I'm no expert here but I think it would be too drying. Maybe you should try tea tree oil :/

Well...I think I have this! barbiegirl8182, did you find out what those bumps are?? Your skin looks EXACTLY like mine. I'm desperate to get rid of those..

 Hello everyone! I was wanting to say thanks for this topic! Today I have went to the derm for the first time! I am 20..... by the way! I have found out I have this Pityrosporum folliculitis this morning! I am happy that I have finally found out the truth, and now I am really happy that I now how to "heal". I was just wanted to write here what I am experiencing and I have had experiened with this fungus.

When I started to notice something was wrong my face little by little had tiny, flesh colored bumps showing up. This was three months ago, and durring that time I was really stressed out. I ate alot of carbs all the time, and I would over worked my body. In little time I found my face with these bumps everywhere! I had also acne like breakouts. If you read my past posts it explains that better. My face was really red, and itching bad also! I thought I had acne! Seriously! I think I was washing my face 2-3 times a day durring that period. :injured: I never had any money so I decided to wash my face with only water, and start an healthy lifestyle. Acne like breakout got really better, but...... the tiny patches of bumps that I had seem like they where going away.... until 2 weeks ago. 2 weeks ago  , these small flesh colored bumps showed up everywhere! My face like allways itched badly! When I passed my hands on my skin it felt/feels like sand paper. I started to use a PH 4,5 acid soap on my face without mosturizer. That made my skin dry up really bad, but even if it is dry it looks oily! I know it is terrible! I do not have any pustles, and stuff like that anymore. I can not take it anymore. The itching is terrible! Oh yeah another thing ever sience this thing started I have dandruff! Oh yes..

I will let everyone know how its going!!

:D I am here to give updates everyone! My PF is allmost 90% clear! Yay! It was a long fight ,but I consider it allmost done :box: ! Now when I go around it looks like I have make up on even if I have not wore the stuff for 2 months! The only thing that is noticeable is one red active papule, and a few old fadded red spots! I can not wait to wear make up again! I have to admit I am pretty scared that the make up might bother my skin so I am going to call my derm first! Plus I need to get my bangs cut and I hope that will not cause me any problems, but I love bangs so much! :catdance: I saw huge improvements after the first week, but because of the meds killing off the fungus I was going through a sweet crave. When I was at the 2nd week my cravings for sweets died down. I controlled a little bit of carb, and sugar intake that second week I totally seen a huge improvements! 3 days ago I started to take probiotics. I usually eat yogurt every day, but then I found a site that talked about probiotics. So I decided to buy Bio K Plus which is working out really well. It makes me feel healthier even after so little days. :boogie:

Is there anyone out there that is NOW suffering PF? Just want to know what they are doing to heal it?

I am still so paranoid that my PF will come back! This morning my period came, and I ate tons of sugary things because I am in so much pain! I just feel like that it is going to come back.... I am so paranoid!

.....I am sorry I know I am crazy.... I had to write this to make me feel better.

I love talking to myself! :shifty:

I'm so glad I read this! I've had these tiny clusters of bumps in random places on my face for about a year now (mostly on my forehead). I thought they were whiteheads and I've tried exfoliating, using SA products, and absolutely nothing works! They itch quite often, and drive me nuts. When I wash my face at the end of the day sometimes they flake or fall off, but then they're back the very next day! I also have very oily skin and dandruff around my hairline. It sounds possible that maybe this is what I have too. And if so, It's a relief to know what it is! Thankyou for posting this! I wonder if I could just ask my family doctor about this instead of going to a derm?

Hey i've been reading your message board and everyone else to find an answer for my redness and tiny bumps. Before accutane i didn't have any facial redness just bad acne. When i started my treatment my face became red and sometimes pink. My face is red everyday only because of my training. But sometimes when my body isn't worked up it starts becoming red even when im outside. I'm still on the treatment and my skin is clear only while im on the treatment. When im through my face starts forming tiny red bumps as if a small bug bit me. This happens on my forehead, cheeks, nose, chin, and around my mouth after a few days off the treatment. Did you have this problem after any treatment? Is it Pityrosporum folliculitis because my derm doesn't know what it is, just says it must be dry or too oily.

