i have the problem)does not absorve creams. For example i use a cream with alkanna for sunburns and its color is red, but i put the cream in my neck its red color is not obvious at all! But when i put the cream in my face it colors my face so much like i paint my skin. I have also observe it with oils i use if i put them everywhere else except my face my skin look white but if put them in my face my face looks soooored.

My face is already super red after this retidoid damagered in compare with my totally white skin in my whole body, but i don't understand why if i put something in my face it become so much more red and if i put the same think in my neck or body this effect does not exist and my skin looks white.

Hey guys! Just checking in with another update.

Skin is really starting to look good. I started using the TOTAL CERAMIDE cream from Near Skin and its really helping with texture. I can see that my skin is really starting to regain that normal, plump texture. It must be from a combination of the Elidel and ceramide cream. I definitely would recommend a ceramide cream to anyone who is having barrier issues. There is still lingering redness, but its slowly fading.

I know I have had quite a winding roadto this place, graciously pointed out by a previous poster. But I finally feel like full recovery is definitely possible. The orange peel texture can be resolved, but it can possibly take years. Definitely give a ceramide cream a try, and have hope! If I can recover, given how wrecked my skin was, you can too!!!

2 people have mentioned it and your solution to OP photos. Maybe not others situation is low dose accutane.

Maybe like 20mg/ day for 3 months. 20mg every other day for 3 months after and then tapering down to see how your sebaceous glands do. You could do like 40 - 60mg a week for a while/ years as maintenance if needed and drink alcohol non taking days.

Your pore structure isn't even bad. You just need the sebum out which accutane would guarantee to do and close the pores.

It's all connected - rosacea, atopic dermatitis, sebaceous filaments, seb derm.

You produce too much oil. You need to fix that systematically.

This is the quickest solution.

Heck I wish I had some of the texture you guys have. Mine is way beyond worse than orange peel, it actually looks like deep pitted acne scars. I may need some lasers to fix it. If I were yall, I would stay away from retinol, accutane, and exfoliation. Look into getting a prescription barrier emulsion cream from yourderm. Like epiceram or Ceramax. Its expensive like $400 but you can get a coupon and it would be like $70. As for me, I may need to get some more lasers for my pitted scars. I got some 3 years ago and it helped a little. I should have continued with it.

But I advise everyone here to look i to Dry fasting. Its pretty magical. Many people have claimed it helped there body heal. I actually tried water fasting for 2 years now and recently got into dry fasting. In one try it helped heal the chronic constipation I been having for the last 3 years. Its pretty affective. But if you arent into that kinda stuff than thats ok. But I really like it and will do it again soon. Even if it doesnt help my face, it has helped my stomach issues.
