I see, those are some great ways of using it. Based on that I'll try and see what works for me. Thanks again for the help, I think I'm set now and I will order the ingredients soon. Can't wait!
Yeah, I really don't enjoy drinking a cup of green tea (well, except for Matcha lattes, but that can get pretty expensive), so I am finding ways to sneak green tea into my diet with this concentrated version. Looking forward to hearing your about results!
I have sea salt that is white and big in size. The top has a grinder if I want it smaller, I assume.
Should I grind the salt before I add it to the mixture? Or can I just use it in its big crystallized form?
Pikachu, i'm always hesitant about using a salt that is pure white in color. The pure salts that i've seen (in other words the ones that haven't been bleached and refined) have all been dirty looking or pink. Himalayan is pinkish and celtic is grayish. And Real salt is dirty looking. So before you add the white sea salt that came with the grinder, i'd wait and purchase a quality brand like celtic, dead sea salt, or himalayan. Or Real salt. And no it doesn't have to be ground up very fine, because it will dissolve really well in the hot water. Do you have a whole foods type store near you?
Thank you for responding so quickly ofg!
I do have a whole foods store, so after reading your post, I quickly went out and bought celtic sea salt. I just cooked up the mixture and it's cooling as we speak. I'm super excited to try it before my shower tonight.
I'll try and keep you updated! ^^ It smells fantastic, by the way. Thank you for telling everyone about this. I appreciate it, for sure.
I did apply after as well. C: I left it on all night as I slept, and it felt really cooling.
My face is so soft this morning and my blemishes are MUCH smaller and are less red in color.
This is so exciting! I can't wait to see the long term benefits as I use it more.
I can't thank you enough!

Hi Ginger. C:
What I did was take Bigelow Green Tea (It comes in bags and normally packs of 20). I boiled that with the salt and let it cool for a few hours. I then applied it with cotton balls (I think I'll use my fingers though, because I have the crappy cotton balls). I let that sit for a few minutes, and took a shower. When I came out I reapplied it with the cotton balls and let it just sit the whole night through.
I hope that cleared up your question. :3

I had the crappy so-called cotton balls at first too, then picked up some flat, round, real cotton pads and like them better. Did your tea have mint in it? Ofg uses Bigelow green tea with mint and it occurred to me that mint is often used in acne remedies, so I bought some fresh mint leaves and put a couple into my latest batch.
Why are you putting the toner on before your shower? Just curious...
Keep us posted on your experience. Glad to hear you've had good results so far!

So the cotton pads work better? I was thinking of stopping by the store and picking some up since ofg uses them, and you say they're nice too. They're pretty inexpensive also, if I'm correct.
Mine didn't have mint in it, but I think for my next batch I might try that. How did it work in the toner you made? Thinking about it now, you're right. Mint is a common ingredient found in acne treatments and such, so I'm not sure why I picked the plain tea up.
I put the toner on a few minutes before the shower because I feel it helps wipe off any extra dirt I might have on my face. I know the shower water should be enough, but when I apply it on afterwards I want to make sure I have the cleanest face to apply it to. That way, the toner can get in my pores better and really do its magic.
I hope that makes sense, haha. 😛
Thank you very much! ^^ In a week's time I'll see how my skin is looking compared to before and I might post up some pictures as a 'before and after'. I'm super happy it's having results for me as well. I know it's bad, but I keep feeling my cheek because it's so soft. Haha.
Is it working for you, also?
:catdance:

Well, the cotton pads enable you to use both sides, so there's just lots more area to utilize than with a ball and it is softer. Sometimes I don't use the pads and just splash it on with my fingers.
My son and I are both using the toner. He has very active acne and when he does use it I see an improvement, but he is not great at keeping up a routine so we are not seeing the full benefits...sigh. I used to have bad acne and am using it to help my skin tone and definitely see an improvement - there is an elasticity, softness and more even skin tone. I have also noticed that blackheads are loosening. I like it a lot.
Hey gingergirl,
Has your son made any strides in his diet yet? I know it would be pretty hard to convince a teenager to drastically alter his diet, so I can definitely sympathize with that. It's just that he really needs to be addressing it if he ultimately wants clear skin
I have too much tea that I know what to do with, so I decided to give this a try tonight. If it works as well as it has been reviewed, this is a very cheap alternative. I used a blend of about 75% chopped green tea from standard tea bags and 25% loose-leaf green tea, Jasmine flowers and pear. I also added some 100% natural blackcurrant juice for antioxidants and just a touch of honey, perhaps a half a tea spoon and of course the salt, I used rock salt I think it's a bit coarser than sea salt, I sieved the chunks out though. The only difference in method is that I steeped it for about half an hour instead. I'll have to report what the results are.
I'm not quite sure, what is the benefit of the salt? To draw oils out? I have a feeling it is going to really dry out my skin. Is there a natural way to moisturize?
Also, has anyone thought of making a mask or something with the leftover tea leaves?

ofg,
I definitely think there is an improvement. Last night we had baked fresh caught salmon with broccoli and mushrooms sauteed in garlic and steamed corn. For lunch he had an awesome kale and spinach salad (carrots, cucumber, sunflower seeds, celery too) with a homemade balsamic vinegar/olive oil.green tea dressing. Every day is not quite like yesterday, and there is the occassional bag of chips, soda or dessert. But overall, he is a decent eater. It's all about what I bring home from the grocery store. He takes a good supplement too and needs little reminding to take it - it is Rainbow Light Active Teen formula. It is food based and has probiotics and a blend of herbs that are supposed to help stabilize hormones. Thanks for asking!

I'll bet a mask would be beneficial.
I was wondering about adding thyme to my green tea mixture because of studies showing it is effective against acne. You just never know how ingredients interact with each other so I've just kept it simple so far, although I am upgrading to organic leaves.
With the added honey and juice, I take it you are not planning on keeping it on all day and night? I keep mine on all the time and even apply it a few extra times throughout the day when I am home.
Keep us posted on your results!

Hi plutonic,
Regarding the honey, I hope you are truly adding just a touch. I don't add any to the toner because i have tried it and it left my skin a bit sticky feeling. But maybe you can get away with a tiny bit.
Also in the right amount, sea salt enhances skin hydration, reduces skin roughness, redness, and inflammation. And helps with overall skin barrier function. I don't add a whole lot to the toner because i don't want to overdo it. And depending on the person, maybe even less salt than I recommend should be added to the toner. This is the ratio that has worked for me, but I'd suggest before omitting sea salt altogether, maybe decrease how much you add in each batch
And once again, make sure it is a good quality salt like Himalayan, Celtic sea salt, Dead sea salt, Real salt, etc. You don't want the cheap white kind you find at the grocery store, because it has been refined and bleached, removing all the valuable trace minerals

Ah, I hope then that he can keep up with the routine of using this. It isn't very difficult or time consuming, which is why I like it. I'm really glad you seem to also be benefiting from the results! ^^

Two days of using it twice a day and my skin is better than it was after two weeks of BP. The redness from my nose and cheeks has disappeared, my skin colour is now completely even and not blotchy, the redness of my acne has almost disappeared and they are reducing in size, I haven't needed to moisturize at all and there have been no harsh side-effects.
This is incredible.

plutonic - Are you using anything else on your skin or just the green tea solution?
Just wanted to give a quick update.
My skin is almost 100% clear, and I'm certain it's because of this.
Before, I was using honey as a moisturizer and salicylic acid as a treatment. I stopped both and instead just used this toner. It's the only thing I put on my face.
I have just a little bit of scarring on my chin, but I added some lemon juice in the toner and I think it's gradually lightening the scars. My nose area looks much better, and the few blemishes I had on my upper cheeks are fading. My forehead is clear now, too.
I swear by the stuff. It's amazing. I can't wait to see the results in the next few days.

Great news!
How many times a day are you applying the solution?
Anyone who has researched green tea knows how effective it is at combating acne internally and externally, as well as providing a great skin tone, without the harsh side effects that arise from store bought toners/creams/serums or washes. Sea salt is equally as impressive at providing a healthy, acne free complexion.
Well...i combined the two using a high concentration of green tea and love the results. I've been acne free for a year now, but that was due to changing my diet and eliminating all topicals. But before i switched my diet, i was using green tea topically and it was the single best thing i'd ever done for my skin.
So i wanted to go back and explore it again, but this time adding sea salt to the solution.
The concoction:
1) 16-20 green tea bags of your choice. Could even be a mint green tea. I'd avoid honey green tea, in order to keep it light on the face
2) A good quality brand of sea salt. Dead sea salt or himalayan are great, but there are others. Just make sure it's a sea salt that has been dried naturally by the sun and has no processing involved or added ingredients
How to:
In a small pan, bring the tea bags to a boil with 1 and a 1/2 cups of purified water. Remove from burner and let it steep for about ten minutes
Next, stir or slosh in about a heaping 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt. This concentration has worked great for me and i have sensitive skin
Finally, pour the mixture into a lock tight container and store in the fridge
Application:
I use circular cotton pads (the good kind that don't easily fall apart) and simply dip the pad in the solution and apply. I use one for my forehead, another for my nose and upper cheeks, another for my mouth and lower cheeks, and then another for my neck area. This way the pads don't fall apart

That's it. Once or twice a day and you're set. You shouldn't use any cleanser that you couldn't eat, if that makes any sense. I don't use a cleanser at all, and you shouldn't need a moisturizer either, especially one that isn't 100% natural
When people try green tea and don't see results, it's because they take one tea bag and rub it on their face, which is not a high enough concentration. It's proven to be as and more effective at eliminating acne than benzoyl peroxide, but without the burning and long term skin damaging effects associated with BP. And a good quality sea salt alongside this provides a double whammy of acne fighting and skin healing properties
But remember, diet needs to be addressed if you want to eliminate acne completely, and there is loads of info in the nutrition section of this site. Please go check it out, because that is the first major step in clearing your acne. But this significantly helps when fighting it from the outside
I have active acne and clogged pores. Would you recommend this for that skin type? I'm gradually switching to a more natural regimen.
I have active acne and clogged pores. Would you recommend this for that skin type? I'm gradually switching to a more natural regimen.
Absolutely. As far as how effective it will be at unclogging pores...I can't say. However I do feel confident in saying that trying this can only help your acne. It's very powerful, yet very mild at the same time. If that makes any sense...
If there is a natural ingredient that you are aware of that seems like it would help with clogged pores, I think you should feel free to add it to this concoction. This is really just a simple base. Sometimes simpler is better, but that doesn't mean you have to restrict it to just these two ingredients. I'm finding good enough results using the tea and sea salt, but I don't think you should put a limit on how creative you can get with a homemade toner like this
Some things you have to be careful with, as far as not adding too much of the ingredient so as to make it too harsh for skin, but there is alot of info on most things you can use in a toner, so i'd say just make sure to research what you are adding and roughly how much to add

Twice a day! 🙂
I love how it's light and I can't tell it's there - and it doesn't look like it's there either.
Also, I went out and bought the green tea with mint in it today. Excited to try that out. 😀