I remember trying the shampoos a few times. Never really worked for me.

But I only used them like 2-4 days each time and never used again and tossed the bottles away.

This time, I kept the bottles, I might retry this.

I know that when I used on my face, it gets really dry. But the thing is, my face is always flaky and dry. I can just put water on it, and it'll feel tight and if I eat anything, it'll really show. Basically when I open mouth.

But, I'll try this on my chest. It's not bad, but I see some bumps. Actually they're dying down now. But everytime I shower, that are gets all red.

My face does that too, gets all red and then goes back down to normal.

I remember reading this thread a few years ago and using those shampoos. lol.

So later, after I have like 2 days off of class, I'll try it. I'll only do 5 minutes and only do it like 1-2x on my face. I know it wont work with my flaking, but maybe it could help my jawline areas. That annoys the hell out of me.

I don't know that those are fungus or acne. I have some small bumps on my forehead with white tips. Whenever I squeezed them white pus comes out. Can anybody suggest me something for this?

I'm thinking what also might be usedful for us with this problem is a candida cleanse, since that gets rid of yeast from the inside.

I think you're right! Let's do some research..

Hi, is this what you are all referring to? im a 29 yr old female and I've been battling with acne all my life. I am currently on Accutane 3rd month and it has cleared up all my acne except for these tiny raised bumps on my skin. This is not related to acne as several dermatologists have confirmed this and obviously the accutane did not clear that up. I have had them for 2 years now. I noticed I started getting them when I was using this antibiotic cream on my face for like 6 months or so. I attached a picture to show what they look like. They started on the chin but have now spread to my cheeks. They are just tiny raised bumps. If I flatten the skin on my chin they go away. The dermatologist said the only way they would know what it is if they do a 2mm punch biopsy on my face and im really scared to do that. I attached a picture, any ideas!!!?

I read in another forum somewhere that sea salts help folliculits. I just tried it today and of course it's much too soon to tell any difference. I was told that if you have the bumps on your body to soak in a bath of sea salt and if you want to use it on your face, you use it like you're exfoiliating.

I've had folliculitis for years! For the longest time, the derm continued to diagnose me with acne when it really wasn't. It's really embarrassing that I've had it for as long as I have. I'll be 23 soon and I believe I was 16 or 17 when my teenaged acne cleared and in return developed follicultis. I've never had such problems with my skin before and to be honest, sometimes I just want to give up on it. It gets expensive and not to mention ridiculously depressing when nothing works at all. Along with the rest of you, I would really like to know more successful treatments.

In the past, I've tried so many different gels, creams, and cleansers. The ones that worked the best for me was a cleanser called Ovace (the only downside was that there is not a lot in the bottle so it runs out fast) and a cream called cicloporix (sp?). After a couple weeks using those two simple steps morning and night, it seriously cleared me 95%. I had such awesome, nice skin with an occasional breakout here and there. But now that health insurance is super pricey, I've been having to resort to more holistic and over-the-counter methods.

As of now, I'm using a gentle cleanser by Boscia (love it, but expensive and probably won't buy again, haha) and an antifungal gel that I bought from wal-mart for like $5. It's not much but it's keeping most of the bumps at bay but not to where I would like them to be--GONE--ALL GONE. And like I mentioned earlier, I'm trying out the sea salts. One other thing. I've been doing quite a heavy bit of research about folliculits, yeast, and bacteria. I'm really trying to cut back on my carbs and sugars since fungus thrives on it. (It's really difficult though, haha!) And I'm also trying to get myself into a regular workout routine. Because apple cider vinegar helps the metabolism digest sugars and fats quicker, I've been taking two apple cider vinegar supplements during my morning breakfast and supper (sounds like a lot but that's what the bottle says to do). I read in another thread on the .org saying that extra zinc and fish oils help so I've been consuming more fish in my meals and eventually I'm going to buy the supplements. Fish oil is quite expensive, I've noticed. I do have extra zinc pills that I take along with my multivitamin. I just hope I'm not over doing it. The fat soluble vitamins like A are the ones you really have to be concerned with.

So in a nutshell, my skin COULD be much much better but I'm trying my best here. If anyone has any other tips, please don't be shy to share. :)

OH! And just a quick note, my aunt works at a derm's office. She isn't a derm herself but she gets tips for me from the nurse and I was told to use Nizoral shampoo at night but the key is to NOT wash it off. It worked for me for a while so I cut back on it because it was really drying but then the bumps returned so I tried it last week and it completely demolished my face. It made me so flaky I couldn't wear any make up. If you have tough skin, give it a go, heh...But I am also concerned about really taking care of my skin and not putting it through agony. Everyone knows dry skin is just years away from wrinkles. And nobody wants that in their late twenties. So, I would like some alternative solutions that is less damaging in the long run...

Thanks for reading my book, fellas!

So I picked up my Nizoral today. I plan on of course, using it in the shower for my forehead (only place I see the PF), but do I wash with my Acne.org Cleanser with the rest of my face after I leave the Nizoral on my forehead for a few mins? And also at night which of the two should I wash with? Thanks!

I have had problems with these small bumps. I have been on a a prescription retin a treatment for 8 months now and while my active acne is much better I still had lots of these small flesh coloured bumps. I washed my face with a weak solution of 2% Ketoconazole Shampoo 2 days ago and left the lather on for a couple of minutes to sink in. I then rinsed well and went to be not putting anything else on my skin. Already after one treatment my skin looks a lot smoother and many of the bumps are gone or much smaller. I am going to do the same thing tonight and see how it goes. I really hope this get's rid of them as I really hated those bumps as they made my skin look so bad!

I think ketoconazole reduces sebum due to an anti-androgen effect as well as being an anti-fungal. I had noticed in the past that my skin does seem to get better if I lay off sugar which makes sense if this turns out to be a fungal thing. I'll use it every 2 days for a week and then cut it down and maybe use just once a week. I'm also going to check out the anti yeast diet.

Hey everyone, i hope someone with some experience can answer this question for me, first let me say that i definately suffer from some degree of PF, following the advice of this thread i began using ketzoconale 1% shampoo about a week ago and guess what, cleared my chest and back up 90% already after just one week.

However success with this treatment hasn't resulted in any improvement to my forehead which seems to be a milder non inflamed PF small uninflammed uniform size bumps with no visible pore or comedo.

Question do you think an oral treatment of ketzoconale will help this situation?

please answer especially if youve had experience with this oral treatment

Has anyone had any luck w/ diet?

I had this problem a year and a 1/2 ago (along w/ quite a few yeast infections) and I asked my derm and he said no! So I tried accutane, but the second I stopped taking it, came right back. So, I'm wondering if using probiotics or changing my diet I could treat it myself. Work for anyone?

I have been on probiotics for about a month and a half now and also a crap load of Vitamins that are meant to be good for your body and especially your skin. I found that these have not helped. I admit I tried to do the all natural healthy diet but failed after two weeks. The reason I gave up was because I found my skin clearing after just one week but once two weeks hit, all went done hill and I ran to the chinese take out shop. lol. I have been using Nizoral 2% for the past three days now and I have found a huge improvement so far. I don't want to jinx myself but I'm pretty happy right now. Hope this continues.

Hiya,

Im wondering whether this may be what i have, although i have been to the doctors a while back and he told m it was a form of acne and the hair follicles were infected.Ive been on 2 different types of antibiotics but thy havent worked.

Its mainly on my forehead and when it first started it was really itchy. They are tiny flesh coloured bumps with a few that become inflamed, they seem to come and go.Lastnight they werent too bad and today they have flared up.It doesn't help that i have 2 horses to ride and so obviously have to wear a hat quite a bit. I do wear a bandaner underneath to wick away the sweat, but other than that not alot i can do :(

DaisyMai,

It does sound like it's what you might have. Even if you can't stop wearing a sweaty helmet, putting Nizoral into your regimen might hugely improve it. Just make sure you let it sit on the affected area for 3-5 minutes before you rinse.

Here's a picture of folliculitis on the forehead:
